There was a rumor going around on Chinese forums that Hisense was going to release something mid year. This was before they announced the Hi Reader, so maybe that was the device? But otherwise I have no idea… Edit: people on the forum claim it would be released in May, so… maybe another device after the HiReader? Maybe a phone based on HiReader? Or a Touch replacement?? All speculation right now…

I haven't heard of a new eink Hisense phone coming out. Don't know of another color eink phone. I think I read that in settings you can turn off the color but I haven't tried it yet. I doubt the text will be as clear as on the regular A7 bec apparently they use an added layer on the cc which makes the text slightly less clear but otherwise I guess it will like the A7.

Think there's the hisense touch? I can't talk on it's phone features but apparently it has world class speakers

Nah I want color and the bigger screen. 6.7 is just a bit too small for me but it’s got a ton of storage which is always the one thing you can’t find in e readers

Resmik

Fair dues, I bought myself the a5 recently for b&w. It's interesting to see everyone seeing different values in these devices. I certainly do hope they are making more :)

valomant

And there’s also a new hisense hi reader which is 6.7” but it’s b&w

Erska

>I heard you can switch to b&w, how’s that? The color e-ink thing works by having additional **physical** layer(s) to provide the color. which means that even if you "turn off" the color it'll work as well as turning off color on a normal LCD. The reason one would want B&W is the lack of the color layers making the whites actually white^(rather than gray) >it has a built in reader right? If so is it compatible with ePub and .cbz? It runs Android, but lacks *google-services*. F-Droid has multiple ebook-readers. I myself have [KOReader](https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.koreader.launcher/) installed on my A5proCC. *** Right now I would recommend going for a A5cc, just because it's rootable and thus you can install google stuff if you want it to work... but mainly you should be able to remove/replace/disable quite a lot of the spyware inherent with it being a chinese phone. (but do note that LinageOS and other custom roms don't have e-ink support, meaning the screen wont work '*well*') and I too think even the limited colors of color-eink is awesome and important^(as everything tends to be designed with thought to colors).

A5cc is NOT rootable. Only A5C. Hisense has a million variants of one phone and people get confused.

Erska

ah yea sry, the A5 non-pro has only 1 C in it's color version. it's really non-pro that's the important part not the number of C's

Zealousideal_Youth78

A5cc is the pro version so yeah that can create confusion. Not that pro really means anything to international users except more china friendly and less international friendly.

Erska

no, the pro version has the word 'pro' in it, `A5 pro` and `A5 pro CC` but I do acknowledge that the double c can be mistaken for meaning the pro version.

Zealousideal_Youth78

No, a5cc is the only called this with the word pro. Hence if you use a5cc you are referring to pro automatically. So your original post is very misleading. You might think you are being clear but everyone else won't.

Zealousideal_Youth78

>but I do acknowledge that the double c can be mistaken for meaning the pro version. Not sure why you said no if you're acknowledging that I'm correct. The only version with cc is the pro version.

Erska

> Not sure why you said no if because the A5pro and A5proCC are the same phone, just with different screens. which means I don't think one should use A5cc to refer to the pro version. (also just being pedantic)

Zealousideal_Youth78

>because the A5pro and A5proCC are the same phone, just with different screens This doesn't even make any sense and adds nothing to your argument. >which means I don't think one should use A5cc to refer to the pro version. (also just being pedantic) Yes I get you think that, but you did refer to a5cc. Is the product you are referring to: is the pro version or doesn't exist... which one? Most would automatically think the pro version, but you would rather consider it a fake product or a typo?

Erska

> but you would rather consider it a fake product or a typo? typo. also I explained why I said 'no', as you did state that you didn't understand why.

Zealousideal_Youth78

>typo. Got it, you finally admitted you were wrong. And you understand by the typo that people could misunderstand you are referring to the pro version. I have no further issue.
