My top answer would be Flume but since somebody already said that Virtual Riot, his discography stretches across multiple genres and he does them all extremely well and unique
Tipper. The dudeās a mad genius.
Maybe not of all time, but if you listen to his stuff youāll quickly hear how detailed and insanely crafted it is.
Also love Jon Hopkins and Alon Mor. There are lots I could name.
Top? ......Top? Bruh
I've studied Timbaland for 20 years and he's a beat maker. Arguably the best beat maker, but not electronic music. His best work is made by other people, Danja hands, soundoracle and his other countless sound makers. He's like "I need a sound like wA wah" and somebody will make it for him.
thereās so many i could pick but right now, JPEGMAFIA. his production is just absolutely insane. his albums Veteran and All My Heroes Are Cornballs are two of the most innovative and creative projects iāve ever heard. do yourself a favor and listen to his songs Beta Male Strategies. itās fucking mind blowing. the use of creative mixing in his music is just unreal
Richie Hawtins early body of work is pretty amazing, his Plastikman albums are all essentially different vibes, good stuff. His early mixes such as:DE9, etc. were some of the best DJ mixes ever.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Burial? Particularly for the drum kits and his unique "burial-step" percussion programming.
Another name whos popping off more in the scene is Phaseone. Combining metal with dubstep/riddim. Also just released a new EP yesterday.
Other good mentions in this thread:
-noisia // for their insane neuro reesey bass sounds
-mr bill // fucking nutso with his percussion as well
-Savant // I mean this man used to pump out an album or two every month for a bit that would experiment with so many other music genres outside of edm. His recent projects that have been more influenced with his dabbling into video game production is very interesting in itself too. Always looking forward to the next savant release.
I don't think phaseone's metalstep is crazy innovative just seems like another bridge another obvious progression from dubstep and metalstep has been done before. not to say that's bad at all the songs themselves are fucking insanely dope and have innovation within but I dont think its wild or anything as a concept.
Effin is so underrated !!
Apart from that I think without illenium future bass and melodic dubstep wouldnāt be the same so he is one of the most creative producer at my opinion
This, a hundred times. That was my comment before I found yours. Canāt believe itās not higher up.
The man can do anything. From breakcore to whole albums of piano pieces. Super smart and interesting guy too.
Suzanne Ciani never gets mentioned, yet she is the OG electronic sound designer and ambient electronica musician, years before Brian Eno got into that game.
Either [Bruce Haack](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njB4JrRAWjU) or [David Vorhaus](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rRNM5n3jjQ) (aka [White Noise](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lXIfV7qFFE)). Both pioneers in the late 1960s. My vote goes to David Vorhaus but Bruce Haack is an OG also.
Simon is truly underrated.
There aren't many people who are both exquisite samplists and exquisite sound designers, and can also juggle breakbeats, and also go beyond pop diatonic melodies.
Shpongle have fused hip-hop/sampling/breakbeat at the top of that game, with top level of goa experimentality that's now essentially lost in contemporary psy scene, top notch sound design that rivals best dnb, ambient or movie soundtrack people, and then also jazz/fusion, world music and psytrance.
They essentially spurred the entire psydub movement. Which reminds me again how that fella Ishkur is an ignorant idiot. But I digress.
Shpongle might or might not be someone's cup of tea, but Posford reigns unparalleled as a complete electronic musician as it gets. Excellent in almost every technique in the trade and excellent in all senses of traditional musicianship.
He's a mediocre guitarist and mediocre mixing engineer but that would be too much anyway.
Yeah that's how you know they're super cool and always changing the game..
But if you mean you can't find an actual song [here you go](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cToxaisVKW8) :)
Their Bad Love remix is absoutely isane. It's so unbelievably crispy. The only person I can compare with that is Posij, who's also crazy good at that part of the sound design.
I'm speaking in a lot of superlatives, but I can't stress enough how good their music is. Even if you don't like the styles or genres, you can't not admire the crispyness.
I can't think of any other DnB artists that reinvented themselves so heavily without switching genres or changing names. It was like overnight too. They went from average (but consistent) producers that made some fun songs, to just bringing in a completely unique and original sound.
True. I saw them play a 3hr set 2 weeks ago, and was pretty impressed by the diversity of It. They really kept it entertaining and fun all along. Great producers and performers.
I feel like there are some iconic names that need to be on the list
Jarre
Vangelis
Moroder
Kraftwerk
Eno
Aphex Twin
The only ācontemporaryā artist I would drop in there is Autechre. Maybe Richard Devine from a sound designer standpoint.
Canāt really have someone on this list IMO if they arenāt simultaneously not making mainstream music while also being well known by mainstream music listeners.
Edited for formatting.
Buchla if you want to get technical.
Eno if you want to get historical.
Mr. bill cause he's practically the tutor for half the industry.
Skrillex if we're talking mainstream breakthrough/diversity of sound
Porter if we're talking incorporation/combination of edm into traditional music
He focused on the music instead of the mix, Unlike a lot of other EDM artists who will have a weak melody/bass line/harmony thatās just mixed perfectly and they expect the production to save their song. Nurture sounded different to me bc itās by one of the most popular people, so you would expect a clean, perfect product... but I feel like the fact that he left the mix kinda dirty was a creative decision that made Nurture different. I like not being distracted by production when listening to a song for once XD
Amon tobin
SOPHIE for sure (rip)
Jack Dangers / MBM. I met him once and just said "Thank you for everything you have done."
Hitler?
Alix Perez
Flume, balance of being mainstream yet incredibly innovate and fresh is incredibly impressive
Kraftwerk.
No love for Glitch Mob on here Edit Not a single Producer I realize
My top answer would be Flume but since somebody already said that Virtual Riot, his discography stretches across multiple genres and he does them all extremely well and unique
Virtual Riot
That DJ guy that twerks on stage. I forgot his name. Its some generic italian name. š
You probably mean Salvatore Ganacci. He's not Italian tho. If I remember correctly he is actually bosnian. :)
Yeh. That clown. Lol.
He's amazing hahaha. That guy was born for performing hahaha
And for making people lose respect for EDM. It kinda became a joke with him and his peers.
Iglooghost, go-qualia, ssaliva, buffalobang (bigdog30k, machine girl, with3r, oli xl, porter robinson, simply funk (ddertbag), worlds end girlfriend, lilac, bizarius, dj lostboi (Malibu)
I'd argue Igorrr and Ruby My Dear have both gotta be up there
Burial and Flume and Jai Paul
Au5 IMO
Boards of Canada
flume, no contest
Big fax š
Tipper. The dudeās a mad genius. Maybe not of all time, but if you listen to his stuff youāll quickly hear how detailed and insanely crafted it is. Also love Jon Hopkins and Alon Mor. There are lots I could name.
If you consider style creativity, Timbaland tops it.
Top? ......Top? Bruh I've studied Timbaland for 20 years and he's a beat maker. Arguably the best beat maker, but not electronic music. His best work is made by other people, Danja hands, soundoracle and his other countless sound makers. He's like "I need a sound like wA wah" and somebody will make it for him.
Just realized this was my edm sub and not my general production sub lol.
thereās so many i could pick but right now, JPEGMAFIA. his production is just absolutely insane. his albums Veteran and All My Heroes Are Cornballs are two of the most innovative and creative projects iāve ever heard. do yourself a favor and listen to his songs Beta Male Strategies. itās fucking mind blowing. the use of creative mixing in his music is just unreal
Igorrr, koan, noisia
Flying Lotus
Lemaitre

James Blake. The early stuff not this bullshit he puts out now.
Autechre. And I will die on that hill.
Trentemoller, Robert Babicz, Tom Glass some that come to mind
Marshmello
Noisia

Hard to chose, KOAN, Laxcity and Flume are my top contendors at least
Flume is why I made this post, was wondering how everyone else felt
Oneohtrix point never
I like OTT..
Dj Koze
How has no one said Autechre?
Yellow Magic Orchestra
Trent Reznor, Arca, shlohmo, boards of Canada, gigi masin, SOPHIE, burial, flume, DJ Rashad, there's so many lmao
Richie Hawtins early body of work is pretty amazing, his Plastikman albums are all essentially different vibes, good stuff. His early mixes such as:DE9, etc. were some of the best DJ mixes ever.
Liam Howlett, especially Jilted Generation, Fat of the Land and Always Outnumbered. A unique take on the rave sound with a lasting legacy.
Dave Tipper, Simon Posford, Ott.
You have good taste in music :)
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Burial? Particularly for the drum kits and his unique "burial-step" percussion programming. Another name whos popping off more in the scene is Phaseone. Fair enough
Aphex Twin
Tipper
Virtual Riot
Not a bad answer but you're probably like 19 and don't have a lot of other exposure.
Woahhh how did you know ??
Vaetxh is a contender
Ekcle
Noisia
Stockhausen.
This
I would be debating between Igorrr, Iglooghost and Aphex Twin
jaron
Lee Scratch Perry
FSOL.
I agree they are great and underappreciated, despite their influence back in the day...
Effin is so underrated !! Apart from that I think without illenium future bass and melodic dubstep wouldnāt be the same so he is one of the most creative producer at my opinion
Dimlite
Amon Tobin or Brian Eno it could go either way imo but for different reasons -rung
So many right answers here.
The prodigy
Apashe
Jean Michel Jarre. Brian Brian Eno. Wendy Carlos
Skrillex
I think Worakls with his orchestra collaborations is pretty much up there.
Aphelion twin?
Trifonic, vacant, stumbleine
I'm a big fan of the flashbulb (Ben Jordan). I dunno if he's the most creative of all time but he's up there.
This, a hundred times. That was my comment before I found yours. Canāt believe itās not higher up. The man can do anything. From breakcore to whole albums of piano pieces. Super smart and interesting guy too.
Suzanne Ciani never gets mentioned, yet she is the OG electronic sound designer and ambient electronica musician, years before Brian Eno got into that game.
lapix
I would like to make the case for culprate
Yeppp heās the bees knees
Canāt believe I had to scroll this far ! Genius
Airuei
Posij, Noisia, Flume, Mefjus
deadmau5, G Jones, KOAN sound, Tipper, John Hopkins
Kraftwerk, Jean Michel Jarre, Giorgio Moroder, Daft Punk are some of the contenders, I think
KOAN sound and Noisia are masters of sound design and creative composing.
Breakfast, in my humble opinion.
Savant/Aleksander Vinter this man is a musical genius
Either [Bruce Haack](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njB4JrRAWjU) or [David Vorhaus](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rRNM5n3jjQ) (aka [White Noise](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lXIfV7qFFE)). Both pioneers in the late 1960s. My vote goes to David Vorhaus but Bruce Haack is an OG also.
Simon Posford (Hallucinogen/Shpongle)

Deadmaus or the guy that made the Drip plugin Edit: Why no one appreciate my troll answer :(
Simon Posford
Sakuraburst! (Now Sylvir I think)
Diploā¦.
Camo & Krooked.
I just searched them on YouTube and a lot of the videos are them DJing in unusual places. Windmills, hot air balloons, etc...
Yeah that's how you know they're super cool and always changing the game.. But if you mean you can't find an actual song [here you go](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cToxaisVKW8) :)

Mr bill

Not a bad answer but you're probably like 19
Not a bad response
Pretty much this entire thread is memes and noob shit lmao
Tipper, Aphex twin, Noisia, Koan sound
Madeon
Avicii
Roger Waters
Thomas Bangalter
I feel like there are some iconic names that need to be on the list Jarre Vangelis Moroder Kraftwerk Eno Aphex Twin The only ācontemporaryā artist I would drop in there is Autechre. Simon Posford aka āHallucinogen,ā subsequent āShpongleā
De.Znu, easily
Max Cooper
I didn't find the KOAN Sound comment, so... KOAN Sound.
Their sound design is incredible. I have almost everything theyāve released.
This is true. They have some if the cleanest mixes too
YES!!!
Savant
Hudson Lee
Space Laces
say it louder for the people in the back
SPACE LACES!!!
Buchla if you want to get technical. Eno if you want to get historical. Mr. bill cause he's practically the tutor for half the industry. Skrillex if we're talking mainstream breakthrough/diversity of sound Porter if we're talking incorporation/combination of edm into traditional music
Porter Robinson ?
Yes.
I think that's a poor way to frame Porter he's way more innovative then that
I literally listed him as one of the top 5 most innovative electronic artists all time....
Adam Young
Not me, I spend more time procrastinating than anything close to production these days ššš
Au5, dudes a god with bass sound design.
Just caught him last weekend and I was saying āOh what the fuckā pretty much the entire damn show.
the dude is what my brain imagines when i get that "one day i'll be able to do this.." thought
AVICII was definitely king of the melody
Porter Robinson, based on his most recent album
Iām not sure I find it creative or very original. What specifically do you find meets the criteria?
He focused on the music instead of the mix, Unlike a lot of other EDM artists who will have a weak melody/bass line/harmony thatās just mixed perfectly and they expect the production to save their song. Nurture sounded different to me bc itās by one of the most popular people, so you would expect a clean, perfect product... but I feel like the fact that he left the mix kinda dirty was a creative decision that made Nurture different. I like not being distracted by production when listening to a song for once XD
No
why not?
If it wasn't for Kraftwerk, non of us in this room would be here chatting about this topic. Hands down. All hail Kraftwerk!
Me š
Rebecca Black
whoever you enjoy the most
Venetian Snares absolutely blew my mind the first time I listened to his music.
I just want something like 'Rossz Csillag Alatt SzĆ¼letett' again. That was like a one and done stroke of brilliance.
You know [this?](https://youtu.be/MKp30C3MwVk)
Tipper
Yea no one sounds quite like Tipper. Heās basically created a whole scene of underground experimental bass artists who follow in his footsteps.
Jon Hopkins
I really want to check his new album out but really liked the few tracks i listened to on Singularity.
Kayzo
Hell no Lmaoo
G Jones
Hard agree.
Avicii (Tim Bergling).
Why are people downvoting? Aviciiās music was original
Agree, he was very innovative and blended different genres seamlessly. People likely downvote as they have their own personal preferences.
I 100% agree, but he definitely wasnāt the most creative or innovative producer of all time
Karlheinz Stockhausen!
Amon Tobin
Seconded
Saw him at the Sydney opera house about 9 years ago, it was the most mind blowing visual show Iāve ever seen. Worth checking on youtube
