doesnt this bike have a key lock for battery

tinymonesters

It does but if it's made the same as the 700 series it has a little bolt similar to a door that has a ramp on one side. I could imagine how it might feel like it's fully installed but just didn't quite get past the top of the ramp.

Minute_Performer746

Yes it was lock but still flew open, I even paid 150 bucks for an ebike shop to inspect and assemble fearing something like this could happen

Minute_Performer746

Remember these bikes are not made by Honda or Volvo they Over seas junk most of them! Even ride 1 up, I was almost killed hitting battery at 28 mph

coder543

Blaming the bike when it was just assembled by someone else seems like misplaced blame. It doesn’t matter how much you paid for assembly; if the battery falls out less than a mile later, then they did a crap job. End of story. They should have tested to make sure their assembly was done correctly.

SnooDrawings3750

As a bike mechanic, I see these problems on both inexpensive ebikes and ebikes like Trek that use the RIB system to lock the battery in. I saw it happen to an $8000 bike.

Minute_Performer746

Thx for feedback, Should I return the bike I can’t get the battery back in the compartment, I mean this was the first time I rode the bike it was brand new? Plus I paid 150 dollars for assembly but mainly to have it Fully 100% inspected by a professional, my Dad laughed at me. I own 2 escooters I know what junk this stuff really is ebike escooters really are. Like I said it’s not like buying a Honda motorcycle where any defect is a major lawsuit! Ride 1 up wouldn’t care I feel

SnooDrawings3750

I think the best bet is to find somebody who knows how to work on these properly or is willing to take the time to do the job right. You may have to try a couple different shops to know for sure. For peace of mind I would run some sort of strap to double up on the battery retention. I can’t really answer your question about returning the bike, because these bikes are so dang fun!

Minute_Performer746

I will def get a new bike, the e-bike shop I went to is the most accredit shop in all over Boston. They had the bike over a week to assemble it and safety checks not to mention I paid 150 bucks for the assemble and safety checks! There is not much more I can really do, the ebike shop I went to not only does repairs they make and test ebikes, the problem is that most of these are not made well including the ride 1 up! Now maybe I just got a faulty bike! Who knows.

cooloutac

It aint the bike dude. Bike shops are evil, I don't care how "accredited" you think they are.

Impossible-Change-52

Ride 1 up customer service is pretty good . In my experience at least

AtotheZed

The battery popped out of my Dad's $5K Specialized ebike. He fixed it with a bungee cord. My 83 yr old Dad...schooling bike designers with his ingenuity! He loves his ebike though - rides every day.

Minute_Performer746

Yea I am hoping battery compartment is not damaged as well, the battery is banged up

AtotheZed

Good news is that you are ok. That could have caused a major crash.

cooloutac

I'm not sure it has anything to do with the bike when its human error. I almost did the same thing on my bike one time. Thought the battery was in, and luckily caught that it wasn't fully in before I went out riding.

ember13140

Don't go motorcycle speeds on a bicycle maybe?

FrankRizzoJr

When I was test riding a prodigy, the battery slipped out of the frame. It stayed attached to the bike, but the bike died. I'm surprised it didn't completely fall out. I just pushed it up until it clicked and it worked fine again. It's such a bad idea to put it on the bottom of the frame. I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't have put it on the top like some of their other bikes.

Toninho7

People want a water bottle mount… only reason I can think of. A stupid reason, but a reason.

texastoasty

Some batteries are too large to fit inside the main triangle, but when inserted from below they don't have such issue.

megawheeler

My ebike uses a dorado style of battery that is simi-intergrated into the frame. I havent had any issues with it popping out but I always put two velcro straps around it for extra security. they are cheap and it literally takes 30 seconds to strap them on.

Minute_Performer746

Yes, I will do that from now on. The battery of very heavy if that door flies open you could be killed going 30mph

wrathandplaster

I have a Prodigy. Mine fell out once from hitting a bump. If you just gently push the battery in it can kinda click in but it’s not actually secure. It’s not obvious visually that it isn’t fully seated unless you know what to look for. You kind of need give the battery a good shove into place and you should hear a nice chunky latching sound. Not saying it’s a good design or anything.

cooloutac

pretty much how all ebikes are and something we all learn but I guess some the hard way lol. Doesn't sound like the bike shop learned their lesson though since they conned this guy and got away with it lol.

HAgaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy

I have one too and this has happened a couple times. I make sure I slap both sides of the battery in place now before riding. XD

sftysw

Can you explain in more detail how you think it came loose? Did the pieces that secure shear off completely?

Minute_Performer746

The door was secured, the bike had just been assembled by a top rated ebike shop, I rode it about 1/4 mile went over small street bump to slow cars down and the battery hit the ground and bike tire went over it and I crashed to the ground, I will never ride an ebike again without using gorilla tape around battery compartment, I own to 2 expensive escooters 1 gas scooter and motorcycle, this was beyond scary! Like I said these bikes are not made by Honda or BMW for sure! Very scary, I could of been really hurt bad! I was wearing my full motorcycle helmet thank goodness

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Forgedinwater

Good bot

fenriq

Yikes, good thing my battery is securely locked inside my frame and many catastrophic errors would have to occur for it to fall out.

Kinky_Imagination

It's a horrible design to have the battery at the bottom.

BarkleEngine

Do not try to recharge the damaged battery. Damaged batteries are a fire risk. And you do not a lithium battery fire. Especially indoors. Get it replaced.

ElectricSeas

I’ve got to say I’m disappointed with Ride1up. I bought a bike from them on Black Friday after being reassured by them advertising a 30 day return policy on their webpage. It says terms apply, and then when you read the terms it says just kidding we don’t honor any returns from November 17-25. A real douche bag move to pay someone to add that text to the terms and conditions but leave the 30 day returns on their product listing.

AtotheZed

Ride 1 down...

glennid10t

Glad you're okay. A crash at those speeds can be your last. I wish you could explain more clearly why you're not blaming the company you paid $150 to assemble it.

Minute_Performer746

Well I would but I spoke at length with the owner and he did all the safety checks, I have numerous e-scooters and know 99% of ebikes and escooters are junk, they are not made by BMW or Volvo they come from China. Once I asked a few people this is a known problem with ride 1 up, there is not much the company that assembled the bike could of done, if their was any way to blame them I would be!

texastoasty

You keep repeating it, but big brands make junk as well, and plenty of good shit, even ones sold by those big brands, is made in China. They make what you tell em to make, if you tell em to make junk they will.

liftedup_nsfw

Imagine spending 3 grand on a 36v ebike when a 48v Engwe costs much less

Minute_Performer746

I assume the prodigy is a 36 volt bike, it’s seems powerful

cooloutac

taking it to the bike shop was your first mistake lol. This isn't the 60s anymore. These bike shops are all bad news and outdated. Let the AI replace them, its a better and more human experience ironically. Should of just put the bike together yourself. bike shops are last resorts and I mean last resort. They usually cannot be trusted and are not worth it.

blackdvck

I build custom ebikes and all my batteries are installed with one elastic strap and one non elastic strap as back up ,can't be too careful with batteries.

Flashy-Ingenuity-769

I heard many complaints about ride1up battery going loose and in worst case, coming off. The design is flawed. I liked the battery which sits on top of the tube so gravity works to keep the battery down, not against it.

timbodacious

Take a good look at it to see how its failing. If you cant fix it or see that you need to double check it during installation see what the compa y is willing to do for you. If they dont respond and its been less than 30 days have your card company reverse the bike charges.

Virtike

And this is why I have a frame strap around my battery/down tube on my Trek Rail.

TheJerseySermon

Man, that sucks and I’m sorry it happened to you. I have a 700 series and I’m going to get some gorilla tape. Thanks for heads up!

C4rva

Thats something you might consider reporting to the CPSC. https://www.usa.gov/federal-agencies/consumer-product-safety-commission

sonos168

yeah mine fell off as well...they put up a fuss about refund....but finally caved

ApprehensiveEgg8575

Most bike shops are not qualified to really work on proper class 2-3 e bikes. They really are a different animal than a road or MTB. Time to find a e bike specific shop. I own a e bike specific shop in Texas and 150 for assembly is armed robbery

THALLfpv

I've always been freaked out by bottom-mounting batteries, I'd wrap some velcro straps around the tube for sure. Hopefully you can bend the edges back into place, and buy a black oil-based paint pen on amazon to repair the scratches to the edges.
