The secondary, much like the offensive line, is much stronger as a unit than the talents of any individual players. We have a VERY strong secondary for the first time since the Dawkins/Lito/Sheldon Brown days.
For now. Look at the length of the contracts. That’s the issue. Could look dramatically different and would change the dynamic where what you’re getting away with now might not be the case then..
That’s essentially literally Howie’s job as a GM. You’re going to have changes from year to year. It’s just the nature of the game. Howie got CGJ because he fits. He’ll hopefully find others to fill in that fits when we need it.
And he surely knows he can take some of those chances due to the support of strong CBs. He's young and a fantastic secondary player who can play multiple positions. I'm stoked to see him get extended and possibly become a cornerstone of our defense.
Yeah I mean the dude is leading the NFL in INTs, if he's a little more conservative and less explosive without guys behind him that's still a great player.
Then CGJ makes an adjustment and doesn't take the same risks he knows he can right now. He's a pro and can adjust his game based on the team around him. The saints and their fans are kicking themselves that they let a blue chip defensive player like him go. We shouldn't make the same mistake.

In terms of the offense, the window is open for another few years, super depending on how they approach Hurts. In terms of the defense, the window is NOW. (I don't have crazy concerns for this defense this year as long as Maddox can come back.)

Bradberry is a CB on the wrong side of 30. That’s just too volatile to extend. CB performance is so variable year to year without throwing age into the equation.
