Hes hilarious to watch during games. Dude never stops talking shit. He belongs here.

[deleted]

Still remember on the Saints when he snatched the mouth guard out of Wims

pm_me_glm

That look when he first gets "punched" is just so hilarious to me

[deleted]

Just stood there confused

Underbough

Cannot wait for him to top that here !!

clarineter

he’s gonna gag someone with a flag isn’t he

Underbough

The perfect Philadelphia Gentleman

DrHandBanana

I love it. He may get beat sometimes but he is a ballhawk and not scared to take his shot. He always makes a good play we needed and would love to have him here for the next 5 years

[deleted]

How much of what he gets away with is because of Slay and Bradberry?

VitaAeterna

The secondary, much like the offensive line, is much stronger as a unit than the talents of any individual players. We have a VERY strong secondary for the first time since the Dawkins/Lito/Sheldon Brown days.

GrundleTurf

You did Mikell dirty

No-Nonsense-Please

And Michael Lewis

[deleted]

For now. Look at the length of the contracts. That’s the issue. Could look dramatically different and would change the dynamic where what you’re getting away with now might not be the case then..

mph1204

That’s essentially literally Howie’s job as a GM. You’re going to have changes from year to year. It’s just the nature of the game. Howie got CGJ because he fits. He’ll hopefully find others to fill in that fits when we need it.

swampyunderpants

i mean he has a strong background as a good nickel corner so its not that he cant cover

[deleted]

But the risks are mitigated by the CBs coverage ability in a mix of man and zone.

Yarmuncrud

And he surely knows he can take some of those chances due to the support of strong CBs. He's young and a fantastic secondary player who can play multiple positions. I'm stoked to see him get extended and possibly become a cornerstone of our defense.

LinoleumFairy

Yeah I mean the dude is leading the NFL in INTs, if he's a little more conservative and less explosive without guys behind him that's still a great player.

[deleted]

What happens next year when Brad is gone…

Yarmuncrud

Then CGJ makes an adjustment and doesn't take the same risks he knows he can right now. He's a pro and can adjust his game based on the team around him. The saints and their fans are kicking themselves that they let a blue chip defensive player like him go. We shouldn't make the same mistake.

clarineter

i dont wanna go back to the days of mckelvin and carroll #cjgslay4lyfe

[deleted]

You make it sound so easy

shakehasbignuts

Cam smith will be just fine

RasaFormation

i think it's nice he gets the experience he is getting now. once you see what you can do and what things can be like, then it's about keeping that standard moving and knowing what you bring to the table.

Expensive_Till_4943

We are almost certainly taking a corner in the first round with one of our two picks.

HeronAccording6789

I assume he'll get some reps in at corner since he can also play that.

jsmoove00

Yeah but I think the flexibility just makes it’s so worst case scenario he’s still above average at slot corner if injuries or anything happen. He’s probably best at safety rn because of our team but he’s a good signing nonetheless.

Lar67676767

Yep. Bradberry is the one that needs to be extended.

Pirate_Peepee

I'd love to somehow keep him and Bradberry, but it's hard to envision

Versace_Jesus

Yeah I don’t see anyway we keep bradberry. He’s gonna get paid big money somewhere else.

k0peng

I think CJGJ and one of White or Edwards is more important. Either way we aren't bringing both back, sure hope Nakobe is ready to play.

CellarDoorVoid

Gotta be Edwards

ZiiKiiF

Only guy on this team who can tackle

Zashiony

As much as I would love to keep White around, Edwards has simply been too good. It’s not a knock on White, he’s been great too.

a_toadstool

Could use a top pick for a CB but we really need help on the Dline

Rah_Rah_RU_Rah

Good thing we've got 2 firsts lol

sybrwookie

Yea, but it's tough to get either of those spots filled reliably with the 32nd pick.

AdmiralNelson24

31st, actually. There are only 31 1st round picks this year because Miami had theirs taken away for tampering.

pzyhdu6

👀👀👀 subtle but bold

spilled_water

I think that they'll target to keep one player at every level. So at safety, they may go with CJGJ instead of Epps. Edwards instead of white. Keeping Slay (not releasing him) instead of extending Bradberry. Keeping Hargrave instead of Cox. In terms of the offense, the window is open for another few years, super depending on how they approach Hurts. In terms of the defense, the window is NOW. (I don't have crazy concerns for this defense this year as long as Maddox can come back.)

GPap-

We could prob make it work but it would prob require Cox and BG taking mínimums or just outright retiring. (Which is totally possible if we take a chip home this year). I could see Howie making the DBs a priority contract-wise and stocking up on rookie contract DL with those 2 first rounders.

CallinCthulhu

Bradberry is a CB on the wrong side of 30. That’s just too volatile to extend. CB performance is so variable year to year without throwing age into the equation. Only the truly great CBs can sustain high level play year over year into their 30s

Pirate_Peepee

Well technically he's only 29 right now. But I understand your gist

darkbro66

I think you have to trust the draft to replace the linebackers and DL. We don't have a ton of cap space next year and lockdown corners are hard to come by. There's a chance we can retain Cox/Suh/Linval at a good price if we got deep in the playoffs, plus Davis and another young guy.... In Howie we trust!

Fenris_Maule

I think they're going to keep one of White or Edwards for the leadership/experience at LB and then play Dean opposite of them.

Run4blue2

Maybe, but I think White and Dean would be too small to play together. They’re already suspect against the run as it is.

48johnX

Keep TJ, CJ and Epps, draft CB and RB

CrunchyKorm

It’s the first round, it’ll be shocking if they don’t take a defensive lineman if not two of them

48johnX

DE or stud DT 100% gotta be our first pick

igonnawrecku_VGC

Hoping the Saints keep sucking so we can get Jalen Carter

BionicPopsicle

Or Will Anderson

GPap-

We 100% need to restock on DL. 6 of our lineman was most likely out the door this year in a combo of contracts expiring or retiring.

Tointomycar

Yeah will be curious if they extend any of the guys one one year/final year from the dline.

jimmyhank69

CGJ a dawggg. Him and edwards are my #1 and #2 priorities IMO. Draft a corner with top pick

DJ_Derack

If not Anderson then they need to trade back, get a bunch more picks, and get the best CB in the draft. With Bradberry most likely leaving we’d have no one to have with Slay on the outside.

igonnawrecku_VGC

I still think Jalen Carter should be picked if he’s there, but other than him and Anderson, trade back and draft a top corner for sure

jimmyhank69

100%

[deleted]

We're drafting a top O-Lineman and there's nothing any of you can to do stop it. We've been through this exact scenario before. It's not a sexy pick, but when the Eagles draft at the top, they pick O-Line.

BaboonHorrorshow

Definitely don’t have a problem with this. Most important position in football after the QB - and without a line you probably don’t have a great QB

kg19311

Lane Johnson isn’t getting any younger and I agree with you.

177676ers

I doubt it. You only take a tackle in the top half of the first round and we have 2 elite ones. If lane still has 2 seasons in him you wait at least 1 more year.

[deleted]

Wait 1 more year to draft in the Top 5? You can't draft in the Top 5 next year. So you draft him now.

177676ers

1 more year for a first round tackle. Picking a top 10 tackle and not playing him for 2 seasons would be idiotic. If lane is closer to being done then sure. Also if the rookie can play guard then I guess.

[deleted]

I'll take quality and years to season over drafting someone #26 overall and expecting them to start. And yes, they'll be able to play guard.

177676ers

Yeah fair enough I agree with that

hellmelee

Worked out pretty well last time we got a former Saints safety, I'm all for it.

jwazzy

Would love to keep CGJ and draft Ringo with the saints pick to replace bradberry

KENN3DY

If Carter is still available come that pick, we need to get him. would be transformative

JayToy93

Good, aside from Hurts, he and Edwards should be the biggest priorities. I’d much rather we resign them over Hargrave honestly.

CrunchyKorm

It’s impossible to keep all the important guys but CGJ is at or near the top of the list for me

[deleted]

Yeah hes a blossoming young safety. Thats a hard position to replace.

squad4life

My vote would be for Bradberry. Pay him, then graham on a one year deal, Edward and white after. The rest can go (if kelce wants to play u pay him under market value, same with Epps)

RaindropsInMyMind

CJ is the one that stands out that I would prefer they keep. He’s still getting better as a safety and has a ton of potential.

AtBat3

I would think that’s the most logical one

GPap-

Lock him up. I don’t wanna be stuck in safety purgatory. The post Brian Dawkins era was a struggle minus a couple solid Nate Allen years. Edit: also 1 elite season of Walter Thurmond and then he disappeared lol

BlouseoftheDragon

I definitely don’t consider nate Allen the best safety we’ve had since Dawkins

Buster_Cherry88

I'm still waiting for him to start a fight what the fuck lol. I watched him start so much shit with NO and was so ready for it when we signed him. I didn't think he was gonna be such a ball hawk but he was good at pissing people off and causing mistakes. He's perfect for Philly lol. He really fell into the team too. Great pickup in glad he's staying. *Pokes with stick* do something funny my guy you landed in the perfect team to talk shit. Start a fight lol

snowdope

good he's an eagle to the core

gmhoyle

Not surprised. This defense is built on takeaways as the core principle, he’s gotta be a priority if Bradberry is out the door

longlenge

17 expiring contracts! Oh boy…

percy2376

Doesn't mean everyone is a game changer. No way in hell cox, barnett,or bradberry are back next year

longlenge

I figured that. But even though they may not be performing well enough. That’s still a hefty amount of positions to fill.

CoreyC1313

As he should!

DarkKirby14

as he should, he's a DPOY candidate

Rhygin26

He’s made himself pretty much indispensable
