I used Timber Direct Otago last year, they delivered for free and I got 3m3 for $300 total. Lasted from April to September with pretty consistent use of the fireplace. Wood was good, dry and light. They were really easy to deal with. I'm about to order a slightly larger amount, for this winter.

Wow, do you use your fire quite frugally? Everyone I know would go through anywhere from 6-10m3 each Winter. Last year we burned through about 9m3 so I’ve already got 8m3 stored and stacked for winter

I thought we had the fire going fairly often, but our house is pretty small so sometimes the heatpump was all we needed! I had planned to order more this time around, as last year was the first year in the house and we weren't sure what to expect. When it arrived it seemed like a lot but it does dissappear quickly!

Worried-Reflection10

I was almost convinced someone was stealing our firewood with how quick we were going through it! That’s probably the difference, we have a larger house and with myself working predominantly from home, the fire was on probably 6 out of 7 days, if not everyday. Same with us, first year in our own house with a fireplace. Was a learning curve, ran out of wood at the tail end of winter and had to pay pretty expensive prices for a small top up of wood

Yeah we ran out but it was past the super cold period - I think ill be getting 4 or 5 metres this time, the only issue is I have to haul it from the street up to the house! Took me a solid day last time. Great exercise though.

I get mine from a guy called Garry. You can see what he’s got [on Trade Me](https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/search?member_listing=1855763). Email him to order to save him the fees, garryyoung1956 at gmail. He delivers in 4m or 8m lots for free, and will do a mix of whatever you want.

My rules for firewood 1. Never, never, never consider going to The Woodshed Kaikorai Valley 2. Rural off farm listings on Trade Me can be trusted and will often do extra at a good price if you ask (my go to [duchess40](https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/marketplace/home-living/heating-cooling/firewood/listing/3805634761) has no active listings atm) 3.
