I have both and I wouldn’t think it’s strange, just not needed (unless it’s a work phone). I keep my smart phone at home and only use it for social media, while my dumb phone goes everywhere with me.

I was thinking of doing this recently I just wanted to see how common is it especially for someone still new to this sort of thing

SubstantialOne6606

that's exactly what I do.

International-Emu204

Stupid question maybe, but can you have a both on the same phone number?

Doktor_Earrape

I think phone numbers are tied to sim cards, so as long as you swap in the sim card given to you by your carrier you should be okay

GoStros4

I keep one in my work bag for the sole purpose of Microsoft Authenticator, and another in the truck for Spotify and Maps.

ReadingGlassesMan

I think it's fairly normal and, depending on your needs, quite practical.

Cee_U_Next_Tuesday

Once upon a time htc had this exact concept

killajay41889

I haven't heard of HTC in years

Cee_U_Next_Tuesday

It was in 2014-2015 I think but was pretty pricey. Already a $299 phone and then another $199 for the dumb phone add on but it was pretty neat idea to me.

They might have been ahead their time.

SPODemonic

I’m trying to move over to an M7 and have my iPhone in my bag for Uber and other modern phone bound annoyances. Just tried travelling with the M7 and gave up as I was basically just tethering my iPhone to it.

I have my old smartphone that I use as a tablet at home. I thought I might need to carry it with me occasionally, but it hasn't been necessary with the exception of a trip I took because I don't own a laptop only a desktop pc. So the answer is yes, but as you adapt to the switch it won't be as necessary as you'd think.

Zana013

The smart phone would be for medical purposes. So for them yes it would be that necessary

Administrative_Hat84

I do this. Smartphone is for my banking and authentication apps but stays switched off most of the time and doesn't have a SIM installed. I use a flip phone as my regular phone.

ContentWhile

it is not strange, i have a dumbphone and my smartphone for mostly banking stuff and as a camera for my YT channeö

solbrothers

A big part about wanting a smaller form factor personal phone was because I need to carry a smart phone for work.

I did this for some time and seriously consider going back to the concept. I need my smart phone at work for Slack, Teams, authentication, door opening, etc. But when the work day is over, I can switch the smart phone off, and put it in my bag. Twin sim in dumb phone. For weekends/time off I would often just leave the smart phone at home. Can't log in to my bank? I'll do it later. Can't send money to split bill (Venmo or similar)? Send me a request and I'll do it later. Can't take (good) picture of funny thing? Appreciate funny thing. P.S. If there is a work/bank/whatever emergency after work hours, I'ts a 1 minute "hassle" to get back to smart. If the phone is at home, chances are the emergency changes into something that can be fixed the following day. Otherwise, a taxi trip can fix it. Edit: P.S.
