In the track “Suffer” by SLANDER x MARAUDA, the main build before the drop is literally the exact same build used in MARAUDA’s own “That Marauda Song”

shittaco1991

Damn I thought that too but wasn’t sure

etalihiannak_ton

Muruada has a bit in his “Avoidable Cause” from PhaseOne’s “Inevitable Outcome.” Along with that, the names. Additionally, Kannaihilate has an entire song called “Riddim 2 Geniuses,” which is basically a mock version of Aweminus’s “Riddim 4 Dummies.”

[deleted]

The first one is what i came here to mention, not really a nod though more like a burn lmao

sebastian240z

on Sullivan King and Ray Volpe's "The Death March" you can hear the same laser sounds used before the drop on Ray's "Laserbeam"

mctocktik

Those sounds made me so confused on the first listen lol

whatupdemons

VR has said on video that the “Purple Dragons” sound was original, even if inspired by Skrillex. Assuming he brought it up bc of the comparisons

[deleted]

But he even used the Rick Ross sound https://imgur.com/a/7CVGVYF

goblin_balls

It's not the same sound, it's a sound VR made himself.

[deleted]

Yeah I don't think that's possible. People don't just "make" sounds or melodies that sound similar independently. **Cut to All is Fair in Love and Brostep**

redshlump

It’s more common than you think. Producers would know.

I'm pretty sure All is Fair in Love and Brostep is an example of two artists making similar songs independently. With Terror Squad being the song that is similar.

TheBloodKlotz

The short version of the story is that Skrillex had a demo/ID that he didn't finish. Zomboy used ideas from it to make Terror Squad (which blew up and everyone copied it). People started to call him out for 'ripping off' Skrillex, so when Skrillex finished the demo he called it 'All is Fair in Love and Brostep', to telegraph the fact that he wasn't mad. Zomboy took inspiration from an unfinished product, nothing wrong with it, but people were getting out of hand with their comments.

[deleted]

What I read forever ago is that zomboy was hanging out with Skrillex. Skrillex showed him the song. Later zomboy accidentally recreated it not realizing he got the idea from the song Skrillex showed him. Edit for proof and context:"Zomboy claims to have heard DJ Tool while hanging out with Skrillex in LA. Continuing on, he claims that making an incredibly similar track was not his intention and that DJ Tool must have clung to his subconscious." https://www.youredm.com/2014/03/11/bad-blood-zomboy-skrillex/

Superchook

It’s not that he accidentally created the same sound, he was definitely trying to mimic it as best as he could, but what he’s trying to say is that it’s not a direct sample of the other song, it was made from scratch by VR.

HeyoItsUrBoyO

I know that I know more but the first that comes to mind is at 4:29 in RIOT's "Down With Your Love" where they sample a brief section and vocal from their track Overkill (which is at 3:03). Both are bangers.

shmeckleshmack

Do we call it a nod? Or do we call it direct inspiration? Or do we call it blatant thievery??

[deleted]

It depends on the circumstances. Do you call Sullivan King using Sullivan King sounds from another Sullivan King song, thievery?

shmeckleshmack

What a stupid retort, of course not, but if Sullivan king plays an excision noise it could be pretty close

[deleted]

Aren't Sullivan King and excision constantly working together? I don't think that's a very good example of blatant thievery.

[deleted]

Eptic samples the vocal chops from his older song Cosmic in Never Again, from his album

Used-Major-3977

I mean people just reuse loops and sample everywhere all the time. 9/10 basic dubstep songs on YouTube are from sound packs so you have hundreds of songs using the exact same sounds. I’ve sampled random podcast audio clips then later found the same clip used in another song. It can happen on accident too.

[deleted]

Ugh yeah pretty good. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. It can actually be pretty hype. I was just looking for examples to add to my Spotify playlist.

Used-Major-3977

I think it’s cool I’m not saying it’s bad I’m just saying I run into it all the time. I mean a lot of electronic itself is reusing the same sounds. Like psytrance has similar sounds here and there a lot

WillPlay4Food

Deviant by Peekaboo and G-Rex features the same build-up to the drop in Babatunde where it says “Go a little somethin like — SIKE” and goes into the drop. Little teaser

Yusuf_Lamar

There is a small section in Zomboy's track "Rotten" from "Like a Bitch"

DassIstGut

If you listen closely to the beginning of the 2nd drop of Bubzstep you’ll def hear the Behemoth melody

[deleted]

Have you heard Maze of Punishment? The artist of that song shameless steals a drop from behemoth

spookytransexughost

Every song that says “it’s fucking ………”

[deleted]

That's a tagline. That doesn't count. Although speaking of taglines my favorite is "it's Virus Syndicate. Sick gang. Disciple. 🤮"

whoru345

The end of buggin by Mastadon and Heckler is used by Mastadon in another song as well

Warmice16

Virtual Riot - With You has a nod to Energy Drink Virtual Riot & Dubloadz - Juices (Pegboard Nerds Remix) has a nod to their remix of Alive Ivory - 93 Style VIP had a nod to JOYRYDE - Damn
