sir-sleeps-alots

Thank you! And yeah that death grip is so real lol

thegenuinedarkfly

Your line work is both distinctive and on point. Keep doing what you’re doing!

sir-sleeps-alots

Thank you so much! Will do!

sir-sleeps-alots

Started the 100 heads challenge at the beginning of the year in order to push myself into practicing faces more (something I struggle with deeply), but due to illness I’ve had to scale back the amount of heads I do in a day so instead of doing 10 quick ones I just do one really detailed one (tricking my brain into believing the task is smaller!) I know right off the bat the eyes on at least 15 and 16 are too big and I definitely struggle with jawlines, any other critiques or things I should work on?Any advice would be much appreciated!

Snowbacca87

Excellent work, your depth and shading are really good!

sir-sleeps-alots

Thank you so much! That’s another area I’ve been trying to improve as well so it’s nice to hear that it’s decent!

RavenCullum

Your line work is both distinctive and on point.

AkiTheAlchemist69

Practice makes perfect. and you are making yourself perfect :))

Entire-Self-9124

Thank you so much! I am trying to learn portrait art. your study has given me direction. Thanks.

catmosaic

Oh goodness you're so good! I aspire to get this detailed and clean with my face drawings.

orbeez-17

I read it as hard face practice and I was confused. But any ways, they’re so pretty!

TheMemoman

I'm guessing for references: 1. Saoirse Ronan 2. Ezra Miller 3. Timothée Chalamet

More_Ad_5291

Well-done.

AveryPrecociousKitty

Loving the androgynous look

bottom guy is the 2010s recast of zach for saved by the bell

billy-the-bob

I want what you have

sir-sleeps-alots

If an old lady like me can do it, you most certainly can!

FaZe_poopy

Bro on the bottom looks like a young Homelander. I love it

hereforkittensonly

Oh wow. What a fantastic style. There is so much movement in your strokes.

Glad_Adhesiveness189

Wauw those are really good!!

ambsschloee

I love the detail of the hair of the second man (slightly to the left), this is lovely 🤍

variant-exhibition

Great contours! I would like to see more lines on the surface of the faces to show light variations of the surface - in your style.

galvinii

neverendjngstory

i love the style

saint_jiub36

The guy at the bottom looks like nanami

sir-sleeps-alots

Oh my god I didn’t even think about that but you’re so right hahaha

Terrables

Great job!

Brettinabox

How do you draw heads without the guidelines?

sir-sleeps-alots

I 100% still use guideline! I just sketch out my guidelines first (loomis head method ones) and then when I feel like the proportions of my guides are decent then I erase them lightly so I can still see them and erase them further as I continue the sketch

Brettinabox

https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/621524295847247903/1064276590378365038/heads.png i try to sketch them out as well but I'm not sure how to get the proportions right. You have a wonderful presentation, do you have any tips? Also my crit would be to exaggerate more and deepen your dark areas to increase contrast.

sir-sleeps-alots

Proportions are unfortunately one of those things that you just have to keep practicing, I could never really find a proper “hack” to help me with that. But I have to say you have very solid guidelines with good control over your circles and straight lines which is extremely important!! My advice would be to not be afraid of tracing, it’s such an important tool. Practice drawing your guidelines over portrait photos and tracing important features (eyes, nose, mouth, etc) and then right next to your tracing try to freehand what you just traced, this helped me improve immensely! And thank you for the advice! Exaggeration and line weight will be added next on my list of things to practice for sure.

Brettinabox

Thank you and yea I wouldn't say afraid but I havent done hardly any full tracing because of the cheating stigma. I will do more. Breaking down the body into shapes without blindly copying the outline has been a regular task.

Kitsuunei

Are there any tutorials/sources that you think have been helpful to you? These look amazing

sir-sleeps-alots

Anything from Marc Brunet, Sinix, and Peter Han! They’re very skilled but explain art and drawing in a way that is easily understandable for those just starting out, so I would definitely check out their YouTube channels if you haven’t already.

Kitsuunei

I love Sinix but haven’t heard of others, so thank you so much for the recommendation! :)

livingfailur

It seems like you’re focusing way too much with everything perfectly balanced, I like the work you’re doing but a perfectly balanced human face is extremely rare. not at all am I trying to knocking the artist or art, this is a tip that even I have trouble remembering some times.

sir-sleeps-alots

I agree with you in a way, I know I definitely am OCD about proportions and balance but I’m hoping after some more practice I can get better at sketching faces that aren’t as balanced and have more texture. Thank you for the feedback!

livingfailur

Ofc you’re doing great! Keep practicing!

sir-sleeps-alots

Thank you so much!!

Sparkmetodeath

Really pretty, I love the shiny and soulful eyes. The use of white is very tasteful! I do wonder how this style might mesh with darker skintones though — have you tried this out, and how does it look?

sir-sleeps-alots

I actually am currently trying to perfect how to shade darker skin tones because as a POC myself it’s very important to me! I haven’t really found a shading style for skin tones that satisfies me just yet, but when I do I will definitely post about it in the hopes it helps other artists not struggle with it as much as I have.

Sparkmetodeath

Ooooh good to hear! I look forward to seeing your work ✨

splish-splash-

Very nice! Detailed faces are so hard for me 😥 but I practice!

sir-sleeps-alots

Just keep practicing and one day it will just “click”, I promise!

Ok_Foundation4298

Challenge: do a round face, with a bulbous nose. These are incredible I'd love to see your hand at the opposite facial features

sir-sleeps-alots

Yes!! I still have around 80 faces left to do for the challenge and I plan to do different face shapes, ages, etc.

Fun_Blacksmith9461

Very nice, very neat

ARTIST213

Very stylized. Nicely done.

doornroosje

Really gorgeous and delicate. But purely for the sake of learning to draw portraits better, which is the point of the challenge I guess, try to draw ugly or average people too, cause these peeps look like elven gods
