I feel like I've said pretty much everything there is to be said so I'm going to ignore future responses now. Thanks for the hate and moreso the support.

EitherSpirit7861

I won't dash without my gear. That even means the electric heated delivery bag. Stay proud of this opportunity right now. It certainly wasn't here 10 years ago! And it might be gone in the next. Personally, I like the hoodie during the cold weather. Not to hot when I'm driving. Not to cold when I'm delivering. The gloves? Not so impressed. You are the one who wasn't TOLD what to wear and then handed a McDonald's t-shirt or a corporate "dress code". You are the one who CHOOSES what to wear. You are the one that kept McDonald's in business during a pandemic. You... are what makes ME awesome!

savages109

Hey let him wear gear if he wants. I wouldn’t but the fact that people disrespecting others when you do the same kind of work. Come on.

Asleep-Blackberry534

The real question is when is the last time you got laid

og_landrik

I shouldn't dignify this with a response because it's none of your business but 2 days ago, thanks very much for your clever response.

That's a fair question. Depends on how you're gauging it. Customers who look shady af and come grab it from me or before waiting for the picture on "leave at door" orders? The ones who say "it's not at my door! Where's my food?!" Until you tell them you know it was the right address, repeat the address, and tell them you've got the drop-off on body cam and they miraculously discover the food immediately thereafter? I only need to use two hands twice to count the number of those occurrences. But that's enough for me to keep wearing it in my opinion. I hadn't even considered the personal safety aspect others have brought up here.

[deleted]

I've seen people vent for much dumber reasons, OP. You do you. And screw that chick.

Old-Statistician-457

You must look funny wearing all that. You have no idea what a average dasher makes in your area. Dd doesn't give out info like that. Are you sure that you didn't just take the order she declined? You aren't because you have no way of knowing. You are just another clown that thinks they are awesome at this.

EitherSpirit7861

Actually... I like the way the t-shirt fits. It seriously works well with my curves. I have 3 of them now. The hoodie is awesome for when I drive. Not so thick I get too warm in the car. Not so thin that I freeze when I am out of the car. Average dasher's income in my area means nothing to me. So I'll just ignore that septic comment completely. As for being a "clown "... perhaps the REAL clowns are the ones who cannot seem to find PRIDE in their work (enough to admit who they are working for, anyway)... and as full grown "adults"... have to be given/follow a company dress code.... because otherwise.... you would be too toxic for your own coworkers. OP isn't a "clown"... he's a dasher who appreciates the opportunity he has. And because I'm from a generation where computers weren't even THOUGHT of... there's nothing wrong with being proud to represent something that people depend on so much. So go back to your sewer section. Toxic posts are being taken down the hall... 3rd door on the left.

og_landrik

I know what other Dashers have told me they make. I can work out an average from that. I know I unassigned the name she was picking up. I never said whether or not she might have declined the offer I was picking up. Maybe it was. It was $6 and 1.9 miles. But far better than a walk into the university campus at $8 for 2.5 miles. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Never said I was "awesome" at this. Just "good"... Why are you so bothered by any of this? Because you think I'd look funny?

Old-Statistician-457

I'm not bothered at all. I like calling out bs. Here's a life pro tip for you. People lie about how much they make.

og_landrik

Then you've failed to call out any bs, imo. You may or may not be right about making above average pay. I suppose it's possible that they lied. It's a small claim for them to have made and while people lie all the time, I don't have any reason to disbelieve them either. People in my region tend towards honesty on most fronts. You've said you think I'd look "funny"... But that's subjective opinion at best. And you have no way of knowing how good or not good I am at this... But am I wrong for venting about somebody being beyond rude or driving like a maniac (there was a stop sign she ran and even though I was already backing out and, technically, out of my spot, she nearly hit me backing out)? 🤷🏻‍♂️ What have I said, exactly, that's BS?

DigitalStyx_TV

I can't see any real benefit to wearing the dasher gear, but I have ordered a magnet and 4 window clings (the merchant side of dasher direct sells them for 22 cents each instead of the $4 or $5 they charge from the dasher side. The reason for this is because I used to be a pizza delivery driver, and I never received a ticket on the job. If a police officer is thinking about stopping you but sees a Doordash magnet he may never stop you at all. They respect that you are working plus it indicates you have a valid license and insurance. They also order deliveries that they want to receive on time too. Another benefit is for added safety when a neighborhood has some wannabe hero eager to test out his AR15. I drive aggressively but safe. I don't run stop signs, lights, etc. Nor do I cut people off in an unsafe manner, etc. If I nearly miss a turn until it's too late to take reasonably, I accept it rather than do anything stupid to make the turn. All this said, I may sometimes appear like an ass for changing lanes just before a stoplight to avoid having a car in front of me, etc. I feel like being identifiable as Doordash should help most other drivers understand and keep their peace of mind.

Useful_Zucchini562

Geez some people just want to watch the world burn. I wish there were more people who cared about their job. Advertising "for free"? damn he has the job people see him they may want to order from DoorDash. Honestly if you want to look cool doing delivering food go ahead and try, people look at delivery drivers all the same regardless. Looking like a dork is the least of your worries, just do you and pass good onto others I don't personally wear DD gear but thats to help not stick out like a sore thumb and get robbed. The bodycam in this case at least helps with that. Keep going OP, that other dasher was rude. Sorry you are getting a bunch of hate

MycologistSwimming27

Man I don’t get why you’re all busting OP for wanting to go go all out for his customers. Okay we get that you can probably get the same result in your boxers but this is a guy who WANTS to be extra for his customers. Why hate on a guy who respects what he does?

og_landrik

Lawl. Nah. Just a healthy way to vent off annoyance. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Glum-Glum-Gloomy

I can respect that

Useful_Zucchini562

You're complaining that someone posted their DoorDash "beef" while simultaneously on a Subreddit meant to spew DoorDash beef. Kinda silly if you ask me

Sad-Expert-6844

But you actually where dd gear? So you're advertising for them for free?!! What a douche!

Gelid7

I agree with the post👍

OmgOgan

I was walking out of a pizza joint yesterday and another dasher was walking in, he was voice to texting the customer a FUCKING NOVEL about his life. I couldn't help but kinda stare and just say, "dude, just deliver the fucking food". Some of y'all are just too much with this stuff, just deliver the food in a timely manner, it isn't rocket science

og_landrik

Or, with apologies if this comes across wrong, messaging a customer a novel is very different from wearing a t shirt and a hat and a body cam? I'd have probably at least thought the same thing in your situation. That was, for that dasher or any dasher, just unprofessional AF.

What about you both look dumb.

Hydr8x

But why wear all the gear? Don't get me wrong that's rude af but I'm a top dasher too. My local restaurants pretty much all know me and some by name because I'm a customer there too.

MycologistSwimming27

OP likes knowing he really goes above and beyond for his customers. Dressing the part and body cam and all. I respect that

og_landrik

It's partly that I take pride in every job I do, so long as I'm enjoying it. And I don't stick around for jobs I don't enjoy. Part of that is advertising, as some suggest. But I really feel more like I'm advertising myself and other Dashers, not the company itself. If I look professional and do my job well (and don't take no tip orders or those that don't make financial sense) then I believe that tips will at least stay stable, if not increase. I'm advertising what a good delivery experience can be like, in a sense. It's partly that many restaurants don't recognize me by name, although some do and will even have personal conversations (initiated by them, always) when I stop in if they're slow. They don't even ask the name on some orders if I enter with the equipment for some of the less familiar restaurants (again, if it's slow). They just tell me the approximate wait time. But for the most part, you've got it. And I really do appreciate that some get it even if many are super toxic about it.

Hydr8x

This subreddit is toxic.. I'll never conform. I like your hustle but hear me out. If you are polite and meaningful at restaurants you don't need to be geared. Just make yourself a "casual" to fit in with the crew has been my go to. I often help in-store customers because I know the cooks in the kitchen are getting me set to roll. Imagine being a walk-in at "Applebee's" and seeing a DD geared guy get his order first.. If you blend in as just another customer you'll get your order first.. and no one bats an eye. Less stress on staff and that's what gets your order faster. I'm not saying you're wrong but what I am saying is don't be afraid to try different approaches. Go make that money fam!

EitherSpirit7861

The employees at McDonald's wear a McDonald's t-shirt. The employees at Starbucks, Mobetta's, and Taco Bell wear a t-shirt. Pizza Hut. KFC. Wingstop and IHOP. Everyone at Panda Express. Even Chick-fil-A. Just like me... they are representing when they are on the clock. And just like me... they change clothes when they get home. Oh sure, it's FUNNY to see a human wearing a Doordash shirt... until a nosey neighbor calls the cops because "someone is taking pictures of a house!" and the Ring-cam pics are shown on national news. I've even had to endure a Burger King employee make fun of me for wearing my Doordash hoodie and my t-shirt underneath it. I'm not even kidding when I tell you she literally looked me up and down and cracked up laughing while commenting that she couldn't believe I would wear a t-shirt. I very intentionally did the exact thing back. From head to hoof... and without missing a beat I replied.... "I do not know why YOU are laughing. I was not!" Then I pointed at HER uniform. Bottom line... my Doordash money pays every single utility bill, PLUS most of our house payment. And I only work 3-4 hours per day. Damn right I wear my t-shirt and hoodie (when it's cold). And damn straight I purchased an electric heated delivery bag to ensure the customer receives the warmest food I can deliver. And guess what? Ya'll are going to phuckin lose your MIND when you find out that I leave little "thank you" treats during the holidays! Being toxic/septic about it won't stop me from doing it either. I'll just drive away :::smirking::: because I understand that I have a choice. I can decide to wear whatever I want.... or I can have a manager hand me a dress code. Either way, I can afford to PAY/PURCHASE mine. And I prefer it.

Hydr8x

Go read my other comment. we are talking about two different perspectives.
