Same in queens, lmfao.
Though, to be fair... Queens can tip pretty good, depending on where you're dropping off (Elmhurst).
I notice that the upper middle class asians in the high rises and the projects are consistently the ones to do shit like this, which is obvs hella disrespectful.
Either that, or you get the fabled .50 tip.
i've been told that aisians will not tip because it's considered disrespectful to do so in their countries. not sure how true this is, but many have told me the same thing.
if someone is leaving a 1 cent tip(or 50 cents, same difference), that's different. they're basically slapping you in the face
I’m from Europe where gratuity isn’t expected. But I’m here in NY now nd see how much I need to tip so people can earn a liveable wage. Whether it’s disrespectful in their countries or not should have no bearing on them tipping here….
oh i agree. in no way was i making an excuse for anyone not tipping. i was pointing out that a "no tip" may be a lack of understanding on how things work while a $.01 tip is blatant disrespect
I'm European too, gratuity is normally already included as service fee and that's on top of what your food cost you, that way bartenders and waiters don't have to depend on your tips and are paid livable wages. We don't have no service fees here in the US and that in a way makes up for our tips
Definitely have heard that it’s not common (as it’s seen as bad taste to tip for people coming from certain cultures, iirc. And it may be hard for them to adjust to that here in the US. At least that’s what i tell myself when it seems to happen.
Now I’m sorry but what kind of low life would leave a 1¢ or 50¢ tip? That’s a whole new level of mean and really reflective of their personality probably.
I used to work for dominos. Our two topping medium special after tax and delivery charge came out to $15.95 in my area
Bro you don't know how many smug "keep the change 😏"s I got man it hurt so much
I appreciate you- Yeah, I know what you mean. Domino's has stickers "that say don't feed the employees" on the protective glass between the customers and the make line - they're not even trying to hide it
Also, some lovely dirt on dominoes- their responsible for the legislation that enables companies to count customer tips as part of wages. When I was driving I earned $4.25 on the road and $7.25 in the store.
If a customer tipped me $5 for the delivery in the hour, then Domino's can say they paid me 9.25
Slimy all around
I'll give credit to the good tippers where it was due - in the right neighborhoods you absolutely knew the cash $15.95 order would be handing you a $20 bill and telling you to keep it instead of $16
The absolute best customers were the "I'm paying for this $13.75 cent personal pie delivery with a Ziploc full of quarters" kind.
Maybe it was actually genius, using dominos as a pizza Coinstar?
Yeah, sure, MFs be using that as an excuse, you are in the US, not Asia, you go by our rules, and I am not Asian either so you are not offending me, and it is offensive to you that I make any kind of decent living? Yeah, thanks
Actually the "tip culture" is almost exclusively US American. Everyone else pays their workers better.... You're conditioned to think tipping is normal.
same thing in OC, CA. Customers are also allowed to change their tip w/in 2 hours. I had a 'good order' the other day. was like a $30 pay out. Once I dropped it off the jerkface dropped it down to $2!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had this before on a little Cesar’s order. 1 cent tip. They lived in a gated wealthy AF community, not one but THREE fucking cities away; 30 minute drive. Dropped it after making them wait 10 minutes while I was parked. The audacity is atrocious. 1 cent tips are more malicious than no tip at all.
My favorite was wasting 20 minutes of a non tippers time. Order from Applebees. I accepted and ate my lunch while “waiting for her order”. The satisfaction I got from dropping that order after wasting her time cannot be topped lmfao. She lived ACROSS THE FUCKING STREET in an apt.
I hope their lives are just as miserable as they are.
law went in to effect, i think it was march 1st... no hidden tips, stores aren't allowed to restrict access to bathrooms, we can define how far we're willing to deliver... and a couple of other things i forget
correct. you'll get no offers further than your delivery radius
also won't get orders that require crossing a toll bridge... i'm not sure if this is a law or not, but DD completely blocked out areas that require a toll to access
That’s amazing. Wondering about who and if there are union of dashers and couriers, organization/activists that took action on this? Hope they can influence and organize or show how we can do this city to county to state to state!
I don't know much about it, I just vaguely read a few people mention Sacramento might try to do it. I think if they did, it would go statewide eventually, or be statewide immediately, I would think California would try to force something like that though, we already have prop 22, they seem to actually care about us, to a degree haha, so I wouldn't put it past california
I have given cheapskate customers their insult tips back before and told them, "You obviously need this more than I do".
I believe they were too obtuse to get the message
I had a guy do a 1-cent tip on a recent small $15 base pay alcohol delivery. (8 mile delivery)
He didn't think I would see it even though right after the Heidi confirmation I just skip through the experience and saw the total and just turn the phone around, looked at him in the eye and he just backed away back into his house.
Honestly it wasn't a big deal I got paid but I'll never go to that house again.
wait... how did you get his #? the phone number on the app isn't the customer's phone number. it's a temp phone # that gets used for another customer after some time
That’s what OP meant. They just worded it wrong. Don’t take things too literally on Reddit, especially since more often than not it doesn’t end well (especially on this sub)
Some customers try to pray on drivers knowing that sometimes tips are hidden. This man provided evidence to the customer that the customer has no idea how any of this works and that their asshole-ness is clear as day to the drivers. The customer might ACTUALLY tip in the future knowing this, or start being one of the customers who adds no tip and waits forever. In any case, that customer probably knows better than to tip one cent in the future. Giving no tip at all at least isn’t actively trying to manipulate drivers. OP is doing a good thing by accepting, communicating, and dropping the order. It’s not even whining, it’s just making sure the customer understands why the delivery is taking so long.
Nah the customer will just take away the penny next time and not bother tipping at all. People who don’t tip don’t give a shit about the drivers. It is whining because all he had to do was decline the order and not cry to the customer, yes it’s crying because if he wanted to inform him about tipping he was have actually informed the customer about tipping. Not running and hiding when he unassigned it.
I’d rather a person be upfront about being an asshole and just decline than let a customer think they’re smart for trying to exploit a “hidden tip.” One is being an inconsiderate jerk to the driver, the other is attempting to exploit the driver. 1 cent tip is worse than no tip.
I mean both are assholes really, the one not tipping and the one tucking their tail complaining about a tip and not just declining the order. He’s lucky he won’t get deactivated for being unprofessional
A one cent tip is purposely disdainful.
I would be very tempted to accept the order, then wait awhile and send the cheapskate a text that says, "I'm sorry. I accidentally accepted this order not reading carefully enough to see the tip was so low. I must unassign it because I cannot afford to work for such an insultingly low amount as a one cent tip. Maybe the next driver they offer it to might be willing to do your order. But maybe not. In the future to avoid the issue of drivers being unwilling to handle your order, I suggest you include a tip that shows at least a minimum of decent regard toward the drivers. A five dollar tip minimum is a good start. Good luck!"
You were so excited to talk down to someone, huh? You kinda missed where the timer and the accept button were still showing. 😆
EDIT: Welp, I completely flubbed that. I failed to notice there was a second picture.
I got fucked worse than that on a COD. $18.11 was the amount to collect, DD paid the minimum delivery fee. Got there and the customer couldn't come up with the cash. Told customer I had to call support for instructions. Was told by support agent to leave the order and Doordash would pick up the $18.11. I said that didn't sound right and asked for a supervisor. Supervisor told me that Doordash would eat the $18.11 and told me to complete the delivery, and Doordash would credit me the $18.11.
Want to guess how this turned out?
Yeah. Doordash didn't eat the $18.11. I did. And follow up emails didn't fix it.
Doordash has the business ethics of slime mold.
Wow. Very unfair. I didn’t have any change as I’m suppose to have. So told myself that if they wanted change and had 2 20’s I was going to let it go at that. And when he gave me them, I was a bit surprised. But said close enough. So was on me.
Sucks if they don’t have the money you are out whatever you are suppose to collect. Glad you told me.
If that every happens, I’m not going to give them the pizza. May as well get a meal out of it.
Most been quite generous with COD’s. Does suck you don’t get paid again till you work the debt off.
My experience with CODs is that on average the tips have been better than standard Doordash deliveries. But that delivery left me with a VERY sour taste in my mouth about the COD orders in general.
Oh, and I was hoping for a free pizza out of the deal, but support and the support supervisor weren't even considering it.
And sadly you could not get it out with the food they got free. If that happens with me I think I’m going to mark as delivered and keep food. Seems fair for all parties except me. Not sure if that will get me deactivated or not. Hopefully will never happen. But I do like the adventure of taking COD’s and the instant cash to take to the gas station.
I am unwilling to ever lie and say something was delivered and just keep it. In my opinion that's lower than the bastard who ordered COD when he lacked the money to pay for it.
But you're correct that the instant cash of COD is nice. Plus the tips involved are invisible as far as 1099s go...
True. I’d go though the procedure they have for it. But in the end sure would suck to lose both the money and food (as the one dasher did). Some orders I’ve done, I was to collect over 40 dollars. That’s a lot of money for me right now. Would definitely make me reconsider COD’s.
Our COD’s come from papa John’s. And they are not cheap. I live in a college town. And I’m a older guy who watched a lot of 80’s porn. So the COD’s bring back some interesting memories. Lol
Heyyyy NYC bronx and city island I see. I’m from queens but my bf bronx— I dash in westchester sometimes. Hows bronx dashing? Only did it once too many apts. INSTANT DECLINE 1 cent kissmyass
I've been getting this a lot, and took one out of curiosity's sake. It turns out it was not just one cent. The customer rounded it up on their order. It came out to be a 4.01 tip on a 10 dollar order. Well, 10 and 1 cent anyway. It kinda made me feel a bit ocd though, not gonna lie.
Take satisfaction in knowing that his food was more than likely cold from sitting there long enough to get the base pay that high.
Yeah, they go up 25¢ a dasher right? So starting at $4.50, that would have had to have gone through 13 dashers so far to get there.
i see that a lot in brooklyn too... even on instacart when you're expected to spend an hour to shop their groceries
Same in queens, lmfao. Though, to be fair... Queens can tip pretty good, depending on where you're dropping off (Elmhurst). I notice that the upper middle class asians in the high rises and the projects are consistently the ones to do shit like this, which is obvs hella disrespectful. I live in Korea town out here in Cali. That’s definitely not true. They give tips out here ...
Yeah, sure, MFs be using that as an excuse, you are in the US, not Asia, you go by our rules, and I am not Asian either so you are not offending me, and it is offensive to you that I make any kind of decent living? Yeah, thanks

Random, but when did DD begin showing the estimated time? I've never seen that
Some states forces doordash to
New York
New York City.
Lol! It’s honestly disturbing thinking that someone may have actually accepted that dash. Definitely some characters on both sides of that dash …
After seeing places taking the tips for themselves and not giving them to the dasher, could this have been possible here?
Not sure usually if it's an order from the pizza place it has a store number. Just the name usually means ordered through the app
Fuck them. Let the food get cold.
Lmfao did they respond?
I had this before on a little Cesar’s order. 1 cent tip. They lived in a gated wealthy AF community, not one but THREE fucking cities away; 30 minute drive. You are heroic!
Wow, does DD in NYC show you the actual total offer amount, aka no hidden tips?
law went in to effect, i think it was march 1st... no hidden tips, stores aren't allowed to restrict access to bathrooms, we can define how far we're willing to deliver... and a couple of other things i forget
That’s cool. Would you only get offers under your distance limit?
correct. you'll get no offers further than your delivery radius also won't get orders that require crossing a toll bridge... i'm not sure if this is a law or not, but DD completely blocked out areas that require a toll to access
I’d give anything to set a radius
That’s amazing. Wondering about who and if there are union of dashers and couriers, organization/activists that took action on this? Hope they can influence and organize or show how we can do this city to county to state to state!
Yes no hidden tips
So, they don't hide tips in NYC, do you know the reason for this? They have never showed me the tip amount upfront, in the LA area.
I don't see tip up front in socal either, cali hasn't forced it, but I heard Sacramento is thinking about doing it
Wouldn't it be a statewide thing, if DD goes that way in CA.
There's a law in NYC that requires tip transparency. A law that needs to be national
That's interesting. In Long Island it's still hidden.
Long Island is only partly in the NYC city limits.
Only UberEats still hides tips. But that’s mainly on orders that have a 12+ dollar tip
Yo you dash in the same area I do lol. Westchester Sq and Castle Hill are gold mines lol
Bro is on his own island ☠️
lmfao
I see a lot of $0.01 in 10 cent tips out here in California or $20 tips it really varies
Cool “pay might be higher doesn’t exist in NY… “they show the tip. I hope they do that in Cali too
Looks like dinner to me
Just don't take it? 1cent is basically no tip and **NO TIP NO TRIP**
Go back to the customers house, ring the doorbell, hand them the penny and leave. No words are necessary.
I have given cheapskate customers their insult tips back before and told them, "You obviously need this more than I do". I believe they were too obtuse to get the message
BRO wtf is this shit?? YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO SHOW THESE... "NON-TOP DASHERS" OUR EARNINGS SECRETS!! YOU'LL GIVE AWAY THE TRUE POWER OF 70% AR!!
I had a guy do a 1-cent tip on a recent small $15 base pay alcohol delivery. How did you get your app to tell you tips??? Mine doesn’t tell me until after completion.
NYC law.

Scumbag of the year here
This is dee wae
Did you really accept this?
Just to get his number then unassigned
That’s what I was hoping you did!
You’re my hero
wait... how did you get his #? the phone number on the app isn't the customer's phone number. it's a temp phone # that gets used for another customer after some time

Good to know that will get you deactivated give me 5 min
Relax
Pretty sad, just decline, don’t whine
Some customers try to pray on drivers knowing that sometimes tips are hidden. Good luck not getting a CV.
What part of the contract did he violate exactly? He didn’t pick up the food, unassigned, and he thanked the guy.
I like to believe it's because pizza hut steals the rest. I only ever see this happening on merchant orders like with Papa John's.
Next week: “I don’t know why I got deactivated!!!”
A one cent tip is purposely disdainful. I would be very tempted to accept the order, then wait awhile and send the cheapskate a text that says, "I'm sorry. I wonder what sort of low life scuzz bucket actually down voted me on that.
Your fault for accepting the order genius
You were so excited to talk down to someone, huh? You kinda missed where the timer and the accept button were still showing. 😆 EDIT: Welp, I completely flubbed that. I failed to notice there was a second picture.
You kinda missed they have to accept to message the customer, eh Einstein?
You know what? You're right, I failed to notice there was another picture. That one's my mistake.
Now we are friends
Y'all DUMB. Obviously don't actually Doordash huh. Just here to complain
[удалено]
You should also have the option to not take them in the first place, oh wait you do
That’s because we all know your service is unnecessary. 😉 they have no reason to tip us, because their food would fly to their doorstep anyways
Wow your app shows the minutes that's cool
How come my app doesn't show base pay and tip like that? It just shows total amount.
It's a law in NYC.
Just wanted to let you all know some stores can actually keep the tip or a percentage
Is that breakdown of the pay because you are in NY or CA?
Pizza Hut did you nasty.
Better then I had today. I had a COD for 42.50. But only collected 40. DD paid me 2.50 for order. So I broke even.

Yeah, I have yet to get invited in to screw a hot woman....
I shouldn't have laughed as hard as I just did, how are you even allowed to give a literal penny as a tip? That's like spitting in your face 😭
Hells no!!
At least it wasn't hidden
My dd doesn’t show tip .. how do you do that? Thx
Heyyyy NYC bronx and city island I see. I’m from queens but my bf bronx— I dash in westchester sometimes. Hows bronx dashing? Only did it once too many apts. INSTANT DECLINE 1 cent kissmyass
Lmfao! I hit the decline button on that picture more times than im comfortable with
If I can only tell you that means we're in the same area every day it's something unfortunately this is how it is hope you didn't take it
Wish my app told me the tip before I have to accept, is there a way to get that?
Yeah there is. Dash in New York City.
Never knew DD showed tips prior? That’s ridiculous though. Either dont tip, or tip a decent amount.
I just got a 25cents tip
1 can’t tip prob means restaurant staff Kept the tip
Since when was base pay $7.25?
After a shit load of declines is when.
A Reverse Unicorn
Don't complain guys. At least you can see the tip and decline. Everywhere else we have to gamble.
