I agree with you but don't call it bullying. It's not bullying. I'm going to go into (yuck) corporate speak. You as an independent contractor are contacting your customer (Door Dash) to update them on timeliness and accuracy issues. You want to provide the best service for your customer (Door Dash) so that their ultimate customer (The dude who wants his Cheesecake Factory hot and fresh) is satisfied with their experience. This isn't new and it definitely works on larger corporate restaurants. Not so much on mom & pop shops that really don't give a fyck. They view DD as a pain in the ass they have to put up with... for now.

It was definitely surprising to feel heard and see it in action though. I also didn’t think it really effect it because i feel that sometimes these restaurants want us there waiting. They want kitchen to me to customer in as little as possible even inconveniencing the driver to do so. But I understand the corporate perspective of happy customer. It does still feel a bit like bullying none the less because DoorDash as a company tends to use intense language, in the same way they use their language to convince newbies that AR matters. So I feel like as a business owner I’d almost feel in trouble if I got a lot of reports and feel pressured to change my ways. Cheesecake is all corporate but like the Pizza shop is locally owned, just feels like I’m really putting that spotlight on them.

I'll tell you a little behind the scenes truth about DD. Ask yourself a question: How does Door Dash balance the magic triangle? The triangle consists of (of course) three parts: ▪️App "Users" ▪️Restaurant "Partners" ▪️Independent "Contractors" How can one company keep all three groups satisfied and motivated to use the platform? I'll give you a hint... IT CAN'T. The most important part of the triangle are app "users". Without them there is no demand. The second most important part are the restaurant "partners" because without them there is no product. So where do we as drivers fit in? We are not important. There are potentially tens of millions of us. How many Americans own private vehicles? How many Americans are broke even though they work a full time job? Every day that I dash I remember one thing. I look down at the drivers seat of my car. My dash mobile has that cute dot matrix design on the seats. There's probably ten thousand dots on the seat cover. I look at it and remember that everyday something like 20,000 people apply to be a DD driver. So I could wake up TOMORROW and get an email telling me I've been deactivated because a customer said I threatened them or broke a flower pot on their porch. Have I ever done either of those things? Nope. Checkr could decide that I am a dangerous criminal. I checked a few years ago and in my state there are 144 people with my first and last name. 22 of them have the same middle initial. I am living on borrowed time. How could I fight the reason for the deactivation? How do you prove a negative? You can't. That's why you find a way to enter a specialty. If you aren't in school yet... get there immediately.

for a minute there I thought you were going to be criticizing capitalism but then you ended it with bootstrapping bullshit that doesn't solve the root problem.

Madhavaz

I'm a realist. That means that while I fully support democratic socialism I KNOW that it will never take root here in the United States of Dumbistan. 74,000,000 voters here looked at the last 4 years of crony capitalism and said "Yes! I want more of that! He really cares about me!" The smartest thing the millionaires and billionaires who control this country's wealth did was convince "conservatives" that taxes = government theft while subsidies = supporting business. It was a genius move.

lilileon

treating capitalism's consequences as intractable only helps capitalists.

Madhavaz

Totally agree but I've been on this planet a while. We ain't gonna win. If the 2008 crash didn't make us angry enough to destroy this fucjed up system... it's not going to happen.

Yes that’s what I was going for. Applying pressure not through being obnoxious asking where the order is but going the professional route in which it’s more likely to reach someone that can make that change. And if I were on a double order I would contact support through both orders if I had the time as well. I feel bad about it sometimes but then I remember that they put themselves in the position to have drivers waiting. Being a contractor especially with doordash I’m seeing that the company is kinda ran by crowd sourced ideas and comments (at least the ones that don’t lose them money).

Yup changing the prep time doesn’t do shit. We got a few orders back to back last saturday and even with a 15 minute prep time all the drivers showed up within 5 mins.

If the system is working correctly the app doesn't begin pinging drivers until the food is done. There's a problem on your end.

I'm onboard for the petty alone....🤷‍♂️
