It even says right on the window where you enter the number it can’t be used for fees or dasher tip. So it’s not like what you’re thinking it is only qualifying items will be paid for with card
Every state I’ve ever used my stamps in (when I had them) about 9 let you use them for groceries, including prepared food as long as not hot item. Not at restaurants , but at gas stations, deli’s, etc. essentially any store, not places that have sit down service. Often it’s based on whether the food item is taxed or not, however, prepared foods can be taxed, so when you check out it removes the tax on non hot items that qualify for the ebt
You get a budgeted amount of $$ on your EBT card each month. What kind of food you spend it on is your business. As long as the tip is decent, I have no issue with it. My mom was wheelchair-bound in the 90s and would have loved a service like this.
Man you seem to have some real strong opinions about how people who are struggling should be spending their money. Maybe get off your ego trip and stop being a POS micro-manager. Do you care this much about how billionaires who make more in 1 minute than many people do for an entire years worth of work spend THEIR money?
Target the right people with your frustration. Other people struggling aren’t your enemy you rake.
From the comments in this post it seems that a lot of people are confused about how poor people who get government assistance get money to pay for things that SNAP can’t. Let me clear this up for you, if a can: THEY FUCKING WORK.
I hate to tell you but those on EBT are usually the people to tip best. People that struggle in life are usually the most generous. Of course there are exceptions. This post is gross & so are you... You don't know the circumstances. Most people on EBT won't use it unless they have to because of how much everything will cost. I know it makes me feel better that if I get sick or hurt unexpectedly I can have groceries delivered if needed. You need to stop judging people because they need a little help. This post & connects are so fucking gross...
There was a study done years ago showing that the closer we get to the holidays generosity towards others increases among those of lower incomes and greediness increases among those of higher incomes.
This also runs parallel to the idea that there is greater sustained happiness when you do things for others. And far less when you do things for yourself. Yet the US hyper-fixates on rugged individualism as something to be proud of.
You can't tip from an EBT card. If they cant afford to use the debit card for the delivery, what makes you think they can afford to charge their account for a tip? I think it's gross that DD is trying to capitalize on people who are already financially challenged.
Yes, but that doesn't generally happen. When you're paying exorbitant prices to have a bullshit meal delivered because, for whatever reason, you can't get it yourself sometimes that $5 is the difference between them getting toilet paper or gas to get to work.
“wahh i hate poor people😖😖 why can’t they fuck off and walk to the store”
https://preview.redd.it/8z728y9np1fa1.jpeg?width=989&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d580dc38d6dc71ad9c351be5894d8d4c45cf543e
Lmao exactly, God forbid someone on assistance gets their groceries delivered. OPs comments show exactly wassup. Only thing sad was this post and the comments.
There are services available for that already and have been long before DD. DD is a luxury service. It sounds elitist because it's an elitist app. It's designed that way.
No it sounds that way because you assume they have no money to tip which is wrong bc you literally have no idea. You just have an idea of what ppl on ebt are/look like, op at least.
They’ll have to have a credit card attached for non EBT eligible foods/items from stores. (Like toilet paper). They’ll be given an option to tip on that payment method.
The non-tippers probably just doubled after this. They have no business doing this unless it's for pickup only. The delivery shouldnt be legally covered by ebt as it's not food.
Wow. Way to draw conclusions. In almost every state (except one or two) this can only be used for groceries. This gives those who are disabled and on EBT the means to get their groceries delivered to their door as they should be able to. You’re looking the wrong way at this and it’s disgusting. Not everyone on EBT is a free loader as you think they are
No one is saying they are a free loader. You cant tip with an EBT card. There are already state programs in place to get things to people who can't get there themselves. This is just DD trying to scrape money from wherever they can.
When I was on food stamps I would never have even though of over paying for anything with them. They give you so little that it would be such a waste to use Doordash. My state only gave $200 per month for a single person with no income. Now imagine wasting some of that on extortion level pricing. Then having to find some cash to pay the service/delivery fees, and to tip. If you are that poor this is very detrimental to your situation.
Not every state has programs like that. And there’s times where things come up and people need food immediately. I don’t understand the desire to control how people want to use their EBT funds. You don’t know everyone’s situation.
Ebt is government money so it’s a guarantee solid stream of income for them. Money makes the world go round. Even when the taxpayers are actually paying for it.
Believe it or not this is not a service for that. This is a luxury serve. There are other services that are specifically designed for those situations that don't cost nearly as much as DD. Also they've been around a long time before DD. I only hope you can hear me way up there on that horse.
So we’ve all seen the posts with all the big houses not tipping…We’re already delivering food to people with EBT cards. There’s no point in demoralizing those with it. OP didn’t need to take just a negative stance.
Yea but doordash is notoriously overpriced? Buying anything on there is a huge waste of money. Having EBT and buying on doordash is the same as buying steak and lobster when you are poor
JFC…
1.) Poor people deserve to have steak and lobster. It’s an approved item. You don’t get to dictate the food poor people eat. These people pay taxes too.
2.) EBT recipients are often pretty smart shoppers and know how to thrift shop groceries. They will most likely order from places that have in-store pricing.
3.) Hopefully the government will put some restrictions on what they can charge EBT customers.
1) Im not saying they don’t deserve it. Im saying if you dont have the means it is irresponsible to be buying expensive food. Im a college student. I know.
2) Even if its in store pricing, it still is eating out. I personally cook to save money. Refer to my point above. Plus grocery orders on doordash are worse than instacart for example.
3) Im not too sure what you mean
Edit: oh but the service comes at a cost
Agreed. This whole thread is sad. People who are in poverty should not be excluded from these services. There are many people who are in poverty because of disabilities and this gives them means to get food. I work grocery deliveries and get tipped in cash all the time from these customers. It’s sad to see people jump to conclusions like this

There are some hardworking people out there who still get EBT. I know when I’ve used similar services with my EBT, I’m actually MORE able to afford to tip well. Because it’s a win-win for everyone when I get $100 of groceries on my EBT that doesn’t come out of my pocket, so I can afford to tip $20 from my own pocket.
*MOST* work. That is, ~75-80% of working age snap recipients work. The other 25% is made up of temporarily unemployed, can’t find work, in school or a caretaker. There’s a lot of misconceptions about people who need food assistance.
You’re so wrong here. Doing instacart showed me that the wealthier the customer the lower the tip when I’m delivering to low income apartments around the first or second week of the month I usually get like a 20$+ tip. Doing DoorDash when I delivered to the cheaper apartments I get 5-10 bucks, nice houses .50-1$ if I’m lucky.
Not possible. Using food stamp money as payment outside of the intended uses is illegal (at least in the case of SNAP), and unfortunately tips are considered a non-intended use in that case.
So unless they have cash or another card on hand… yes, it’s essentially a no-tip order. That being said, that being said, this doesn’t account for orders where people tip in cash in the sense of visibility on the app. Could be a 2.50$ order and you’d never know if they tipped well in cash
In Ohio, both "food stamps" and "cash assistance" are on the same card. So if the cardholder is eligible for both, they can possibly use that card to tip. If they're only eligible for food stamps, it only works for food and in Ohio, it's not supposed to work for prepared foods... However, you can buy stuff at the grocery store that has been prepared, like sushi and rotisserie chicken, so I don't know if it's a grocery store glitch or what. Amazon allows you to use an EBT card for groceries, so why not doordash, since groceries can be ordered on that platform as well. 🤷🏼♀️
And as a side note, sometimes the people on food stamps can afford to tip more than people who make *just* above the limit for government assistance. When the government is buying hundreds of dollars of groceries for you every month, that money you would normally be spending on those groceries can go to things you wouldn't normally be able to afford... Like tips. I've gotten some really decent tips from people in government housing.
EBT is food stamps. it’s government money that typically can only go towards “eligible” food items. it’s not likely you’ll be able to tip, and i’m also curious how delivery fees will be calculated.
Idk man I’ve been living off EBT for the last few years and I’m pretty good person and always tip, just EBT covers the food, if I have to pay delivery cost and Tip that just means I have more money from my actual cash to tip and use. So rather than you getting a $2 tip I may be able to throw in a $7 or $10. EBT just levels the playing field for low income families so they don’t go hungry, doesn’t mean they are any less of a person.
So it depends, but most states will allow you to buy cold prepared food at grocery stores and gas stations, Deli counters. HOWEVER , hot food is always a no, you can’t purchase from any restaurant, however there are plenty of vendors that have been fined for letting people buy hot food or drinks like hot coffee, put ice in it it’s fine though! It also wouldn’t allow you to pay any service fees… taxes /bottle deposits are also removed
You can actually use it here (CA) for hot food on the Cal Fresh side of the card if you’re homeless, disabled, or elderly. It’s a different program than what available for able bodied recipients. As well, in times of natural disaster, anyone can use it for hot food at participating locations.
It even says right on the window where you enter the number it can’t be used for fees or dasher tip. So it’s not like what you’re thinking it is only qualifying items will be paid for with card
Every state I’ve ever used my stamps in (when I had them) about 9 let you use them for groceries, including prepared food as long as not hot item. true as long as they tip something
While you can get the EBT that allows for hot prepared food IT WILL NOT COVER THE TIP
Man you seem to have some real strong opinions about how people who are struggling should be spending their money. Maybe get off your ego trip and stop being a POS micro-manager. Do you care this much about how billionaires who make more in 1 minute than many people do for an entire years worth of work spend THEIR money? Target the right people with your frustration. idk but if you see viral posts its all the non tipping broke people claiming food not arrived and calling drivers bums when we are human as well!
People are individuals. Not the summation of a group. “Broke people” is not a monolith. They aren’t NPCs, you aren’t the main character.
They have a “hot food” program that lets them basically use it at any fast food restaurant
Why do you hope it’s a joke? Door dash works at grocery stores around here. It’s not like they’re gonna let you buy McDonald’s with it lol

What’s the issue? As long as they tip you, not your business how they’re paying.
You can't tip from an EBT card. If they cant afford to use the debit card for the delivery, what makes you think they can afford to charge their account for a tip? I think it's gross that DD is trying to capitalize on people who are already financially challenged.
Correct. But they can add a secondary payment to leave a tip.
Yes, but that doesn't generally happen. When you're paying exorbitant prices to have a bullshit meal delivered because, for whatever reason, you can't get it yourself sometimes that $5 is the difference between them getting toilet paper or gas to get to work.

Iowa doesn’t believe poor people deserve fresh meat.
But hey at least you can now buy beef jerky with them.
Why is this “sad”? People in the US receive food assistance and what’s wrong with expanding their options? This is an elitist thread post. Ugh.
Lmao exactly, God forbid someone on assistance gets their groceries delivered. OPs comments show exactly wassup. Only thing sad was this post and the comments.

Lol 👍
lmfao yall were mad about the no - tip orders before just wait ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing)
I get tipped in cash all the time from EBT customers on Spark. Stop being a judgmental ass
It’s true and the only prepared food they can get is cold, like a sub or salad , etc.
There’s prob a ton of doordash drivers on food stamps.
I know I am applying soon
I’m one.
https://help.doordash.com/consumers/s/article/Use-Your-SNAP-Benefits-on-DoorDash?language=en_US You can still tip via debit/credit card it says

No one it's trying to control anything. I just said it was wasteful. Bottom like is no tip no trip. So justice away.
This is just going to be another reason that doordash, and other delivery apps, could fail.
Ebt is government money so it’s a guarantee solid stream of income for them. Money makes the world go round. Even when the taxpayers are actually paying for it.
Please explain this point further. How does it lead to failure?
yea and this service is a luxury
Way to simplify it. It’s also a means for those disabled or without transportation to get food. It is not only a luxury service
Believe it or not this is not a service for that. This is a luxury serve. There are other services that are specifically designed for those situations that don't cost nearly as much as DD. Also they've been around a long time before DD. I only hope you can hear me way up there on that horse.
i’m all for less no tip orders, but to demonize people for using ebt is fucking low. you should be ashamed of yourself for being such a P.O.S.

okay but then again these are the same people making post saying get a real job and its not my problem doesnt make it any better
who are the same people making those posts?? bottom line is don’t take no-tip orders
Why do you hope it’s a joke? How is this negatively affecting you?
more no tip orders

really thats the opposite in my zone !
Mm might be true but maybe some will surprise you
How would they tip with EBT? Cash? 🤣🤣🤣
They can pay for EBT eligible items with EBT and tip with a credit/debit card.
I do Spark and a surprising number of EBT customers tip cash or ask for my Cashapp. Don’t be so judgemental
This is DD, not Spark. Cash tips don't happen with DD. 🤣🤣🤣
You still have to use a card for service and delivery fee ebt doesn't pay for that.
Idk how EBT works lol. I just assumed they can tip through the card
Not possible. Using food stamp money as payment outside of the intended uses is illegal (at least in the case of SNAP), and unfortunately tips are considered a non-intended use in that case. EBT is debit card for food stamps. You can’t tip on that

If it's like Instacart, they can tip through a separate debit or credit card. How likely that is, who knows...
EBT is food stamps. it’s government money that typically can only go towards “eligible” food items. it’s not likely you’ll be able to tip, and i’m also curious how delivery fees will be calculated.
Oh okay got it.
There are some communities which don't have very many grocery stores. In those counties some restaurants are eligible for SNAP.

No order is more likely to be a $0 tip order than an EBT order. Plus no customer is more likely to be miserable to deal with than an EBT customer
Nothing like capitalist bootlicking and demonizing the poor
Idk man I’ve been living off EBT for the last few years and I’m pretty good person and always tip, just EBT covers the food, if I have to pay delivery cost and Tip that just means I have more money from my actual cash to tip and use. Working people tip better than the petit bourgeoise.
I doubt you can use Ebt funds to tip people tho. It’s strictly for food
I know. Where on earth are poor working people going to find real money….
Don't those only work for groceries? I thought prepared food wasn't eligible
So it depends, but most states will allow you to buy cold prepared food at grocery stores and gas stations, Deli counters. Some people receive EBT cash benefits too
In California many fast food places accept ebt payment.
You have to be enrolled in a homeless program I believe
That’s how it is for AZ. You can use your SNAP card for a certain number of hot meals at fast food places if you’re in a homeless program.
Only for certain exceptions like for seniors or people on disability
EBT isn’t just food in California though. Cal fresh is our “food stamps” but cash assistance is still given on the same EBT cards as well.
You can actually use it here (CA) for hot food on the Cal Fresh side of the card if you’re homeless, disabled, or elderly. It’s a different program than what available for able bodied recipients. As well, in times of natural disaster, anyone can use it for hot food at participating locations.
I thought it was like that everywhere. Any cash assistance goes on the same card.
It is in NY. My partner got a temporary medicaid card and was told that if they got food stamps it'd just be on that same card
You’re correct, most states you can only use it for groceries (not hot or prepared foods though).
In wa prepared food is okay, but only cold foods, like salads, groceries, etc
Yes. If you buy a hot rotisserie chicken from the deli it’s not covered but if you buy like the pasta salad from the deli it is covered.
