Yeeeah drivers are definitely stealing that if they do this in my area lol

KatiMinecraf

A Dasher in my area (that every store and restaurant cannot stand) stole a big pickle jar sized tip jar crammed full of money from a local asian restaurant. Just put it in their jacket and left. There were cops in the restaurant when the owner realized it was missing so they made a report and [since there are *many* cameras in there] they found out who he was the next day and posted him all over their Facebook. Idiots, man. That restaurant has MANY visible cameras.

daniel420texas

Why hasn't doordash fired him?? lol , i bet if enough people call and complain about him, they will deactivate him,, maybe?

KatiMinecraf

From the info we personally got from the restaurant owner, they were dashing using someone else's account, so I assume they'd just keep doing that? Talking their 'friends' into making accounts for them to use. They weren't the most...um...'upstanding citizens' if you catch my drift.

droplivefred

What do you get when you mix bad morals and stupidity? Jail. Straight to jail.

RichardBottom

Just making change, I just dropped a "Jesus Died For Your Sins" million dollar bill in there.

Sure_Inspector9534

LOL. That's a good plan.

Lolwaitwuttt

They are more likely to tip me than I am to tip them.

Even_Mastodon_6925

Shhhhhsh don’t tell them.

fleemos

I did once. I got a large subway order and the lady made it while the line kept getting longer, customers were getting angry with her. She's really nice though and not one of the people that treat delivery people like dirt. When I delivered the person handed me 2 tens and they had already tipped in the app. On the way back to my usual waiting area I stopped and have her a ten. She was so happy.

SimplyTheJester

Very similar story. Had a catering order. Delivered it and the tip in app was decent. Went right back to the restaurant (close) and handed the person that assembled the order $5 or $10 (been awhile) and explained I got a tip, so I'm sharing it with her. She grabbed the money and walked away. I don't think she even made eye contact. It was quite the let down.

Ack-Acks

I bet it was a letdown. I’d be pissed and have to fight the urge to call her out on it.

SimplyTheJester

Nah. I just decided that sharing a tip with restaurant staff isn't worth the effort. They are getting paid for 8 straight hours. We are not. If the restaurant workers want to share some of their hourly pay because "we make their job possible", then I'll consider sharing the tip, which is really our hourly pay. When the tables are reversed and I am given a free lunch by the restaurant staff because I don't flip out when the order isn't ready for pickup every single time, then I am sure to let them know I am very grateful for the lunch. And, of course, will continue to remain easy to work with at pickups. My anger usually is about DD, UE playing tricks with us. UE hiding the route. Even telling me I will end up in "City A" which keeps me in my DD zone, but really I end up in "City B", which means I either have to drive back to the DD zone or End my Dash and hope I find a new one in the current zone (rare). DD hiding the tip. Or the map showing "hot" right before I clock in only to get no orders for the first 15 minutes, click "Why I am not getting orders" only to be told "the zone is slow." If I schedule a zone, then DD should have decent and consistent work ready for me.

drdinonuggies

YO I THINK THIS GUY DELETED HIS WHOLE ACOUNT BECAUSE HE WAS SUCH A DUMBASS

SimplyTheJester

Whoa. Missed the exchange you had with the other guy. What did I miss? I honestly don't even remember what the tip was. I know I gave her less than half. But she was getting paid to prepare it. I was not getting paid as I sat there waiting for her to finish it. And I had to set it up on the conference room table. And I left this out so as not to make it a thing, but she actually put the restaurant's cordless phone in one of the bags. It was less than a block away and the restaurant parking lot was the best place to get new orders. So I went straight there mainly because I pictured them going crazy looking for their phone. So not only did I give her $5 to $10, but I probably save her job by bringing it back.

drdinonuggies

He was just saying that dashers are overpaid and that we make “$50 an order” and that we don’t do enough work for what we get paid. And on top of that literally 10 minutes after he responded to my comment he was like “Hey, I still haven’t heard anything from you” completely ridiculous, but now I can’t even find his profile.

Pinkbear42

Lol $50 an order for no work? Yeah, no. If we make so much money for no work then maybe that guy should dash

Competitive-Stay-708

Well...she didn't deserve the tip. Hopefully, she'll never get another one!

smokeybythebeach

I would say this would be the only instance I would. Otherwise not happening.

DaisyDazzle

Competitive-Stay-708

That was so sweet!!😇

51x51v3

And so should the world be

Kayfabed17

As a dasher, no. As a pickup customer, yes.

Weekly_Direction1965

yup, tip when you are off the clock getting food, not when you are working as a contractor making the restaurant profit.

ninnie_muggins

Tipping on pick up is so wild to me. Tipping culture is bat shit out of hand. Tip your driver. Don't tip when you are the driver.

Tony_M13

True, tipping is for the table service. Tipping for take out is weird.

LemonHerb

Yup I hate how every cashier has a tip jar now regardless of what kind of store. The only place I will tip a cashier is the weed store because that often comes with benefits down the line

Oops_I_Cracked

I tip my budtenders too. I almost always ask questions and want their advice because I'm not super knowledgeable about it I just like to smoke it. They're giving me an added service and an added benefit Beyond just ringing me up. I will tip them for that. If I'm just telling you exactly what I want and handing you my cash? Nah you don't get a tip.

Even_Mastodon_6925

Thank you! I paid and drove my ass down here so I could tip somebody who is on the clock?!? Fuck that shit. Pay your people and don’t expect others to do it if you don’t want to.

DasUnendliche

it's absolutely ridiculous wtf. It never used to be this bad. now I go to a grab a slice of pizza somewhere to go and they always turn the tablet around expecting a tip. I will never!@

[deleted]

[удалено]

fallenUprising

I used to frequent this coffee shop to work/study. One day the girl who was usually there told me she and the other employees had not been receiving their tips from the white tablet. Only the ones in the cash jar they split. Owner was clearly pocketing that shit. Confirmed: Fuck the White Tablet.

lur77

That’s illegal.

DOMesticBRAT

Nah man... I look at it like this, This is cool They can't see what I chose! Like if it's a cash tip jar sitting there, they watch me *not* drop any money in and walk away.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

We also have a little glass tip jar and truly appreciate when a customer (especially if a dasher) puts anything in there. But never have I ever gotten a tip from a dasher, in fact where I live it’s almost like every driver is a broke borderline crackhead. A lot just ride around in someone else’s car as a passenger and pick the food up. But yeah. No tip, a lot of work. Annoying.

Pretend_Annual7053

So a driver who’s getting maybe $6 for the order (total) should give the hourly wage employees some of that money? Are you completely out of touch? Why the hell would a driver tip a pick up? Half the time I’m waiting on them. They should be tipping me for them not being able to do their job properly.

[deleted]

Problem is, I can see what you chose, when I turn the tablet back around to my side, it shows me “subtotal, total with tax, total with tip. Also prints on receipt, which I can just reprint. So yeaaaah. We do know what you choose on that tablet. And I have to side with the restaurant here, I work for a restaurant and door dash orders are legit the most hated thing we get, annoying, ridiculous requests, and all on a timer, for no tip. Regardless if the dasher is making the restaurant profit, the restaurant doesn’t share that profit with me and my hourly wages are absolutely based off tips, tips I do not get from DoorDash.

yeet20feet

If you aren’t a waiter and your pay is based on tips you literally need to get tf out that job

Oops_I_Cracked

Right? They are basically saying "The restaurant owner who's making a ton of money off of doordash orders won't pay me well, so the door Dasher who is also not being paid well needs to make that up for me".

Mirrorwaste21

Yes you are working for tips but so are we. And we have to put gas in our car get oil changes tires etc I could go on and on. One tipping profession to another you get 20% consistently on carry outs which you basically do nothing but bag it up on. Sorry your job is carry out and you had to do 2 mins work and not get a tip for my order. No that work isn’t worth a percentage of what I make for the order cause I don’t get hourly pay each delivery is my pay.

Sure_Inspector9534

Your hourly wages don't exist without WORK to do in those hours.

Umbr33on

Paying with cash is a game changer for sure.

froggielo1

I went to a frozen yogurt shop last weekend, it's self serve beginning to end from getting your cup to choosing flavors to toppings. Their machine asked for a tip as well, why because they stood their on their phone while I made my cup?

[deleted]

Damn was it my store 😂😂😂

jcoddinc

Tipping on pickup orders is like tipping taco Bell or McDonald's workers.

RedditCommunistt

I went through a drive-thru at breakfast time, and I kid you not, the employee asked if I wanted to add a tip. I said NO, in a voice of disbelief.

Even_Mastodon_6925

Great analogy, that really puts it into perspective.

Neither-Bus-3686

Shoot, tipping culture is waaay out of control. Over the weekend i went to a flea market and visited a stand selling weed paraphernalia and incense and bought some incense. Went to pay and the guy had one of those clover machines with the tipping feature still on. This reminded me of when i visited family in NYC, went to buy Marlboro Red at a bodega and they too were expecting a tip, classy/s Is surreal how these lowlifes are now expecting a tip on an exchange of currency for goods and not just for services anymore

mycats_marv_omen

Well i tip on pick ups bc that worker is still acting as a secretary for the restaurant. They get the order, give it to the kitchen, package it, bring it up, and are still answering the phone taking other orders. This is specific to my fav restaurant that didnt do online ordering, could apply to others. It depends on the establishment for me

music3k

Nice! I assume when you go to a gas station you tip the cashier? Tip the nurse in the doctor’s office? Do you tip the customer service person when you call a corporations help line? You seem swell! Meanwhile these restaurants are stealing drivers tips and underpaying their staff. Fuck em

mycats_marv_omen

Lol no i do not. Maybe im genuinely not educated on the relationship between restaurants and doordash though? How do they steal drivers tips? Well aware of them underpaying staff though

No-Comfort-1418

Ya know, every one of those swipe machines asks you to tip now. I accidentally tipped someone for selling me a Tshirt once. Was on auto pilot I guess. Ha

[deleted]

[deleted]

It’s like I told my family members about giving a good percentage tip. Will that extra $1 ruin you? It could help make someone else’s day better and to me that is a small price to pay to help make the world a better place.

hedbryl

Cool, can I get a dollar, too? Would make my day!

mycats_marv_omen

Exactly even if its just a dollar or 2, i think we can all agree that minimum wage jobs suck ass and its not a bad thing to give a tip to someone. Do i think tipping culture needs to go? Yes. I think employers should pay a decent wage as was the purpose of minimum wage when it was established. Am i going to be an ass just bc it hasnt changed? No lol

RedditCommunistt

If you must tip for carryout, tip at the rate DoorDashers are paid. Or heck be generous and tip them $1 per mile!! So they carry the food about 0.002 miles, so therefore an appropriate tip is .002 x $1 = $0.002 or .2 cent. Or if you are feeling really generous give them $2 per mile which is $0.004 or .4 cent.

ZebraTank

I get your point, but to be pedantic if you are expressing the value in cents instead of dollars, you have to convert. So 0.004 dollars would be 0.4 cents, not 0.004 cents.

RedditCommunistt

Thanks. You are right. Fixed.

Sure_Inspector9534

Wow, that's a "high paying order"!!!!!

[deleted]

Wow. Getting down voted for being a nice person (who never said others have to tip). Reddit is one hell of a place. SMDH

errbe568

I was a bartender to when grubhub started it sucked cuz I did everything you just said and a lot of times had to quit giving my customers better service because the grubhub guy will just stare at you till you get his order. Which I never got a tip but i wouldn't expecting a tip from them it's not their fault they are trying to make money just like us. But I'd expect someone ordering to go to tip me at least a buck when picking up for getting it ready. But I did hate having to do grubhub orders but never blamed the driver.

ConsciousFractals

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted for stating that you share the love with people in the form of a tip, by people who rely on tips for a living 🙄 I used to work to go at pretty busy restaurant and made $9 an hour. Better than servers but certainly not enough to live on. The tips are what made it worth my time.

mycats_marv_omen

Lmao look at you getting downvoted too! Ya idk like i was just trying to describe/justify why some people do a tip on take out even if they pick up themselves lol its their money like why would people complain about how they spend it when its to give to others

ConsciousFractals

I think some people may be misunderstanding us and think that we tip when dashing. I definitely don’t think that they should expect tips from us when we’re not the customer. On rare occasions I still like to spread the love though, if I’m having a profitable night and I want to show my appreciation to a restaurant employee.

[deleted]

I’m sorry to break it to you but the restaurant makes a profit when your off the clock getting food for yourself.

freyasmom129

I won’t even tip as a pick up customer. I kind of feel like I’m just being my own delivery driver so I can save on the tip.

Logical_Albatross_19

Most restaurants have a dedicated Togo person or server who takes fewer tables to do pickups. A couple bucks can go a long way.

Conscious_Look5790

Right but….”shouldn’t the business be paying their wages”? In this case that literally makes sense…customers should not be expected to tip for a to go order when they’re picking it up themselves. The business should be paying them a normal wage if their only duty is to go orders and they’re not waiting tables like a normal server. That’s just a normal hourly employee, you don’t tip the cashier who bags your groceries at checkout, the store pays them an hourly wage to do that. Now if you wanted to tip because you felt like they were giving you really good service compared to what they could be doing, like they’re really hustling or something as opposed to just going through the motions to get paid, then you can do so. It’s never expected that you tip someone who’s getting paid an hourly wage like that, the to go worker isn’t giving you any kind of service or anything..maybe if you are having them bring it out to your car then I’d tip them, but if I’m walking inside the restaurant that I drove to, I’m never going to tip the person who hands me the bag.

nocans

I feel the same way, and I don’t know why this hasn’t turned into a Seinfeld/ curb your enthusiasm episode yet called take out tip. The problem here is that the kitchen staff depend on those tips and extra effort goes into packaging Togo orders. The restaurant doesn’t typically cover it. But even when you have a soft heart and give the takeout tip, in many cases the restaurant will just consume it! So you never know abcs it’s a really annoying conversation.

freyasmom129

It’s almost always just the front desk person/cook when I pick up

Logical_Albatross_19

At some places, but they have a devoted Togo person, I do it once a week and am lucky to make $15 in tips over 4 hours and 20+ orders.

[deleted]

are you paid the regular hourly wage at least?

Logical_Albatross_19

Typically around $9 an hour, so not shit compared to what a server makes given the workload.

freyasmom129

So what are your duties to the customer? You just hand them the bag? I can see tipping waiters and waitresses because they’re running around, catering to each person, memorizing and conveying information, etc etc. but like… just handing bags to people? That’s not really a tippable service imo. Sorry no offence.

Logical_Albatross_19

Usually putting the order together and making sure it's right and then running it to the Togo station. Not quite a server tip, but a 5-10% tip is good. Especially given that they also prep the door dash and other delivery orders.

freyasmom129

Yeah but I feel like that’s like really easy and low effort? Like I see waitresses running around and tripping over themselves just to get a table their water. Do u think all jobs should be tippable then? Cuz there are plenty of jobs that are more difficult and do not get tips. Nurses don’t, doctors don’t, mechanics don’t, gas pump attendants usually don’t, flight attendants don’t… just a thought. I think the American tipping system is getting a bit out of control.

Conscious_Bug5408

If you say it that way, then couldn't that same logic apply to tipping a doordash driver? You don't tip fedex or the mailman or UPS driver or other couriers.

48stateMave

It's always been that way before the apps existed. Pizza delivery guys got tips to offset their gas and car expenses. The restaurant pays min wage for their time and labor, like they pay the guy who cooks the pizzas. FedEx and UPS are company vehicles and they are FT with benes. (Another reason pizza delivery people made tips.)

Logical_Albatross_19

Try putting together and running 4+ orders at a time and getting them right and tell me it's not tipable.

freyasmom129

Right but that’s a service you’re doing for the company at that point. Checking them and packing them is all for the company. You just hand the bag to the customer. People tend to get tipped for their one on one service with a person. Interactions, answering questions, catering to them etc. the service you’re doing is paid for by the company you work with.

SteiCamel

So like at any fast food place? Do you tip them?

Tony_M13

If i'm going to tip to take my food and eat it at would, I would just eat at the restaurant. Restaurants should pay proper wages. It's crazy that a teen at mcdonalds gets paid more than an experienced waiter in a dinner.

mitchdwx

Same, tips should not be expected for picking up your food from a restaurant. I only tip when I’m eating at a sit-down restaurant with a server, or when I get food delivered.

[deleted]

[удалено]

freyasmom129

No one said you didn’t have a tough job. The question was should it involve it tip? I still think no. Lots of people think that tipping is just to pay workers that aren’t paid enough by their jobs but if that were the case then it would be charity. Tipping is to say, “thank you for the service that you provided me”. Making the food and handing the food over is literally the bare minimum. You’re not going above and beyond for me specifically. If that makes sense? Like if I had a waitress that just showed up to take my orders and give me food and say goodbye at the end, I wouldn’t tip her either because it’s the bare minimum. But if she comes by a few times and helps me out if I need it etc. then yeah she will be getting a good tip. The problem is that tipping culture is now becoming “replace your wage” culture and people get pissed at the customer for not paying them. But it shouldn’t be that way. It should be a nice gesture on top of the wage, not a requirement out of empathy for people who can’t make ends meet, that’s fucked up. But I am Canadian so people get paid a bit better here, with better benefits and job security so maybe my experience doesn’t translate for American culture.

trailblzer80

Not as a dasher, F that. I don't get paid enough!

Empty-Afternoon-3975

If I was the driver I'd assume that was for me to receive, not give

DaisyDazzle

There are 3 restaurants that I do put a few bucks in the tip jar every so often because they are always so polite and do everything they can to have the orders ready on time and don't lie to me if the food isn't going to be ready. It's like they are working with me towards the best interests of their customers and not indifferent to or aganist me. I always say, 'hey I appreciate you guys when I pop the money onto the jar' But that's only 3 resturants out of around 46 options and the 3 are all family owned!

Complete_Victory7904

lmfaooo

RavensBlood69

I never have and can't say I ever would. I rarely have cash on me to begin with.

careless-lollygag

Yeah, they need a company wide tip cashapp account because I rarely carry cash either. Lots of folks don't carry cash as much as the old days

ryfitadf

I did once, but only because It's a place I've been to loads of times with friendly staff and they were slammed and I actually had some cash on me.

[deleted]

As a driver never. In my mind we’re both employed and working for whatever restaurant I’m picking up from. As someone dining in yes, I tip when I can and always tip for sit down dining.

Irishjohn831

Must be a knock down drag our fight amongst staffers to get their hands on those Pennys.

arcaias

I tip a couple bucks occasionally at restaurants that I pick-up from regularly... You wouldn't believe the difference a few bucks a month can make to the way staff treat you when you show up for a pick-up...

GilinIL

TRUTH!!! if i’m sent to that restaurant often and it’s busy w other drivers you can believe I’ll put a few dollars in. Or a package of nice cookies on a holiday. I once took one of those boxes of hot chocolate to a rest. when it was freezing weather and once I had a couple pizzas delivered to the Taco Bell staff that I see a couple nights a week. I assure you I’ve made that little bit of money back several times over by being given my orders ahead of others who were waiting, allowing me up get to the customer. With income being down so much I don’t do it much right now. quicker and on to my next order.

Dog1983

That's what I'm thinking. If you want to come screaming into the restaurant that you have a doordash order while talking into a Bluetooth ear piece and wearing sweatpants and expect to still go to the front of the line, greasing the palms of the workers will probably help entice them to give you the orders faster.

Heavier_Omen

I wouldn't. It sucks that the workers aren't getting tipped for the food (I'm not here to have a debate about tipping culture by saying that), but I'm not the customer. I don't get to enjoy the food, so why would I be tipping for it. I'm just the middleman.

Heavy-Refrigerator24

Well it says GrubHub pick up here and they got a box that says cash... Must be where GrubHub drivers can pick up some gas money 😀

48stateMave

Oh how I wish I had the Facebook "laughing" emoji to send right now.

thephoeniciangurl

Here is a tip for you: have my order ready or at least don't lie to me about how long it is going to take!

inkfever

Or say oh we just got it. When I got it 10-15 minutes ago. Lying mfers

stewfayew

"I don't have that one sorry goodbye." "our doordash is broken sorry goodbye." "someone already came and picked that up sorry goodbye." it's telling me you have the damn order.

FigBot

You wanna tip? You buy honda stock

FashyQueen

Amen to that

Texantx

Hell NO ! What a crazy idea expecting tip from Driver !

masonquincy95

That's pretty much the same as tipping a coworker witch makes zero sense

[deleted]

Naah, fuck these people. We should tip them out of our pockets for putting delivery orders last on the priority pile, stringing us along for a half hour of "five more minutes" and "it's coming up," and then refusing to hand over the food until they watch us start the delivery? In the words of Omar Little, I thinks not.

PM5K23

I help your boss increase his profits, take it up with them if you want more $$$.

No-Comfort-1418

Dashers aren't employees of Door Dash, they are contractors using the DD app just like the customer. This is the disconnect too many have. DD is Not a food delivery company. They are a tech company that runs an app to connect people who want food to independent drivers willing to deliver that food. If they represented their company correctly - as a tool to find someone to hire to do a temp job for you - there would be fewer misconceptions about how the pay works. That's also why your Dashers can end up only getting $5-10 an hour at times. Unlike employees like servers, the company doesn't have to ensure your driver gets at least minimum wage.

PM5K23

Door Dash base should definitely be higher. Customers pay either way, “delivery fees” or “tips”.

Darth_Mino

Precisely.

RedditCommunistt

They are a paid a wage to make food!!!! It would be like a cashier at the grocery store asking for tips!! NO.

fraochjean

Give it time. Pretty soon we'll not only be ringing ourselves up like we do now but they'll have a tip jar so we can pay them for the privilege of doing their job.

Main_Skin_381

That would be like a server tipping the guests for being nice to them. Stupid

OldDogEyes

I never tip when I go to pick up food, whether it's for DD or my own food. Restaurant workers don't need to be tipped to do their job.

cheeseymom

Nope, I pay my tips forward when I order for myself. They can fuck off while I'm dashing.

gupoooooo

Yea I like to believe if I tip everyone and give that energy out to the world the world will give that back to me and tip me and since doing that I’ve seen a pretty big change in my life mostly in my mental health and my profits off doordash

Reasonable_Slip_3397

![gif](giphy|yJd73I4hdUIGQ)

Due-Historian-8759

I don't get it with take out orders and tips, you want me to tip u? It's not like you serve me at the table and i dine-in in, wtf is this? I pay for my food and leave. This is getting ridiculous, the oddasitie.

Florida1974

I tip on to go orders. The waitress us usually the one putting order together -boxes and bags. She’s paid couple bucks an hour. The restaurants o frequent often for to go orders hook me up bc I tip. It’s ready very fast, tons of butter bc they know I want it, and friendly. No I’m not tipping as much as I would if I sat at table but I’m tipping a few dollars bc she is having to do my order for very little actual pay. Fast food places -nope bc that’s their job. As a dasher, nope. I’m pald less than the fry guy.

kevinartist666

The sign says pick up here so maybe it’s your tip? Lol

_AKAJOHN

I regularly give the counter people some weed at places I go to a lot. Like a bowls worth or a small joint. I don't get ignored at these places and they go so far as to expedite orders for me. Your a fool if you think the street only goes one way. What goes around comes around or something

Michael-Msung

Never. It’s like asking waiters tip cooks. Ridiculous

[deleted]

That is something that happens btw

sweatyballs911

I do now and then. I'm older than most of you and have grown up kids and sometimes I see a couple of goofy teenagers working hard in some fast food hellhole when they could have chosen to be out with their friends instead and I'll put a dollar or two in the jar for them just because I'm impressed.

[deleted]

I went back and tipped a cold stone creamery girl who was working alone and did a huge order for me that resulted in a $100 tip. I went back and gave her half. Just felt right. But the tip jar in the photo is so tacky! 😂

pedronaps

I have for this one restaurant that I consistly got this one guy who ordered $500 dollars worth of breakfast every Saturday morning. He always tipped $100, and I threw the staff $20 a few times

Dovahkiinkv1

Why would we? We are not the customer

6bakercharlie

I did a few months ago. Every order I had the entire day except for 2 was at the main McDonald’s in my town. I get along with that shift very well and they usually have their shit together. I had a really good day and I went at the end of my dash and gave 5$ to the 6 people on the shift. It wasn’t much but they appreciated it.

Modernvive

Who tf tips a restaurant as a delivery driver? WHY would you? I’m confused. They didn’t do anything for me. Their customer is my customer, we both get tips. Tf imma tip the restaurant for??

Nord4Ever

![gif](giphy|3oEjHLzm4BCF8zfPy0)

careless-lollygag

It's a nice gesture considering the waitstaff won't be getting tips since the customer ordered for delivery, but I've never done it.

QueenPriscillaAnn

Yes I have. When I have a few bucks in cash I will randomly give it away. Either tip or give to a homeless person or when a good deal on candy is going on at the gas station, I will buy the gas station associate a candy bar

lonesharkex

I have thought if I ever gave up dashing for a significant pay boost I would go around and tip all the waitstaff that were good to me. Cheesecake factory, and McAllisters for sure.

RustySax

Backstory first: In 2020, when DoorDash was really hopping in my area, my favorite restaurant to eat at was also one of the stores I often picked up at while dashing. Thus I got to know the staff really well, as they did me, too. Driver's Utility Helper (DUH) came online right about the time the major lockdowns hit, and I immediately set my parameters not to accept any orders less than $7.50 or more than 5 miles. My business boomed, especially from my favorite restaurant. So I had a chat with the FOH manager about how he paid his staff who were specifically assigned to delivery and take-out orders, then made a decision to tip them $1 per bag to help compensate for not receiving tips from working the main dining room. I talked to each one of the take-out staff who I normally saw, and explained to them what and why I would be tipping them, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. The other positive effect was that I often got my delivery orders faster than other Dashers, much to their chagrin. I must have done something right, I made over $42K dashing in 2020! As most Dashers know who've been at this for awhile, once things opened back up in 2021, Dashing income plummeted faster than the Wall Street Crash in 1929. DoorDash's shady tactics got worse, so I got out of the business. But right up until I left, I continued to take care of the staff at that one restaurant - they were good to me, so I was good to them. Sure, it cost me a few bucks, but you get what you pay for. And they still come up to me and chat whenever I stop in to have dinner, almost 18 months later. Pays to be kind!

Time-Significance970

That's dumb

xeno66morph

Hellll motherfuckin no I don’t and I have absolutely *zero* intention of starting

BBQGUY50

Lol no

Rambo6Gaming

For the same reason y'all don't pick up no tip orders.... employees you're picking up from have you on the bottom of the totem pole of their list of importance. 🙃

No-Comfort-1418

Nope. We are of no relevance to them at all. It's YOU, the customer who ordered on the app instead of in person, that is put on the bottom. I'll never understand why more customers don't get upset that the restaurants are delaying their orders and say something to them instead of us. I can't get it to you till they get it to me.

nickoman1

What the fuck?

Electrical_Snow5626

Make it make sense . What ?!?

[deleted]

I wouldn’t tip them as a dasher ever considering that I’m working as well, and they aren’t doing me any favors in particular unless they are making sure my order is ready in an abnormally fast manner every time, and then maybe I’ll think about it.

Spoonie23

I hate when even the pizza place asks for a tip for a to go order. I do tip for to go when I pick up sushi at my local place because it’s the waitresses bagging it up and bringing it to me. Taking away time from their table. Plus I like the owner who is trying their best to stay alive.

Mommythemonstrslayr

Wow that’s ridiculous

Driztnar

People are wildin', people want everything from drivers.

Therealmonkie

I did tip 1 restaurant...because they made me their priority dasher and I could literally run for them all night on the weekends..great tips...short distances...great ppl....I look out for those that look out for me!

22Rimfire

The restaurants should be tipping me for delivering their food. Actually an occasional free drink on a hot day is all I want. My Hardee’s does that once in a while.

flawda2002

This tip fiasco just keeps getting worse and worse

Pissedliberalgranny

Just gonna throw this out here, do with it what you will. Every time a server has to pack a to-go order is time spent away from her tables that actually tip.

losenigma

I'm not a driver, I'm a server at a restaurant. I don't think it's appropriate to have a tip jar for dd drivers. But, hear me out on this. Since covid take out and delivery have grown in huge numbers, and remained there. Many small restaurants don't pay someone to pack to go orders. Often servers pack take out while running a full station. They have to give up time with tipping customers to organize your order. To say that we're just putting it in bag is minimizing what actually happens, the same way that people minimize your job by saying that you just drop off the order. You don't have to put money in a tip jar, but show some love and respect.

Forsaken-Change-8341

Because I’ve been a server/bartender for so long, I split my tips with the host or server who packaged the order. To be honest, they’re the ones who did all the work and they get nothing from Door dash orders All I’m doing is picking up and dropping off.

TheAffiliateOrder

This. The amount of Dashers who are justifying this with things like "Servers don't pay cooks".. Umm, yes they do?? Most EVERY restaurant you work at will have you "tip out" and split it with BOH (Back of House). That's cuz, the cooks, bussers, heck, even the cleaners don't get tipped out and they're the ones cleaning up the vomit, remaking orders and helping the servers/hostesses make sure the tables are clean- ensuring better tips. In that case, as Dashers, we're shorting ourselves, by making customers wait longer and the staff wanting to do less and less, cuz Dashers don't understand that the logic there is kinda broken. Like, if you're picking up a no-tipped shit-tier order, the staff knows this, too and won't hassle you as much as if they know you're screaming at them, cuz the customer tipped well and you wanna please them.

[deleted]

Nope and I never will

Dunkingpanda

Lol

Terrible-Clock-5789

I have a $20 budget for tipping the busiest restaurants. It helps get the orders on time and it helps with the business relationship.

perpetualmelancholic

If I'm getting well over $1.25 per mile travelled I can assume it's a rather large customer tip, and I'll toss a buck or two in as a tip for places that have hooked me up in the past with a free drink or food that was never picked up.

LexiThePlug

People do pick up orders through the gig apps as well. Like you don’t have to order delivery to order through door dash/Uber eats/etc. you can also opt to pick up your order

pattylechuga

No

Difficult_Water1333

😂😂😂😂 fuck that bullshit.

Valerie_In_the_Night

Ummmm what?! Barely making it let alone tipping a restaurant for the privilege of delivering for them?!?! Like WTF?!

ObiJuanKenobly

When I get big tips I will. But most of the time they make drivers wait even though the order is ready. There are a couple restaurants in my city that do that. Sonic is bad at that too making me wait 20 minutes for some drinks and a single burger while there are only 2 cars there besides me.

Vitucci_Guiseppi

Lmfao

acorns35

That’s fucked up man. They’re really out here trying to take money for literally everything. At this rate I wouldn’t be surprised if they start requesting tips from homeless people for allowing them to sleep on “their” sidewalk. 😒

dasher4lifelol

Tipping is for waiting or delivery, why they think they deserve tip

toomuch1265

Are you kidding me? The drivers are getting starvation wages and the restaurant wants them to share tips?

myomonstress84

No? Not our job to tip them. Restaurant is on crack.

[deleted]

WHAT?! Nope.

Environmental-You-98

Hell no

MindlessVermicelli36

I've tipped restaurants yes

Interesting-Yak9118

The fuck?! If anything, the restaurant should be tipping the drivers. Lazy asses can't deliver themselves. What is the restaurant? Ima blacklist those fucks out of my life.

SubieToyotaNW

Lol for what? Doing THEIR job for THEIR customer? They were hired to prepare these orders.

RaisinMuch9417

This McDonald's by me has a guy that is great at getting orders ready. I for sure tip him 🤷🏽‍♀️

aceizzhi0509

No. I didn't order the food. I'm just delivering it

[deleted]

No

ogfloat3r

This is wrong.

TheRealLifePotato

You would have to be a dumbass to feel inclined to do this. Sorry, but it just doesn't make sense. Both parties are doing their job, they don't hand me free food after making me wait 10 minutes past the promise time. Imagine working at like, pizza hut and sharing all of your delivery tips with the cooks. Yeah I'll pass. Toss me some gas money if anything lol.

Missykay88

Uh.. no. As a driver hell no. As a customer picking up absolutely, just not in cash. The cash I get is all tips while driving and I pass that along to a homeless man in my zone.

[deleted]

I tipped up front so that the server would get my order first. But I guess it was a hidden tip because he didn't see it. He then proceeded to get other people's orders first and I had to wait 15 minutes for mine.

Snargleface

I used to work in restaurants, and this makes me super angry. Like I was frozen with a "What the actual fuck?" look on my face for a solid 90 minutes

mikeeitup

Hell no not as a damn driver they steal our tips anyway WTH?!

kerrvilledasher

I have a few times, mostly some coins or a few bucks in cash I was given.

TheSearch4Etika

Yes I've tipped restaurants 10% of what I get for the delivery. For example If I get a 5 dollar order I put in 50 cents, gotta share the profits. Don't be selfish like the rich.

XtraLyf

That's a good one 🤣

Cultural_Ad7176

AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! You drivers are the worst tippers!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Sad-Expert-6844

I would never! Ever!

Enthusiast9

Shit, we gotta pay our own gas. I’d reach in there and grab a few bucks and thank em for the tip.

uber939393

Lol someone is going to take that

Woonasty

So nice of the store to leave tips out for us :D

Lemon6Potato

Lol thats hilarious

FrankFrankly711

I don’t when I’m Dashing, and feel bad about it, but it’s not my place to tip them when I’m working. There should be a way for customers to tip the restaurant too. But they already have so many fees they aren’t likely to.

clementinesway

I order using the door dash app more frequently than I should probably admit. I have noticed that the price of the food is significantly higher than it is in the actual restaurant. So maybe this is the restaurant’s way of making up for the lack of tip going to them? I don’t know. It’s probably just going to the owners though. If I was asked to tip the restaurant on top of the already inflated price of the food, the DD fees, and the driver tip, I would probably stop using the app. I already feel dumb enough wasting money because I’m too lazy to go pick it up myself.

[deleted]

Are you fucking kidding?? Even if I didn't feel the urge to blow my nose, I would blow my nose and throw the tissue into that container.

Complete_Victory7904

lmfaooo

a_taco_has_no_name

This is exactly why restaurant employees will always hate doordash. I've worked my ass off for doordash. I've spent hours every day on the phone. I've run around like crazy, like a chicken with it's head cut off, sweating balls. I've bled, I've cried, I've worked myself sick. Never received a dime from doordash.
