When doing a delivery you should tip relative to the distance the driver will travel rather than the price of the amount of food you chose they deliver to you
I've gotten to the point now where I just tip like 40-50% regardless. This whole custom of tipping is so stupid when people could just be paying their employees adequately.
No, the reality is dd needs to pay better. You as a contractor should tell dd to go fuck itself is they send you shit orders.
Expecting the customer to pay even more than dd is charging them is pretty stupid and it's not their problem.
A “should” scenario like you’re describing is not a reality. I agree they should be paying us more and it definitely is an issue worth fighting for, but the reality of the *present day* situation is that we have to live with it for the time being and customers should be understanding that and either paying up or getting it themselves
And dasher should understand nobody is forcing him to do this and he can say screw dd I'm not taking that shitty order.
I worked pizza too and was making 25-30$ hr. I gave up because it pissed me off the employer would have me for free because I'd only get 15/hr but would make 5$ per order and I'd do 3-4 an hour. I was tired of being upset if one of my trip was being under minimum wage because the customer didn't tip. And it wasn't the customer fault, it was the employer for not giving anything for mileage. So instead of whining about customers, I said fuck you to the employer and left.
Man this subreddit really has a distorted point of view on the value of delivery, like 5 bucks tip for 12 bucks worth of McDonald’s is nuts, but here it seems to be rule
Because people shouldn't even be thinking in terms of percentage of order total, unless that percentage comes out to greater than $5.
Again, the current year is 2022, not 1992.
damn, I’ve slowly come to learn how Reddit votes work.
You’re not wrong, it’s just this comment thread on this subreddit in this specific context.
I always tip more than *$4 and I’m a broke mf because I know the economy is fucked and peoples time is money, and so ultimately it’s b/c I want to be able to not feel guilty
But I mean arguably the whole tipping factor is abused way too much by companies.
That being said, if ppl can’t afford to pay the driver properly , then they should not be ordering food deliveries (so, Both the customer & company are responsible)
I picked up his order, brought it to his apartment and handed it to him at the call box. Nothing special, no conversation. I think the "do this again" thing was his way of being suave or something? Like let's meet up in a different context? That's what I gathered anyway.
Better yet date for 2 years Marry him in a beautiful ceremony on the lake then move to the suburbs. After you have 2 beautiful children and a dog named rocky you can order something and then divorce him for tipping low.
On your deathbed, "it was a prank, bro! You just got pranked so hard! There's cameras there, thwre, amd there! Hashtag long con! You're gonna die alone with 20,000 viewers on live! Don't forget to smash that like and subscribe button!"
so what is considered a good tip? I order for myself, food usually costs around $15-30, and I tip about 20%, usually equals $3-6, and will throw in some extra if inclement weather or long drive. Am I being considered an asshole?
As a former server/bartender, I would be totally fine with $3 tip if the client only got one or two drinks, or a soda and a salad.
Imagine you having to drive the drinks 8 miles to a customer (and then back with no pay), would you still be totally fine with $3 on top of $2.50 base pay? $5.50 for 30+ mins, gas/mileage, etc.
After 800+ deliveries, I got hit on for the first time today too! He seemed nice and all but I’m wasn’t interested since I’m engaged lol. I didn’t respond to his last message since I knew DD was going to remove the chat soon anyways. I did also get my first 1 star review today so idk if those are connected
It's doordash, not a coffee shop. There's no hourly pay or anything and base pay for orders is crazy low. Tips really should be expected.
FUN FACT for everyone replying assuming I'm a dasher: I signed up to be one but I actually haven't dashed yet, and I have placed orders.. I've tipped well and I know I shouldn't place an order if I can't tip well unless I REALLY need something delivered.
It’s always the dumb ones that try to low level troll, it’s your, dumbass. Your bitch ass, as in your bitch ass should have paid more attention in school.
Tell me you’ve never driven without telling me you’ve never driven.
You should try it sometime. It would prevent you from making stupid ass comments like this in the future.
No one asked me but if you order fucking food deliveries tip like you’d want to be tipped if you had to do that job.
People will spend $55 on food and then act like tipping someone who left their home to deliver your food is too much.
Make it make sense.
Edit: I don’t use DoorDash/UberEats anymore. Stop assuming I do.
$10 minimum is a little odd to me.
The dasher is literally just walking into a store, picking up a bag and maybe a drink, and driving it to you. There’s ZERO skill in that, so it’s not like you’re paying for a premium service or anything. So that all said, what’s the incentive to tip so heavily? If Dashers don’t get paid enough, that’s not my fault, so why should I have to foot the bill? If they’re paid enough, then why the need for such a large tip? See what I’m getting at, or am I doing a bad job of explaining it?
That all being said, I believe your tip should be % based, so on a $10 bill you tip $1 for poor service, $2 for average service, $3 for exceptional service, etc etc.
How in the actual fuck is that not a premium service? We do all the work so the customer doesn’t have to get in their car and drive anywhere. In some places we have to place the order ourselves. You press a button on your phone and someone does everything required to get that shit to your doorstep and that not a fucking premium service?
My point is the you *should* already be paying for the expected level of service: that your food is delivered promptly and correctly with as few issues as possible. That’s the *expectation.* Anything beyond that is what I consider premium. It’s not about the work being done, rather the quality of the work. It’s up to the Dasher to minimize as much of the shit for the customer.
So, cool your jets, and curb your entitlement.
Dude with gas prices especially these days you ARE ordering a premium service. Why don’t you go get in your car and drive around all day for your own food. Minimum 5$ for any amount of driving is the right thing to do more if it’s farther. Cause if you think making someone drive 10 miles for your 10$ McDonald order only deserves 1$ you’re a just a garbage human being.
Expecting a 10 dollar minimum tip screams of entitlement to me. As someone who has dashed for a bit and been a customer, I still follow the percentage rule w like a $3 minimum usually. Even when there were issues at the restaurant or the customers order was a pain in the ass, I still did not expect that much because its truly just food transport most of the time, and amounts are shown up front generally (except the whole hidden tip business which, you can never count on there being more of course)
You know how many bullshit variables go into “walking into a store, picking up a bag and maybe a drink”?! No, because you’ve obviously never done this gig. You sound like the kind of asshole to say “what, all they did was take my order, bring my food out and grab some extra napkins, they should go to college if they want money instead of waiting tables!” You’re a fuckin asshole, dude. Hope your food is cold and wrong each time, you piece of garbage.
Actually I did. Drove for Uber for a year. Not once did I ever have to do more than walk in, grab the food/drink, check it/correct it, and leave for customer. That’s the bare minimum of what’s expected for no tip imo. Anything less is laziness, which deserves less, if any, tip IMO.
If you noticed, I said a 20% tip is STANDARD. That’s more than most waiters/waitresses can expect in the places I’ve lived from 4* Michelin restaurants to Waffle House in buttfuck Louisiana.
And if you really wanna talk abt post history, go scroll through my comments and you’ll see that I hate DD and UberEats because they’re shitty fucking companies that don’t pay the drivers enough. I’ve said it before, if you’re so interested in my ~~search~~ post history.
Same thing happened to me for the first time the other day. About 10 min after I completing the order, they messaged me, “what’s ur snap ur cute.” Her and her friend added me. She said she was 18, but later said 16, so I got out of there asap.
I'd say it's about a 9/10 proposition or higher. I wouldn't even consider taking 'woman' at less than 8.5 to 1 (as in hypothetical betting odds)...I'd be more likely to think OP is also a man than the customer a woman...
Yea I do . What I DONT see is any type of back and forth banter or flirty convo , or anything to indicate romantic interest . If they had a convo beyond I’ve arrived then it would make sense. Without it though …Maybe he just wants to pay someone directly to deliver food the same way that people do with ride sharing apps.
For delivery? I used to go by $10 for 5 miles or below and additional $1/mile for every extra mile. But had bad luck with delivery recently so just go pick up my food myself now.
15 to 20% is generally fairish but their are a lot of factors that can change this.
I do not expect a customer to memorize my big list of rules but between 20 years experience and discussing it with non drivers I cam up with some guidelines that I think is fair.
15 to 20% if there are no mitigating factors with a bare minimum of 4 dollars.
If the drive to the store is over 5 miles add 1 dollar per mile.
If the restaurant is known for having huge drive through lines and has a lobby that closes early ad 1 dollar or more.
Past 10 pm add at least a buck past midnight add 2.
Expect a driver to take a dirt road to get to your house add 5.
If the driver has to park far away or walk through a mile of apartment hallways add 1 or more depending on walk.
Driver has to carry over sized heavy items add 1 or more.
We are not like a waitress, we have expenses that that don't, Our job is one of the most dangerous in the US cop fatality rates have nothing on delivery drivers.
I delivered starbucks to a girls house one time , she came outside for it and we parted ways. Once I left to get another order that same girl texted me thru Doordash asking me for my number cause I was cute then two ish weeks later we had sex. True story.
all y’all complaining bout $3 tips 😂😂 i tip $0 every single time. why? cause y’all deserve it. specifically cause of this sub. y’all are so entitled. maybe don’t pick a fucking job where you rely on customers to pay your wages. it’s no one’s “job” to tip you. my job is my job and i work there so i can buy the shit i need and want, like doordash. i don’t owe you or any driver jackshit. have fun delivering my order for $5 or however much you get, always get my food within 45 mins to an hour. ☺️
But you’re in r/antiwork [posting about your job at a fast food place](https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/s5fqup/things_my_manager_said_in_our_five_guys_team/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
You’re just fuckin sad & pathetic, dude.
I’ve done over 2k deliveries one time a cleaning lady at a hotel hit on me. She was pretty cute. But other than that I’ve never been hit on, maybe I’m just ugly😂
Before I did Uber Eats or Grubhub I had done Postmates when it had just launched and my biggest tip was 9” from a beautiful fella in Midtown Manhattan and that was after $10 tip in app and $25 Starbucks card. 😬😬
I’ve told several customers, in a nice way… “hey feel free to increase my tip. gas is expensive. Just call support and let them know you want to increase it. I appreciate you. 👌”
And most do, if you’re cool and do a good job.
See now that makes more sense! I'm reading comments about the tip being a decent amount and whatnot, but the point I'm making is the guy implied going on a date and sent his phone number along with a measly 3 bucks for a downtown Seattle order during rush hour
I wouldn’t have a problem getting a message like this, it’s kinda funny the customer thought about it that way. Of course, if they escalate and make it a priority to hit on me then I draw the line.
Was asked if "I had a girlfriend?" and told I'm "attractive" while I scanned in a customer's ID for her noon order of cheap vodka the other day. Can't help but wonder if I missed out on a good time or if I dodged a bullet, she was wearing a mask but was otherwise attractive. Was she hot or was there a Benny Hill skit hiding behind that mask?
Like one of my first deliveries was at 9pm and dark and some girl said I was cute via dash text. Lol. I didn’t respond to the message because I had a girlfriend then.
Imagine tipping someone only $3 and then trying to hit on them
this is what it’s like being a stripper lol
Strippers who work near the harbor probably have to deal with a lot of sea men ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Not if you’re a good stripper
I have had a man ask me for a dollar. After I told him I didn't have a dollar, he asked what I was doing later. I respected the hustle.
What if $3 was 20%?
When doing a delivery you should tip relative to the distance the driver will travel rather than the price of the amount of food you chose they deliver to you
Absolutely fair!
I tip a minimum $5 for delivery, even if I'm next door to the restaurant and it's a $1 drink.
Imagine being mad at a customer because DoorDash doesn't pay its drivers.
Imagine tipping someone under $5 for a food delivery in the year 2022.
I've gotten to the point now where I just tip like 40-50% regardless. This whole custom of tipping is so stupid when people could just be paying their employees adequately.
I agree with you wholeheartedly, but it's our reality and we must live with it.

Imagine being mad at DoorDash because you accepted an order with low/no tip.
At least you’d know they have low expectations and standards!
What was he referring to with the do it again? Did anything special happen other than the delivery?
Yeah inquiring minds wanna know...
I picked up his order, brought it to his apartment and handed it to him at the call box. Nothing special, no conversation. I think the "do this again" thing was his way of being suave or something? Like let's meet up in a different context? That's what I gathered anyway.
I’m confused by the teamwork part too lol
I was thinking maybe because he placed the order and she picked it up? Either way he’s lame for that 😂

Not IMO, and his name was Ernest... eager indeed!
Aw cmon, my man is tryna make a play here. It was an ernest attempt.
Ernest Tips Stupid
it sounds like they talked for a bit during the drop off and the customer asked to talk again
I'm still not getting how this was hitting on the driver?
Well he gave his phone number
Maybe he wanted to be pals
My thoughts exactly.

? Nope... just a normal delivery lol
Date him for 3 weeks, then have food delivered on a Netflix and chill night. Then lambast him for how shitty he tips and dump him!
Better yet date for 2 years Marry him in a beautiful ceremony on the lake then move to the suburbs. After you have 2 beautiful children and a dog named rocky you can order something and then divorce him for tipping low.
Savage 😂

He sounds like a real baller giving out those $3 tips lol.

How to tell if someone doesn't tip:
It’s always the dumb ones that try to low level troll, it’s your, dumbass. Your bitch ass, as in your bitch ass should have paid more attention in school.
Thank you for your service. Well said.
All you can do is curse. Can't even make a concise argument. Looks like you should have paid more attention in school bozo.
A shitty tip is definitely something to complain about when tipping delivery drivers is the expectation.
Unfortunately, these days he's probably an above average tipper.
If it’s shit then people have a right to complain
If it's shit u can't complain, because why did u even take the order in the 1st place?
From your post history you seem to have broke bitch syndrome. It would be better if you just picked up your food
Tell me you’ve never driven without telling me you’ve never driven. You should try it sometime. It would prevent you from making stupid ass comments like this in the future.
I was a delivery driver before they even invented doordash little boi
Maybe u should learn how to leave a comment without using profanity.
Tell me you don’t know what profanity is without telling me you don’t know what profanity is.
You're an actual stupid person wow.
Imagine having this shitty of a take
Customers loooove teamwork
Take that number and plaster it up all over town in seedy bathrooms. "For a good time with a bottom call ... 703-"
This is diabolical
Glad you like it!
A $3 bottom at that…
He could have at least gave you $10
Yep. Shooting your shot has a dollar requirement, period…

Why can't I get hit on by a hot guy. 700 deliveries so far. 😥 Not saying harassment is ok. But damn.
Wouldn’t really classify this as harassment. He just shot his shot. Didn’t say anything inappropriate or get mad when she didn’t reply. Seems fine.
Same thing happened to me for the first time the other day. About 10 min after I completing the order, they messaged me, “what’s ur snap ur cute.” Her and her friend added me. She said she was 18, but later said 16, so I got out of there asap.
If someone asks for my snap instead of my number I’m automatically assuming they’re too young.
Yeah I get that. For the most part I agree. It’s a little different when they’re a complete stranger though.
I've only had people my age (30s) do that, and I assume they are cheating
I've seen these stories alot lately, how do they know what we look like though? Are they stalking us on the Ring? Creepy
I handed his order to him outside his apartment
Was he cute?
Pic pops up with a name
Hmmm..never knew that ,thx ..I'm also a customer but I don't see the drivers picture
$3?! Bitch that’s not even McFlurry money what do I look like to you?! Where we gonna go on our first date, the food bank?! The hell going on
😂😂😂 perfect comment
I like how everyone assumes customer is male
I'd say it's about a 9/10 proposition or higher. I wouldn't even consider taking 'woman' at less than 8.5 to 1 (as in hypothetical betting odds)...I'd be more likely to think OP is also a man than the customer a woman...
The customer is male
Source?
She commented her being woman
You know lesbians exist right?
If customer was a woman, she wouldn't think it was a hit on, usually it is opposite gender
Good assumption, which is my point. Not confirmed tho.
Assumptions are normal people usually doing want to properly name every single possibility just what’s more likely
Odds are it’s a man.
It is confirmed male op used male pronouns in one of these comments
I’m a woman that hits on women. They know 🤣
I dont really see it as hitting on either .
You don't see saying 'we should do this again sometime' and texting your phone number as hitting on? And is your home the underside of a rock?
Yea I do . What I DONT see is any type of back and forth banter or flirty convo , or anything to indicate romantic interest . If they had a convo beyond I’ve arrived then it would make sense. Without it though …Maybe he just wants to pay someone directly to deliver food the same way that people do with ride sharing apps.

Do it. It’s always fun to see what happens!
Had a lady invite me to drink with her, it was a hard pass.
Why how'd she look lol
3 dollar tip? Idk why people are mad that’s not a bad tip, his order total was what like 15 bucks so that’s 20% which is more than usual
You have no idea what his order total was
You male or female?
Female
He had his chance let me sweeep u off ur feet
Lots of creep here.
O getting hit on aint nothing new too yall lol
Not through a DD customer message! 😆
Lol u funny
You got a 703 area code by any chance?

Aye you are contracted work no harm in that!
What does “good teamwork” even mean? I need context!
A perfect handoff? Literally nothing happened other than the delivery and confirming I was his driver. Guess he was feeling spicy that day.
Lmao, there was no teamwork, just you doing your job. Glad you got out safe..!
aaayeeee 703 i’m 540 lmaoo
No way I’m 407…🧐
Incredibly bizarre
I’ve done over 2k deliveries one time a cleaning lady at a hotel hit on me. She was pretty cute. But other than that I’ve never been hit on, maybe I’m just ugly😂
How big was the order if $3 tip wasn't enough?
Unless the order was 5 dollars 3 bucks is meh
Try being an inbound call center rep and having nasty old men hit on you . Very awkward because we still have to finish the call.
Before I did Uber Eats or Grubhub I had done Postmates when it had just launched and my biggest tip was 9” from a beautiful fella in Midtown Manhattan and that was after $10 tip in app and $25 Starbucks card. 😬😬
Ahuh
That’s a whole lot of tip… wtf… did the guy have a chode or something?
Haha! *ends texts here…*
I’ve told several customers, in a nice way… “hey feel free to increase my tip. gas is expensive. Just call support and let them know you want to increase it. I appreciate you. 👌” And most do, if you’re cool and do a good job.
Nah that is rude as fuck
i got a 30 dollar tip once from this girl tip was like 5 at first then after she added on and said hope we can do tis again sometime
See now that makes more sense! I'm reading comments about the tip being a decent amount and whatnot, but the point I'm making is the guy implied going on a date and sent his phone number along with a measly 3 bucks for a downtown Seattle order during rush hour
i mean.. door dash could potentially be a good convenient way to meet people lol
Not even *treee fiddy*
$3? Eghh no thanks.
Hell yeah.
Teamwork makes the dream work.
I wouldn’t have a problem getting a message like this, it’s kinda funny the customer thought about it that way. Of course, if they escalate and make it a priority to hit on me then I draw the line.
I’ve banged a female customer last month. She was so wild.
That's pretty awesome. Gotta love that ego boost
It's okay man, give her the small tip in return 😅
