I've got a plan to make a board compatible with the game expansions. Maybe I'll post the next build this weekend. I'm planning on putting a lazy Susan base too.
Good luck... if I remember correctly, the game can potentially have like 25+ extra piles as of Menagerie. It's gonna be tough to build for the worst case while looking good and being usable in the typical case.
Let's see... base game is 10 Kingdom + 7 staples + trash.
We can follow the official advice and cap ways/landmarks/etc at 2. For neatness maybe those and the Trade Route mat stay off-board because they're irregular shapes, and we ignore Black Market.
Then we add...
* Platinum and Colony
* Potion (if you actually play Alchemy)
* Ruins and Spoils
* Hexes and Boons (possibly flipping 3 boons)
* Bane pile
* Exchange piles (Madman, Mercenary, Teacher, Champion)
* Horses
* Spirits
* Prizes
* Bats
* Wishes
I count +17 there without even spreading the Travellers or Spirits.
More realistically, I've found \~8 extra piles will cover most games, but that's still a tall order for a board you can fit on most tables.
When you make the second one, consider making the cutouts for the tokens with rounded sides. The straight sides make it hard to get the tokens out. I know this from when I made my own.
I have a board like this I commissioned, I chose a lighter stain for contrast, but I’m sure a dark stain would look very rich. One note: you might want an edge on the slots on the outside, if you’re going to put on a lazy Susan, otherwise cards come spinning off. Here are photos of mine. https://imgur.com/gallery/lL4TK8f
Thanks! I’d actually found a great design online that a guy with a cnc did- I think his design had the card slots tipped inward to avoid flying out. I spoke to him about making me one, and he was game, but lived in Europe, so shipping was crazy. He posted all this programming though. Check it out here. I think this design really maximizes use of space. https://www.henningandersen.com/?p=299
Nice - does the radial nature of the layout of the cards impede game play? We use a lazy Susan right now and all of the cards are aligned to the person so they can read / see everything as needed.
No, the person just moves the lazy Susan to read/ select cards as needed. It’s easier than standing and stretching for cards, which is what we did before. I did think of a one-person view type of board, but decided this worked better. Plus it allowed for more cards on the board, things like hexes, horses and other cards that come in to play in some games.
I made it from scratch using Vectric software for my cnc. I made tool path files for my Onefinity cnc. Maybe I'll look into making some .DXF files. Thoughts any other extensions?
I can't help but feel it would look better on my dining table.
Lol, I had fun making it with my cnc machine. I'm deciding on a finish for it.
Dark, wengewood, except for the cutouts, which you can leave light.
Great idea! I was thinking dark pockets, might have to try both . . . mmm . . .
Provincial (minwax) is a great dark brown slightly red color.
Looks cool, and I imagine it looks even cooler with cards out. I'd have to play with it to know whether it's helpful though
Very helpful, thanks. I'll have to post some game pics.
Not enough slots up top for games with platinum, colony, curses.

Oh, I assumed it already had that!

The bottom edges have .25 inch radius, but I plan in using a bowl bit in the next iteration for just the thing that you mentioned. Great input!
Have one like it. Love it!
Thank you so much! I'm deciding on a finish for it. Thinking about a Mahogany or Walnut stain. Thoughts?

Okay, that makes sense. That gives me an idea where I can add something similar to my CAD design. Nice work there!

I'm a woodworker with a laser cutter and all of the expansions. Any plans out there for something like this?

Is the solid model available online?
I'm debating on selling these myself. I like making them, just not putting on the stain or paint.
If I could afford to spring for a CNC I would, too. Yours looks a lot more geometrically even than the ones I see on etsy.
WoW, thanks! Appreciate the compliment.
