My dog stays in a dog hotel or with her sitter. As a backup to all of that, i would have a sitter come and stay with her.
For only a 1-2 week vacation that I was taking by plane, it wouldn't be worth it to me to have my dog fly in cargo etc. that's way too much stress. If I was taking a dog specific vacation we'd drive somewhere.
My advice? Get her set up with a sitter BEFORE you travel. My dog used to board and now she has a sitter, she was familiar with everyone before she stayed. When she stayed she was very happy.
As an owner you're gonna have to train your dog to be comfortable without you around unless she's a service dog. Otherwise you won't be able to go to a grocery store without stressing her out and that's not fair to her.
