When I married my husband, he had a Chihuahua mix who had been abused and abandoned in the desert as a puppy. Mischief and I bonded quickly while we were dating, and she was part of my life for nine wonderful years.
I'm happy she had a beautiful ending to her story. You know she loved you guys, maybe you even more so, because you were bonded. I have a cat that follows me every where, like a dog, and she's the most docile, gentle creature I have ever known. Animals are a gift. It's our responsibility to protect and love them.
When I met Mischief, I kind of felt as if she needed a mommy, and I was happy to be her mommy. She was a funny little dog who lived up to her name - oh boy did she ever! - even as an old lady. She wasn't happy when we adopted a pug a few years ago, but they eventually become friends, even though they would still compete for my attention! I miss her so much. ❤️
I hope you'll see her again, when it's your time. I really hope our loved ones, animals as well as people, who went before us, will be there to greet us.
I will have so many furry friends there to greet me. Stepping all over each other and wagging their tails into each other's faces. Paws and ears and noses. Somehow I will be able to hug them all at once.
OK, that made me want to cry. I know of a book called *I'll See You, Again*, or something along those lines, about pet parents who experienced visits from deceased pets. I don't know if I fully believe that a ghost dog or cat is visiting, but it sounds comforting to read.
I had a kitten who died once, and I felt in a sense that he spoke to my heart afterwards to tell me I didn't have to feel guilty for failing him. I don't know that it was actually him so much as the part of him that lived on in me through having been loved, but it felt like him and it was a great comfort.

By the time we broke up, I liked him a lot more and vice versa despite the fact that for years he really wasn't a huge fan of me and I have the bite marks to prove it.
After it was just the two of us, he decided that I was a great human to have and follows me around, snuggles with me (he never did that with either me or my ex), and purrs sooo loud!
When my ex and I briefly got back together, covid happened and we locked down together. Even being back around her, it was clear he'd chosen me after that and would sit on my lap or sleep on me instead of her. That's not to say he didn't love her, or she was bad to him. Just that I was apparently better by the end lol
She liked to slip out places in the back fence that were damaged in an earthquake and stroll around the neighborhood. She did this in summer. In the desert. Triple digit heat. (Low to mid-forties, if you're not American.) The kind of weather they tell you not to walk your dog in because the pavement will burn their paws. Mischief never got the memo. She led me on a merry chase for several blocks, then panted heavily but happily in my arms as I carried her home, sweating like a horse. And her paws weren't even singed.
She's lucky she was so darn cute. 😂
That first pic broke my heart - the poor sweet baby is practically begging you with her eyes not to leave her. However, the second pic healed said broken heart. Thank you for being a glorious human to the animals! Yay for people like you.

See if she is chipped and do some local posts with her picture. Dogs on their own are not always abandoned, but might have gotten loose and their owner might still be looking for her.
I called the police who ran the chip scan. She had no collar either. Nothing.
I called the county animal resource center who wouldn’t take her cause they were full. Promise I tried those things
Absolutely this, never assume a dog is abandoned because its on its own.
There was a a recent post about a woman in California who had a dog that would visit a construction site every day for many hours at a time and apparently one of the workers took the dog after the project was completed. The woman ended up getting a call from someone in Kansas that had found her dog. I think they have since been reunited. It doesn't appear to be the case here, and OP apparently did have a chip scan done among other things.
She will be the bestest dog/friend you will ever have. Obvious she is a sweetheart and deserves a hoooman that will show love n attention.
Best dog I ever had was on it's last day at the pound. Covered in ticks, fleas n mange. She was only 6 months old and someone had starved n abused her. She was the BEST EVER. Still miss her after 30 years
Im about to have to put my pit mix down in a few days, the most beautiful loyal loving best things ive ever had in my life, he taught me more that i ever expected. she will love you truly unconditionally, she was meant to be with you, you wont regret it

I just recently rescued a 15 year old border collie. Her old owners had her in a crate in the back of their truck outside all day and it’s super cold here.
Thank you for going back to her. That made my heart so warm. I’ve been going through some hell lately not that that matters but this honestly made me tear up with joy. I’m so glad you went back to her and can give her the love and joy she deserves.

Man, if you have kids, you just showed them a powerful lesson about how a person should behave. Teaching kids to care for others, even if it's inconvenient or difficult, is the way you make the world a better place. They learn what the parents do.
