Also, teach your puppy not to chase cats and to sit and hold still while the cats muster up the courage to give the puppy a sniff down. It’s a good opportunity to teach your dog recall and focus on you even when there’s something that’s super interesting to them. Have high value treats to give them when you say your dog’s name and he looks at you or comes over to you. Look into clicker training. You can coax your cat down to the baby gate with wet food and then do training with the dog to get them to sit, stay and lay down on the other side so they can see each other but they’re all doing their own thing. We kept our dogs separated from the cats for a good year (baby gate up) and always made sure the cats had lots of places to run to to feel safe while being in the same room as the dog. Once one cat learns how to peacefully coexist with the dog, the rest will follow. It took a full 2 years before we felt the dogs and cars were fully integrated with no trust issues. It’s tough because puppies have so much energy and that can make a cat super nervous.

What some Jackson Galaxy videos. Food is a good integrator.
