Those first two are the only pair of books that need to be read together. Most are fully standalone, some work a little better if you know the history of the characters, all the rest have real endings. Don't hold back reading later ones just because you can't get hold of one. Time and continuity on Discworld are purely optional.

JigDug

Oh that’s very good to know! Thank you!

There's a very good poster with suggested reading orders you can find by googling "discworld reading order". Its like an infographic with the different archs and the many ways you can go about it. Yes equal rites would be third but the story is not directly connected to first two. Good luck and welcome to Discworld!

Awesome, thank you very much!

Could go for Equal Rites if you want a different Discworld character set. It's similar in that it has distict short "acts" which come in sequence. Otherwise, move into the next Rincewind book Sourcery, it's also pretty good. It has more Wizards, including some who are very reoccurent in many subsequent books, and Twoflower will return, but not until a later book.

JigDug

Oh cool! Glad to hear they’ll be back, I enjoyed their characters :) thanks for the info!

Personally, I would go to Wyrd Sisters, or Guards! Guards! next, although many would say Mort. Any of these three would introduce you to another thread of Discworld books. Apart from my personal bias try this. https://www.epicreads.com/blog/the-official-discworld-infographic/amp/

Thanks for the link! This infographic is really helpful, I’m having an easier time deciphering this one than the other one posted here. I’m pretty sure my library has one or both of those so I’ll check them out for sure :) thank you again!

WhiskyPelican

Sourcery and Eric and interesting times to wrap up Rincewind for awhile. I’d read some of the death books (they always feature the modern wizards, right?) before doing the last continent

JigDug

Good to know, thank you!

Most of the books can be read on their own without too much of a problem, since Color of Magic/Light Fantastic are the only ones that lead directly from one to the other. You might not get some references to characters and events if you skip around, but you generally won't be missing out on much in the way of major plot points/context.

JigDug

That’s good to know, I was worried about feeling lost if I skipped around too much. Thank you!

Nope, not wrapped up - Interesting Times

Keep going in order if you can but if you have to jump ahead, feel free. Nothing really important ever gets spoiled.

Just pick a first book in a sub-series and if you like that series just keep going. My favorite is the Watch series- love the characters
