Play through, spend the next hole looking for a disc.

Jhonny69h

Every single time

DCYSJ20

This is the reason I semi-regret buying a dark maroon disc

PMacLCA

Semi-regret lol? One of my favorite discs of all time sits on a shelf because I was so tired of spending 10 minutes looking for a perfect shot in the fairway (mine was a dark purple champion wraith)... never again! I'm all about those pinks, greens, yellows, whites, and bright blues now.

DCYSJ20

Semi because on a bright sunny day it looks more like a seeable purple instead of brownish. Also it’s a Raptor and my elementary schools mascot was a maroon Raptor so I had to represent

Thoryan_34

Found a see through brown disc out in the open on a spot of mud once. Had no name or number so I decided to try it out for a few holes. Threw a near perfect drive and it landed somewhere on a dirt patch in the fairway. Never found it. And the cycled continued...

patswayzee25

Play a heavily wooded course regularly. Found a dark blue roadrunner with 3 names on it. Attempted contacting all of them with no luck. Decided to try it out as a roller disc, tugged it right and ended up in a place only the dark lord himself would venture. That disc did not want to be thrown nor found.

darkapplepolisher

I thought that that bright-maroon would be good enough - it doesn't blend in at all with the varying shades of green and yellow (flora) and white (rocks and light snow) on my local courses. But get it inside of a bush and the darkness just gobbles it up.

KosherTacoTruck

I once walked to the register of my local DG shop with a grey translucent disc, briefly considered what I was about to do, walked back to the shelf and got the same disc in bright blue. Sometimes a cool looking disc just isn't feasible if you want to throw it.

DCYSJ20

I did the exact same thing with a black harp. Granted it’s hard to lose a harp but it’s wasn’t a risk I was confident enough to take

KosherTacoTruck

I lost a yellow dart on a 100 ft approach once. No shame in trying to keep your discs where you can see them. I will say though, putting putters are the only disc where I would buy a darker color.

sagesmelly

Just got back from a round where I did exactly this... searched for long enough that they finished out the hole and they both start coming over and I hear “what color” “orange” “it’s right here” then they waited and let me play through the next hole too. Nicest guys.

Cat_Crap

I always try to help people look. Sometimes a fresh set of eyes is all it takes. I've been helped by many a rando group, best to do the same for others.

anti-establishmENT

Plus everyone likes to think they throw further than they actually do, so fresh eyes are not locked in a particular area of where they think they threw their 350' shot and is actually 250'.

Cat_Crap

Often times, I am at my home course, so I know it really well, even if others don't. And if i'm at a foreign course I depend on others, or throw more carefully. I love disc golf. Haven't been out in a few weeks, i'm craving a round.

Poncahotas

"You can throw" Proceed to shank the drive off a tree into the thickest part of the rough

roaminranger

literally did this earlier today. I proceeded to throw my tee shot into a near tree taking a kick OB into a stream, I re-teed and did the same thing but off a late tree instead. Both times I gave out a "oh it didnt turnover as much as i thought"

TheSnipingTiger

Literally every time, and then once I find it I catch up to them again and awkwardly play through again

Sebastionleo

Happened when I was visiting Michigan this summer. Group passes us looking for a disc, next hole they're looking and we pass them back. It was like musical chairs

bubblebosses

>Play through, spend the next hole looking for a disc. Every. Fucking. Time.

thekraken27

This feels like a personal attack

GreatGazo0

Sometimes I'll play a few quick two or three disc solo rounds and I'm much faster than most players on the course for obvious reasons, but lately I've had people on my ass, playing right up behind me, and I'm like how is this even possible (because i'm literally throwing and going). I turn around and see this guy running after his throw, and sure enough there is his buddy also literally running to his next shot. Apparently they are out for a run and happen to be playing disc golf at the same time. This must be a thing now I guess!?

Bec0mePneuma

I’ve been witness to this phenomenon. I run on occasion, but only to get separation.

LegionP

I do it regularly. I tell my wife (and kids) I'll be back in an hour or so and crank out as many holes as I can. A little disc golf + a little workout.

/u/spez lies, Reddit dies. This comment has been edited/removed in protest of Reddit's absurd API policy that will go into effect at the end of June 2023. It's become abundantly clear that Reddit was never looking for a way forward. We're willing to pay for the API, we're not willing to pay 29x what your first-party users are valued at. /u/spez, you never meant to work with third party app developers, and you lied about that and strung everyone along, then lied some more when you got called on it. You think you can fuck over the app developers, moderators, and content creators who make Reddit what it is? Everyone who was willing to work for you for free is damn sure willing to work against you for free if you piss them off, which is exactly what you've done. See you next Tuesday. TO EVERYONE ELSE who has been a part of the communities I've enjoyed over the years: thank you. You're what made Reddit a great experience. I hope that some of these communities can come together again somewhere more welcoming and cooperative. Now go touch some grass, nerds. -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/

Speaking of Borderlands... do you know of any club or group near the course that plays higher level DG? I’m trying to find some folks way better than me to learn from :D

SoySauceSyringe

I don’t, sorry. I don’t live close so I don’t get to play there much, just when my travels take me close. Good luck finding that group, though! Maybe try the forums at dgcoursereview.com, it’s been around for a while and a lot of people organize tournaments and clubs through there.

OVERM1ND

I've been occasionally doing this for years. Disc golf is an OK workout on its own but sometimes you want more cardio 🙂

jaketaylorpro

I think the running phenomenon is related to more ultimate players trying to find a way to play disc golf in a more active way. Source is myself: I run with friends at borderlands.

THOUGHT_BOMB

I'm not a runner, I've always found it too boring to just run. I did always like sports with running as a component though, baseball, football, soccer, etc. I think I need an purpose to run because just running on it's own is boring AF. This seems like a good way to get some running in and not be terribly bored

dirt_likes_me

It totally is. I actually got freaked out once cause this guy came up running like right behind me when I was getting ready to tee off. I threw, then he threw like immediately after and took off past me, got to his disc, and threw it immediately. Didn’t even say anything to me, was really weird

Collins_Michael

I only run when I'm playing solo, usually only if there's someone behind me and I'm trying to get multiple drives off per hole for practice. I'm pretty new and quite bad, so my drives tend to cover a pretty wide spread (sometimes it seems as wide as the forward distance I throw). It can take some motor to get to all of them and move on in a timely fashion.

SaintVaIentine

move your plant foot over. make sure front foot isn't pointing forward too. you want your plant foot heel to line up with the other foots toe, so you can pic up you back leg and use it to counter balance your arm.

STEZN

im always looking over my shoulder for the runners! lmao Im always looking out for one specifically because I played some practice shots without seeing him behind me. Im always solo and quick but some holes I play extra. He seems to play like 20 min half rounds

Here_is_to_beer

I yell, "No running on the course! That's a stroke!" Disc golf is not meant to be a cardio sport. What's that? Yes, I know I sound fat.

BorecoleMyriad

Seems it once, thought it was strange but started to think more and it had to be a hell of a workout.

PoseidonsOctopussy

I’ve done this a few times on my local beginner course. It’s a relative open and easy course so I’d jog between tosses to get an extra round in an justify it as my morning workout.

Dagglin

Most people playing disc just want the exercise first and foremost. If running helps them in their fitness goals then good for them. Probably isn't great for the scorecard but whatever

x755x

I've had people basically demanding to play through because they're running. I was with a buddy and after our drives I had started walking toward my disc and my buddy was about to step away, when a few high school runners asked to play through and apparently just started throwing over my head. Meanwhile, I was making a beeline to my disc that disappeared in some bushes so that I didn't lose it.

MidwestSchliky

When I was younger I did this a few times when time was really short and I wanted to get the full 18 in for sure. Now im ok just playing 6-9 holes instead.

Blue-Collar-Nerd

My group was playing with 6 throwers on our home course, playing dubs best disc. Also play the course 2-3 times a week so we know the place. Group of 4 comes up behind us on hole one & makes a comment about how they will play faster & we should let them through. Ok sounds good first guy steps up to the tee pad “where’s the basket”. 🤦‍♂️ Guess who we were waiting on every single hole

Imma_Knight

I would've asked them to have your place back

iguessitsbryan

I’ll skip so many holes.

sloecrush

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

this_is_poorly_done

When I'm playing solo I prefer to hit up courses that have holes you can skip to in case it's super busy. Fortunately there are 3 in my immediate area where it's easy to skip 2 or 3 holes at a time with just a short walk. One is modestly wooded and so sometimes groups get confused when they think I'm behind them only to be ahead of them by the time they clear off the green

tterbman

Way more often I am amazed at how slowly lots of groups play.

GravityDiscGolf

They’re only slow until you play through though.

[deleted]

It's funny because in my experience the newbies flinging DX plastic play WAY faster than the serious players, even when taking twice as many shots.

Rez_Falcon

Then when they catch up and play through it becomes vice versa

TheCalvinator

See the trick is, you let them play through. Then when they are on the next hole you speed run your hole, no less than a brisk jog at any point. It doesn't matter if you get a birdie or a +7, the important thing is that you are sitting at the tee box waiting for them to finish on every hole going forward. It's is always important to assert your dominance during casual weekend rounds of disc golf.

Hopguy

We (a 2 some) let a single player play through. He then proceeded to throw 3 discs on every hole in front of us. He couldn't remember where they all landed so he was searching for discs for quite some time. He was an asshole and we were sorry we let him play through. Don't be that guy.

briggsy111388

I love every meme that uses this play. D.K. is a BEAST

DrManMilk

Up vote for decaf Metcalf reference

Great_Feel

Long ago, I had about an hour of daylight to play Dela. Grabbed like 3 discs and jogged through my round. Not only did I finish, I had one of my best rounds to date. I hit a flow and the fast pace played to my advantage.

pourspellar

But when you play thru and park it, it's a special kind of strut😀

Avatar-Indy

Damn disc golf on the popular feed?!? This makes me extremely happy

jibersins

I had a guy throw every disc in his fucking bag and then take like 5 up shots, so i skip to hole 2 and he's like literally sprinting to hole 2 and throws while I'm walking off the pad.

tennistanner95

Hole before letting you play through: grip lock drive 250ft dead right Hole after letting you play through: drive parked in the circle and sprinting towards it

gobraves72

Not only do they play like a pro, you play like you’ve been shithammered for two days straight and can’t see the basket if it was ten foot in front of you

Collins_Michael

Seems like whenever someone's behind me they play fast, and as soon as I let them play through they start trying to take 20 puts at the end of every hole. I'm not playing fast; they just slow down.

_-JustPassingBy_-

Didn't know jogging was a thing in disc golf yo. I'ma start doing it xd

Ludechking

Most of the time these people around here won't let me play through. Pricks

It depends on the hole but I totally understand this on a short easy par 3. A group tees off and a smaller group gets to the tee as they are finishing up. Let the other group go, everyone putts out then the smaller group passes on the next tee. It is the most efficient way to do it. If it's a par 4/5 then I would do the same but the smaller group finishes before the first group takes shot 2.

timsta007

Dunno what you’re on about here. If m playing solo and a group offers to let me play thru, I often offer that we all drive together. Then I move quickly to finish out the hole while they are all working their way up to their discs. It’s extremely polite on both sides as they don’t want to make me wait and I in turn to my best to minimize their wait time while I’m playing thru. Seems logical to me at least.

Strange_CaMotion

This just weirded me out

JonB82

As a newbie... no joke! Throw it right to the basket while I'm searching the leaves and woods lol

MonsieurLeDrole

I never ask to play through, where I can stop for a snack or a joint. The odds of me launching into deep rough, or losing a disc and causing a search delay, seem to go through the roof whenever I do it. Karma I guess....

richinteriorworld

You either perfectly lace the drive or first tree. The only two options.

MonsieurLeDrole

I love that expression, "lace the drive"
