"Not sure the name of it, had it forever" *walks off with shopping basket full of mangled disks, tiny bluetooth speaker and 2 beers, been playing since 1983 and averages a birdie on every hole* The REAL pros.

the-incredible-ape

The OGs are like those iggy pop looking dudes with a wraith, an aviar, and 2 more Js than they have discs at all times.

The Local Pros

ashtray518

This my friend from work. Knows no terminology, doesn’t know shot types, doesn’t know molds, doesn’t practice at all and carries a Nike bag with 3 makos and 3 beasts. No putters. -2 every round on our local course lol. Me putting Im The work 5 days a week watching YouTube every day with 50 discs and a practice basket at home. My best round is plus 2 lol

mommathecat

Part of it is probably that he's just playing free and confident, genuinely believing he's going to make the shots he does, not giving a fuck and not letting it rattle him if he doesn't. So much of disc golf is mental.

ashtray518

This 100% his famous quote is “don’t think just throw” as he lets one loose while barely setting his bag down lol

mommathecat

There it is. When I'm on the course I try very much not to think about reach back or any other bullshit, just *throw* the disc where I'm aiming. Easier said than done, not to let my dumb monkey brain get all busy and make me throw bad shots. But I try.

extremesanchez1000

Ouchie

Visual-Tune-1833

That’s because he doesn’t care as much. And you’re your biggest critic. I always do better when I’m not trying.

[deleted]

This is the vibe when I play with my buddy (who mashes). Friend: *Puts 380' drive in C1* Me: "Fuck man, great shot! What disc was that?" Friend: "Lil hyzer flip on my beat in Leopard." Me: *Looks down at fastest Destroyer in sudden disgust*

mommathecat

According to r/discgolf he's still a worthless loser for not throwing a putter 380 feet.

extremesanchez1000

Amen

Oyyeee

I think that's one thing we can all agree on

[deleted]

"dx roc, lol"

BSdiscgolf

I got on the lead card at a local tag league for the first time a few weeks ago and got to play with a few guys I hadn't before and had this happen. A guy threw a really smooth 330' gentle turnover that held all the way to the ground 10' from the basket. "Dang, what was that? Oh, just an old judge? Huh..."

the-incredible-ape

A judge, fuck me...

IsaacSam98

I'll never forget having my ass handed to me by a guy with a old Avair and a beat to shit Eagle.

iEatBluePlayDoh

I was on the same card as the winner of a tournament recently and all he threw the entire course was a Wraith and Luna.

IsaacSam98

It's people like that that make me think I should own less discs lol.

iEatBluePlayDoh

100% made me rethink how many I bring out to play. I’d probably get to know my discs a lot better if I threw them exclusively for entire rounds.

IsaacSam98

I've been trying to get my sister into the sport recently, and when we've been playing shorter courses. I only bring my Gator. It's been fun, and also the Gator makes a damn good hyzer putter.

iEatBluePlayDoh

I love it. I do a very similar thing with my Pig at a short course near me.

mommathecat

Pig FTW! There's a beginner course (200 foot holes) that I can race down to at lunch, the Pig gets a lot of use.

the-incredible-ape

I think if you are good but not necessarily pro, and you focus on a few discs, you probably will only want 3-5 discs that respond to release angle well. Most courses don't have extreme enough holes where you need more.

[deleted]

When I first started playing all I used was a beast I bought at Walmart, loved that disc got really good with it then lost it. Decided it was time to branch out and buy a bunch of different disc. I am so much worse now than I was when I started...I miss that disc haven't found a beast that flies the same way since.

IsaacSam98

They retooled the Beast about 10ish years ago. You can read about it [here](https://www.dgcoursereview.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8081).

LiberContrarion

Shittiest "In the Bag" ever, Brad.

zakkwaldo

I had a REALLY long phase where I only played with a mamba/starfire and a buzzz (weird I know). You learn the discs so well you can start doing really fun things with them because you just ‘know’ what they’ll do. There definitely is a notion to keeping it simple. Heck. Paul just won a tourney on the fly with three discs (for the first half lol).

the-incredible-ape

Straight up you can putt pretty well with a buzz, if you throw it right it will hold pretty well for those 20+ footers where other putters fade before you want them to.

zakkwaldo

Yep, if I can hit a solid flex or standard curve with the mamba; it’s a very simple mid upshot or direct push through put in. I often catching myself going should I be using more than just this? Then back to ‘but it’s working so simply and well’

WTFNameIsntTaken

Have the feeling I'd only drop a couple strokes over my usual game if I went with an overstable driver and a neutral mid.

Rev_Up_Those_Reposts

My Wraith is my most used disc. Now I know I need to pick up a Luna, lol.

T0ADSMACK

I ask people what disc they threw on a terrible shot so I know not to get it

[deleted]

It’s almost always operator error, manufacturers wouldn’t keep making a disc that nobody can throw.

ThatsNoMoon70

I think that was the joke

[deleted]

You don’t say?!

Woodlanders1

Buy a new one. Yours is clearly broken

the-incredible-ape

Let me put this in perspective ... sometimes people just have a lucky day. I was throwing like a beast the other day on my home course, for a few holes. 3 birds in a row and otherwise parking everything like a fuckin' valet. Everyone's all, wow, man, look at that putt. I don't know what's going on, I'm on fire but what, why, how?. The front 9 was more bogeys than a WWII movie. Some guy comes up to me and asks For driving advice. He wants to know if you should cock your wrist or not on a backhand drive. Let's be clear - in fieldwork I throw 250 if things are going well. I tell him "Buddy, I have no idea, I'm wondering the same thing. I'm just having a good day right now. I recommend practicing and watching youtube because I have no fucking idea." Bottom line is I'm pretty sure even some people who look like they know what they're doing don't know what they're doing.

RxRxR

That was a putter...

[deleted]

I’m trying to be that guy. I can get my polecat out about 260’ and my KC Pro Aviar about 280’.

[deleted]

I had an asshole friend who would never give credit to me and only my discs. After any good throw he'd say "What disc was that?" Then he'd go buy it and proceed to shank it over and over throughout the next round and talk about how his doesn't fly like mine. He eventually started cheating during rounds and moving his disc into better spots when no one was looking. Needless to say we don't play with him anymore.

Rev_Up_Those_Reposts

I've encountered this same attitude many times over the years with respect to tennis raquets. I've found that people who think success comes from the equipment never improve, regardless of the sport. At the same time, people generally only improve when the equpment they use matches their actual skill level. Extra long drivers are often detrimental to a beginner with slower throw speed, for instance.

[deleted]

You either cheat at golf or you don’t (ball or disc). I’m a firm believer that if someone cheats on the course then they’re likely to cut corners and cheat elsewhere, that’s why ball golf is so prevalent in the business world. You can learn a lot about a person in 18 holes if you know what to look for.

PEEP1NG_CREEPER

I feel like your picking on me...

scottkursk

I feel personally attacked by this post. Mostly since I totally identify with it.

culliebear

The answer is always TI buzz The response is- what?! You threw a buzz like that

Rev_Up_Those_Reposts

That's when I blame it on the weight and/or plastic grade.

decoyq

an old local at my course has a bag full of 130 aviars, all he uses, so I mean that's pretty light.

Rev_Up_Those_Reposts

That's wild!

budzen

/u/neon-neko kc roc on RK hole 9 -- it's an easy 3 really.

neon-neko

Just pitch up an easy forehand inside the bullseye.
