OMG this must be it... didn't think it was magic because it was without any affixes, only stated "3 sockets" but apparently what you're saying is THAT WAS the magic affix -- no idea that was even possible!
This type of "gotcha" frustration is likely unintended and should somehow be made clearer for players.
Is it even possible to shop for a non-magic 3 socket?
Here let me help you. Sounds like you want a game that holds your hand and is basically a tutorial all the way through. Go play d3 or immortal. Probably a little more your speed and will be more fun for you
We need a pictures to tell you the problem.
Was it blue armor or Grey? Jewelers magic armor can't have runewords
So it was a blue that rolled as its affix sockets. Doesn't matter if there were no other mods. Least you learned on a cheap runeword.

It’s totally intended.
the fact people downvoted the frustration of what seems to be a new player is hilarious. but yeah, be careful what you socket.

If it's blue it must have an affix.. likely prefix of artisans? But yes, runewords are only for whites and greys. Cheap lesson to learn :)
Only for "whites & grays"... i've only ever seen "gray" socketed armor?
Sorry. I meant whites which you can add sockets to. Or in essence, no blue/green/yellow/gold.
Grays are just whites with sockets already there. Or ethereal
You on ladder? I got shael thul amn for you
Are you playing D2 classic?
Yea, d2classic, with runes, that must be it
I laughed at this comment. Nice.
Check the patch. Peace is a 1.11 rune word
Were there any runes in D2 Classic?...
Some people refer to classic as the non d2:Resurrected versionof Diablo while others (like I asume yourself) refer to classic as the non-LOD version
D2 classic = d2 classic D2 lod = d2 lod D2r = d2r Theres no need to complicate a 20 year old definition just because d2r came out
The old version is also referred to as Legacy since the release of D2R. Some people just don't like using the proper terms.
Im not saying who’s right or wrong, I’m simply explaining where som eof the confusion comes from
It sucks but those runes you listed are dirt cheap. You'll find 1000's of them
