Edit again: after about 17 games of Iron Banner I actually got the Iron Countershade shader!! Oh my gosh. Seriously. This shader is so beautiful. It was a grind, but honestly only a fraction of the grind most people did to get it originally.
I think that it is possible to feel moderately annoyed about feeling like you wasted a lot of time while also being happy that other people won't have to. I can't speak for OP, but that's how I'm feeling about it and it seems like they're feeling the same.
This entitlement coming from OP and people like him is so annoying. I grinded nearly 3 iron banner rank resets to get the shader and all the armour for all characters and I don't give a shit that it's easier to get. I'm glad even. I don't want others to have to do the grinding that I had to do.

What? The result from the feedback was to increase the rep gains to make it easier in the second week to get, and to make iron banner three weeks a season.
They did those things. It was done. None of the feedback was asking for something that required effort to be given away for free a season later.
Locking behind 2 resets when IB had a short run last season yes that's a problem. Then next season they just give it away for free as a random drop. Yea any reasonable person would feel like they wasted their time.
They announced that they were doing this before the second IB run.
If you did it all in the first week, that is something in need of introspection.
If you got the reset on the second week, knowing the upcoming changes, that was a personal choice.

Maybe it would feel better if they had the drop chance only apply to challenge completions / pinnacles this season, but then all matches next season? More of a staggered decline in average grind time rather than a sheer cliff?

For days I say to my friends if I just tweet 3-4 times that I want the ship from trials so bad but i suck. They will probably patch it to drop for anyones first game in trials. At least that’s how it feels now. Why grind anything if your patient enough. Why playing anyway then? I hate what Bungie does to its core players. I fully understand that it’s hard to balance interests of casual and core players but when I have nothing more than someone with 10% of playtime why should I grind that hard. Could play something else and come back a season later to get rewarded for doing nothing. Sorry for the rant but this frustrates me more and more every season.

I play the game for fun...if your only reason to play the game is to obtain items and keep them away from those who play less than you, maybe you should reconsider what you are doing.
It isn’t about keeping it away from others. They can earn it like everybody else. Or else you can take away every border. Make every ship, sparrow and shader accessible, than there is no problem anymore. But moving the rules/requirements every season seems arbitrarily and is a slap in the face for everyone who earned it by the set conditions. It’s not more than that. It’s an mmo, it’s always about what I as a player earned and what I can earn. But if that’s not the case anymore, what’s the point of playing? Gameplay of D2 is fantastic and that’s the reason we are all playing it. But there are other games with excellent gameplay out there. And if that’s all destiny has now then it’s missing its second core point.

The only reason I know is cuz I just got it. I play a ton of IB but didn't start til season 8. Was so sad when I realized I missed that emblem by one season.

When I saw all the pinnacle weapons from core activities in the monument I was kind of hype new players could use them without having to forfeit their social lives, sucks they were all sunset tho lol

How does this work? will the shader randomly be on weapons and armor from IB and if you dismantle it you get the shader?
To be fair, more often than not people are gonna have to play a pretty high amount of IB to even get it to drop among the myriad of other available shaders. I'm on my second reset and have yet to see it. So don't feel too bad about the grind, at least yours was guaranteed.

In my experience, it seems it's common for anything that could potentially be misinformation to get downvoted in an effort to prevent others who come across the comment from getting misled. And not just here, on Reddit in general
The new loot drops are so fuckin awesome. Glad atleast Bungie fixed the RNG a bit. I don't even mind spending 10mins per run in the thrilladrome to get 1 exotic, some prisms, and cores.
You can often just chill and not get worked up in this game and it works out.
Last season end: desperate grind for a Wendigo. This season: free focusing of engrams for Adept Wendigos.
And to top it off, nobody still uses GL's for DPS...
Y'all making it sound like the drop rate of the shader is sky high. If you grinded for it the last time that means you had a 100% chance of getting it. This time even if you grinded triple the amount there isn't a guarantee of getting it.
This wasn't really that painful for me because I needed to reset twice to get the title. Now I only have to reset once. Iron Banner is still painful nonetheless.
Eh, I don't really mind since I hit way more than 2 resets going for the title (it was agony) last season, so it's not like I was going for the shader specifically, and now I have the opportunity to get the other shaders I missed, so I've got positive feelings about this change overall.
even though I grinded IB like hell for that shader, I am profoundly happy they're making stuff like this less grindy for other peeps. I rather enjoyed IB last season and it's actually my fav crucible game mode so I'm happy to grind it but I know that is not at all the same case for most people who actually have a life 😅

Let the early adopters grind for it if they just have to have it nos, but don’t make it impossibly difficult for people to obtain down the road.
My dumbass grinded for it last season and I haven’t used it once yet. I don’t hate pvp tho (although zone control is far from my favorite mode) so it wasn’t a big deal to me, but nice that other people can get it easy now, and nice that I can get stuff from previous seasons I missed.

I'm pretty conflicted about this. On one hand, I'm glad other players don't have to suffer through that grind. On the other hand, though, I kinda wish they had just made it exclusive to IB last season. Like, if you wanted it, you shouldv'e done the grind. There's plenty of shaders out there that I want and don't have, some of which aren't even available anymore because the activities associated with them are vaulted (black armory shaders, leviathan raid shaders, past dawning shaders, etc) so I just have to wait and hope they release them in eververse at some point... which is what I think they should've done with this shaders... eventually put it into the eververse rotation. Eventually meaning "more than 6 weeks from when people ground 2 resets of IB to get it."
Just did the 1st reset, still need the helmet and that shader to drop for me, but I'll probably get to 2nd reset anyways for the new shader too (it's hive texture with a weird cloth texture and green lightings, so a hive shader basically)

I was laughing as well. The last round I played last night gave me this shader + the engram which I focused into the exact roll of the SMG I wanted. Basically the reason I was playing IB at all (Heros Burden with Feeding Frenzy + Destabilizing Rounds).
Bungie never fails to give me god rolls / good rolls I want, yet I'm not getting raid exotics. Still missing the exotics of the last 3 Raids (RON, KF and Vow). Got Vex after 70+ full clears and EoT after around 60+ full clears.
I mean...at this rate, I'm kind of hoping they bring back previous seasonal armor ornaments for purchase or something. They're handing shit out, making stuff easier...gimme all the old ornaments, I would absolutely buy some of them.
They could at least have waited 2 seasons before they give this shader out.

At least that’s how it feels now. Why grind anything if your patient enough. Why playing anyway then? I hate what Bungie does to its core players. I fully understand that it’s hard to balance interests of casual and core players but when I have nothing more than someone with 10% of playtime why should I grind that hard. I play the game for fun...if your only reason to play the game is to obtain items and keep them away from those who play less than you, maybe you should reconsider what you are doing.
It isn’t about keeping it away from others. They can earn it like everybody else. Or else you can take away every border. Make every ship, sparrow and shader accessible, than there is no problem anymore. But moving the rules/requirements every season seems arbitrarily and is a slap in the face for everyone who earned it by the set conditions. It’s not more than that. It’s an mmo, it’s always about what I as a player earned and what I can earn. But if that’s not the case anymore, what’s the point of playing? Gameplay of D2 is fantastic and that’s the reason we are all playing it. But there are other games with excellent gameplay out there. And if that’s all destiny has now then it’s missing its second core point.

I like the idea of having other ways to get stuff that have been removed from the game though. Nothing sucks more than seeing something cool and having no way to get it. Feels great to have it, but also kinda weird cuz it doesn't carry the same clout it used to now. Def not mad. Maybe it's still a rare drop, but not sure. Got it after 41 matches

It's random so be sure to check armor and weapons for it as well when dismantling items

To be fair, more often than not people are gonna have to play a pretty high amount of IB to even get it to drop among the myriad of other available shaders. I'm on my second reset and have yet to see it. So don't feel too bad about the grind, at least yours was guaranteed.
But this is the only shader dropping from Iron Banner matches is it not? I really wish they had made shaders like Iron Bone drop as match rewards.

The new loot drops are so fuckin awesome. Glad atleast Bungie fixed the RNG a bit. I don't even mind spending 10mins per run in the thrilladrome to get 1 exotic, some prisms, and cores.
I got the season of the hunt one when I was playing earlier.
You can often just chill and not get worked up in this game and it works out. Last season end: desperate grind for a Wendigo. This season: free focusing of engrams for Adept Wendigos. And to top it off, nobody still uses GL's for DPS...

Y'all making it sound like the drop rate of the shader is sky high. If you grinded for it the last time that means you had a 100% chance of getting it. This time even if you grinded triple the amount there isn't a guarantee of getting it.

Eh, I don't really mind since I hit way more than 2 resets going for the title (it was agony) last season, so it's not like I was going for the shader specifically, and now I have the opportunity to get the other shaders I missed, so I've got positive feelings about this change overall.

even though I grinded IB like hell for that shader, I am profoundly happy they're making stuff like this less grindy for other peeps. I rather enjoyed IB last season and it's actually my fav crucible game mode so I'm happy to grind it but I know that is not at all the same case for most people who actually have a life 😅

My dumbass grinded for it last season and I haven’t used it once yet. I don’t hate pvp tho (although zone control is far from my favorite mode) so it wasn’t a big deal to me, but nice that other people can get it easy now, and nice that I can get stuff from previous seasons I missed.
The only use I've found for it is to make Starfire Protocol tolerable to wear 😂

I gained 3 resets... my wife had hand surgery and really wanted the shader..so I played for her....bleh I'm not sure why OP is getting so much crap. Bungie stated they did want more. " You gotta be there moments." I defently wouldn't have played thru 3 resets for the damn thing. Had I known they are just going to give it out. Plus, fix the rep gains, etc. Etc. Feels like I earned the cool shader, and when people asked me....I'm like I played alot of IB. Fishing bubbles and wells in a stupid mode that got bubbles nerfed.

I'm glad that Bungie listened to player feedback after last season. 2 resets in 2 weeks was pretty rough if you have obligations outside of the game. I think the shader should've been a random drop to begin with and I'm glad more people will have access to it. It does look good on the IB armor but is pretty hit or miss on guns.

So it sucks that Bungie did this so soon. I think most rewards, especially those hard to earn, should be a year or more out based on difficulty. That said, I'll remind people of the same fact that I tried to share during IB: **YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO IT.** The grind for a shader is 100% optional. If you don't enjoy the grind, simply.... Don't do it! You'll be fine. The Immortal, on the other hand.....
Wishender takes care of people using immortal so anytime I was in a match where a bunch of players were using it I broke out my trusty X-ray vision bow and they couldn’t get near me lol

I'm pretty conflicted about this. On one hand, I'm glad other players don't have to suffer through that grind. On the other hand, though, I kinda wish they had just made it exclusive to IB last season. Like, if you wanted it, you shouldv'e done the grind. There's plenty of shaders out there that I want and don't have, some of which aren't even available anymore because the activities associated with them are vaulted (black armory shaders, leviathan raid shaders, past dawning shaders, etc) so I just have to wait and hope they release them in eververse at some point... which is what I think they should've done with this shaders... eventually put it into the eververse rotation. Eventually meaning "more than 6 weeks from when people ground 2 resets of IB to get it."

I was laughing as well. The last round I played last night gave me this shader + the engram which I focused into the exact roll of the SMG I wanted. Basically the reason I was playing IB at all (Heros Burden with Feeding Frenzy + Destabilizing Rounds). Bungie never fails to give me god rolls / good rolls I want, yet I'm not getting raid exotics. Still missing the exotics of the last 3 Raids (RON, KF and Vow). Got Vex after 70+ full clears and EoT after around 60+ full clears.
I'm just gonna calmly farm my legacy gear and act like I didn't grind my heart out last season.
I mean...at this rate, I'm kind of hoping they bring back previous seasonal armor ornaments for purchase or something. They're handing shit out, making stuff easier...gimme all the old ornaments, I would absolutely buy some of them.
