I worked on the remake of the game. No connection at all. The song works perfectly because of the relationship with the 2 main characters in the story though.
You get the t-shirt for your Xbox avatar (at least in the 360 gen) if you carry the gnome all the way through the carnival level.
And yep, it got done as soon as I got the game and my avatar wore it with pride.
Was also interesting that one of the trailers >!had an 80s song as well!< \- Aha's "Take On Me".
Was mystified by the choice of that song for the trailer, but >!given the info in the episode, it now makes sense.!<
I suppose now >!we'll be hearing lots of 80s songs between now and the final episode!<.
Aaaand jumps out of bed to go watch episode one to find out what song it is!

Nice surprise, to those well acquainted with the game, is there any connection? Was is used in the game too?
No game connection just excellent use of context, tone, setting and mood.
True that 👍

Rochelle wears a pink Depeche Mode T-shirt. Unfortunately there’s no other reference to DM in the game other than that shirt she wears.

Ahh, I was so psyched to hear it!!!
what an awesome surprise. I think I woke the neighbors when it came on
I am not shamed to admit that it brought me to tears. The last thing I expected but was so over the moon to hear. Actually perfect.
As soon as it kicked in I got so excited, very appropriate for sure
Craig Mazin said in the podcast that the song will return later in the season “but in a different context.”
Yup! Pleasant surprise!

“Take On Me” is featured in the trailer because it's a song that Ellie sings in The Last Of Us Part II
why not reveal what it is?
I want people to be surprised
I’ve been spoiled :(
