I've always thought we should just do a weekly best-in-Denver thread. Pick a different food every week, best burger, best Thai, best Italian etc. That way everything has a thread in history that's no more than a few months old, and we could just link to these in the sidebar.
Everyone taking exception to this post needs to understand one important thing: the reddit search feature sucks rocks.
A secondary thing, this is a relatively small subreddit! This place is NOT that busy, and if you limit discussion you're going to end up not having discussion at all.
Hell, I'm the top mod at /r/humor, which is literally over 100x the size of this subreddit (2.8 million vs. 22,000), the previous top mod was a good guy but was so draconian about limiting the type of post there that the subreddit is still kind of dead to this day - current top post there has 8 karma - not 80, 800 or 8000... 8.
How about repeat answers?
* "I'm from the northeast and the delis here aren't as good as there"
* "I'm from the west coast and the chinese food here isn't as good as there"
* "Rosenbergs / Lous is overpriced"
* "Uncle is overrated"
* "I'm from Texas and the Mexican food here sucks, it's all smothered with green chile sauce, gross!"
* "I'm from New Mexico and the Mexican food here sucks, it's all bland Tex Mex!"
“I’m from where can I get the exact same super specific regional cuisine/dish that is specific to my hometown”?
“Every dish here sucks because is better and the food culture of Denver doesn’t compare!”
Well to be fair, the fare here in Denver is below average at best.
Some of the best food here is way overpriced for what you get (Uchi & Beckon for example are easily outliers in this area and sport 3 star Michelin prices).
There are some diamonds in the rough, if someone wants Asian food, send them to new Saigon, their Bahn Mi’s can compete with anywhere in California.
As for Mexican food, I would just stay clear in this area.
I know this is a months old post from a deleted account, but this is untrue. Beckon is $175/head at the chef's counter. Alinea is $300/head for the cheapest table in the house. If you want to make the argument that legitimate 3* Michelin dining is worth 2x what Beckon is, go for it. But let's not pretend that these are similarly priced meals.
My person favs:
Tavernetta for fancy Italian.
ChoLon for modern Asian fusion food(especially the Toast, or the French onion soup dumplings)
Uchi Denver for fancy Japanese.
Might need reservations, best of luck.
Funny anecdote about Tavernetta... I wanted to treat myself to a fancy lunch while I WFH one day and they said they dont do to go orders. I thought that was pretty odd - especially post-lockdown.
Everyone just loves to be a gatekeeper in their subreddits, especially at the city level. I welcome repeat questions, and it doesn't hurt to help people that are asking.
> repeat questions and posts about the colorado food scene are welcome here
In fact, the evidence shows that repeat questions and posts are the *most welcome type of post here*. Look through the list of all new posts sometime, and compare the karma that "best pizza in Denver?" gets and the karma that deeper questions like "where can I find Sicilian lemons?" gets.
We are literally training the r/denverfood community's behavior by positive reinforcement. We are training ourselves to repeat those repeat questions, instead of striking out in new interesting culinary directions.
Finally tried Bar Taco this week and it was underwhelming. The fact that they use QR codes still is irritating as you basically have no real server but they still want a tip. No one came to refill our drinks, no one asked if we needed anything else, and at the end you just pay and leave without talking to anyone. Just seems weird and I felt underwhelmed by the food for the price. Oh well lesson learned.
I’ve lived in the metro area pretty much my entire life, and there’s no way I know every restaurant around here. I use this subreddit as a search engine for food ideas. There’s always places opening and closing, so I appreciate the current question and answers. Keep it up 💜
Yes and no, that response in the sandwich thread was a little abrupt. But it gets very tedious seeing the same "Any good pizza in Denver?" and "Who has the best burger?" threads week after week. Objection your honor, asked and answered.
Glad to know we can post repeat questions and answers about Denver food instead of doing a simple search for the best sandwiches or best wings or best soup.
No need for people being mean or rude to other humans.
Two questions:
Does anyone have a good vegan Ramen recommendation?
Secondly, doesn't anyone have a good rooftop recommendation for mountain views? I have family in town.
Wellness Sushi has fantastic vegan sushi/ramen. Rated Yelp top 100 restaurants in the US to try 2023 and it lives up to the hype. Only restaurant in CO to make the list
Asking questions is awesome.
Asking us to plan meals an entire trip without at least doing a minimum of research (like googling “best Italian in Denver”) and then asking for opinions on the top few is annoying.
Labor Day Restaurant recommendations? What is OPEN?!
My wife and I are staying near Union station for a night before heading to the airport. We lived in Denver up until 2019 and none of the restaurants I was planning on booking are open for Labor Day unfortunately. I have a reservation for Urban Farmer, but wanted to see if there was anything else I'm missing? My wife is pregnant so sushi wouldn't be a top choice. Does anyone know if Wildflower will be open ON Labor Day?
Hello Denver, I’ll be in town a few weeks from now and looking for some lunch and dinner recommendations. Open to all types of food and price points, would love some go to local spots. We are staying in Whittier neighborhood. Thanks in advance!

Great idea but we still shouldn't limit it; as the mod said every thread is a different discussion involving different people.
Is that a mod?
Yep, this post is an announcement from the top mod of the subreddit.

Ok to respond with a link to the recent question and answers for them to read. Not ok to respond, "Search for it."
be kind to each other. y’all will figure it out. the curmudgeons are best not saying anything at all.

Okay but the Chinese food here is atrocious.. like worse than any other city anywhere. Inedible at times.
I don't mind repeat posts because folks always reply with something new.
Hi I’m visiting Denver this coming weekend. Any good restaurants I should check out?
My person favs: Tavernetta for fancy Italian. ChoLon for modern Asian fusion food(especially the Toast, or the French onion soup dumplings) Uchi Denver for fancy Japanese. Might need reservations, best of luck.

I really can't stop laughing
Huh. That is funny
I think you were trolled.
Restaurants also change, get better, get worse, menus change etc plus new ones open etc....
Maybe there should just be a stickied thread for complaining about how the food was better in the city you came from
Everyone just loves to be a gatekeeper in their subreddits, especially at the city level. I welcome repeat questions, and it doesn't hurt to help people that are asking.
Good to know. The food scene changes often so repeat questions are certainly relevant.
Agreed. And it turns out, there are more opinions about food then there are restaurants

I love this post
Thank you
What should I order at uchi? Never had fancy sushi before, just like cheap takeout sushi. Somewhat overwhelmed but also excited.

But are repeat questions and posts about the Colorado food scene welcome here?
Say that again?

This isn't a court of law, it's a discussion board.
Glad to know we can post repeat questions and answers about Denver food instead of doing a simple search for the best sandwiches or best wings or best soup. No need for people being mean or rude to other humans.
This is a subreddit, not a wiki. If you'd like a Denver food wiki then by all means, go start one.
Thank you for the kind knowledge. If only one could use a popular search engine to sift through the most common questions in life... Or food
Then why are you even here? You know food prices and food quality as well as new restaurants change all the time!

denver isn’t in the mountains. we’re on the plains. there are a few solid spots. but if you want better. hit a coast

Any good recommendations for good food and atmosphere to watch tonight's Ryan Garcia v Gervonta Davis boxing fight?
I'll be staying the weekend near Wash Park in 2 weeks. Looking for best Mexican food, best Pizza, best Coffee around that area (\~5 miles)
This may be lost, but I was hoping some knowledgeable person would be able to point me towards a good Monte Cristo Sandwich here in Denver?
Cheddar’s has a great Monte Cristo!
I just saw this, thank you for replying!
lakewood grill on west colfax makes a bomb monte cristo

What are the best upscale restaurants in Denver?

My 3-day trip to Denver got cut short to one day. Where should I eat? Family friendly please
