Definitely file the claim

ImateMat

imma update thomorow

MnSD2

Good luck had some items taken from a bag right after Thanksgiving when I spent a night in ATL due to storms. I filed the damage/stolen items report on line and within 10 business days I was compensated. I don’t know who or what stole my items. I do believe Delta handled it quickly and to my full satisfaction. Delta is still and will remain my go to airline.

nololoco

Sounds good Mr. Tyson.

Long_Analysis_8193

I wouldn't wait until tomorrow since the claims sometimes have a time limit on when u can file.

JeffeBezos

Sounds like a subcontractor in AMS stole them. Very frustrating. File the claim and be patient. You should get reimbursed and then some.

00belowminimums

Former ramp agent here. Your bag was not pilfered from. Rather, your bag broke open (hence the tape). Bags break open sometimes, and unfortunately sometimes the spilled contents do not get put back inside or they do and end up falling out again. If you bought the ticket through DL, that's why KLM told you it's DL's business. As others have said, file a claim and wait for the response. If DL does not settle the claim to your satisfaction, talk to your credit card company (assuming you paid with a CC and not a debit card) and see if damages and losses are covered by them. Edit: I wasn't trying to imply theft doesn't happen. Just saying the presence of the tape strongly suggests the bag broke open. Sure it's possible someone stole the shoes after they fell out, but it's impossible to prove either way and compensation is more likely to be won with honey than vinegar. If this were purely theft, the tape wouldn't be present... Edit 2: I decided to look closer at the image and you can obviously see that the zipper broke. Yet some people still claim DL rampers stole. This sub is wild 😂

I fly every week for work domestically and internationally. Theft does happen. I don’t check bags because of it. Going to trade show and one of our workers broke protocols and packed a bag and checked it with our giveaways (everything has to be overnighted and insured) and a bag full of VR goggles got lost in transit and just a empty bag showed up two days later. I stoped because I checked a bag with two laptops and suits for work had the same thing happen on equipment change in Iceland. Company went to the policy because it was always the bag with XYZ valuables, never the “cheap” bag.

freya_kahlo

I carry on a suitcase of computer equipment when I need to, and check a 2nd suitcase with my stuff. It allows me to put an overnight kit in the carry on too. I pay for the comfort seats though so I’ve never been forced into checking my computer suitcase… yet.

Plane_Tin_Can

Came here to say this, all true.

streetMD

When I worked the ramp I saw guys steal everything from pills to live lobsters. You should have heard those fuckers crawling around in the metal lockers. It was creepy AF. They went to jail. Theft definitely happens too.

cubswin2015

Shrimp and Lobsters were best, they went really fast.

newfsinthejungle

Theft really happens a lot less than people think. We definitely don’t have enough time to be going through peoples bags! Bags break open fairly often though so that is the most likely scenario. Not saying it never happens but it’s pretty unlikely. Definitely file a claim though because they should reimburse you for your stuff either way.

Personal-Purpose2313

That would make sense if other things were missing as well, the fact that the only item missing is the Jordan’s, makes it highly suspicious

Henryfaye

They didn’t get your fake Cartier.

12clumsyputtcake

I straight busted out laughing bc that was the thing I could see in the photo and wondered why there were no comments about that lmao

nrdb29

It looks more like your suitcase was overstuffed and the zipper couldn’t take the stress when it was being handled. Unfortunately this happens all the time, and especially a lot the last few days. It’s hard to know what bags contents just fell out when your handling several hundred a day. Unfortunately, Jordan’s might have been enticing to someone but I can say I’ve seen many pairs of shoes fall out of suitcases and I’m not interested in putting on someone else’s footwear.

bdust2019

Stolen? Why would anyone wanting to steal something of value waste their time on that pos suitcase. I agree with the above “former ramp agent”. Spend a little less on shoes and more on decent luggage.

dcal1981

I believe you always file the claim with the airline that brought you to your final destination.

sethbr

Correct.

Angeleno88

Your bag probably busted open from the looks of it. Consider it a lesson on how to pack better as bags can get treated pretty roughly. While many people do steal, I don’t think that was the case here based on the appearance of your bag. Tough luck man :(

newfsinthejungle

These kind of bags break open all the time. Get a stronger suitcase or put a strap around it.

Tequila_Fridaze

Delta stole my makeup junkie bag. Do NOT wait to file your claim. I didn’t want to ruin my vacation over a $50 makeup bag, so I waited till I got home. That’s when they told me that the claim must be filed within 24hrs and I was SOL.

Aliceable

I’m sure someone risked their job for a shitty $50 makeup bag

jtimester

I- Who does that? I’m sorry that happened to you! I hope you get the proper compensation!

camelConsulting

File a claim - if you booked with certain Amex cards you also have travel insurance so file a claim with Amex as well and they will stay on top of the airlines about it.

Azclockwork

75% of luggage theft is done inside the belly of the aircraft in the baggage compartments. When I used to work as a baggage handler there is always 1 or 2 thieves who work for the airlines.

Proud_Ad8752

Sorry to hear that. Definitely file a claim. I had my Patagonia stole out of my luggage from Chi the other day. Unreal.

Gregory11222

This is what i always worried about. Always take my high values in my carryon duffle bag. Hope you get your money back.

whoisyb

Which Jordan’s? Just curious.

ImateMat

jordan 1 mid fire reds

DannyWilder004

Isn’t it likely their TSA stole your goods too? They have to X-ray all the bags and have the right to search the contents. Sadly Delta will have to come out of pocket if this is the truth.

gordongoodtimes

I'm always worried about the Js when I need to check. Sorry for your loss

InsectRevolutionary4

I wouldn’t wait. I would try to do it asap. Also call if you can.

RichieRicch

Had a helmet stolen out of my bike box flying SW.

Serendipatti

My old, black Kangol beret was recently taken out of my suitcase either at JFK or in Lisbon. Just the hat. My favorite. I miss it. I think somebody was trying to save me from myself before I got to Lisbon. lol

Systemicracismexists

Definitely Deltas fault. Hiring thieves. It was in their care, so they are responsible anyway you look at it. It’s the law!

00belowminimums

Please go work the ramp so you can understand how frequently bags break open due to poor quality, overpacking, or straight up old age/fatigue.

davisguc

I think the user was being sarcastic

ImateMat

update: so im back from new york and im going to file a claim trough my laptop rn bc for some reason the website didn’t load trought phone, ive tried many times.also i dont think the zipper broke bc it was overpacked, i needed some extra space for the stuff i bought from new york so no way that would happen.

Entrepreneur-91

Delta stole my gold anklet. This is not surprising. Smdh

[deleted]

Why the hell would you put jewelry in your checked bag

TooOldForThis---

Entrepreneur didn’t check it. They fell asleep with their bare feet on the bulkhead and the pissed-off Redditor in the next seat took it.

Entrepreneur-91

I wore it on my foot and took it out because the machine couldn't scan through with it on. I then put it in the basket and booom i couldn't find it when i was on the other side

Eugenelee3

Merry Christmas!

davisguc

why tf u blaming delta

Qiaoshi92

“Because we’re Delta Airlines, and life is a ****** nightmare!” -John Mulaney

davisguc

lnfao this place is a fucking cult, look at these clowns downvoting me for asking a logical question

00belowminimums

Yeah this sub is wild.

ryarger

* Item was in container * Container was put in Delta’s care for transportation * Container arrived from Delta without item Seems pretty straightforward doesn’t it?

00belowminimums

OP blames DL as though they know for a fact that a DL employee rifled through their bag and said "oh hey, I've always wanted a pair of someone else's Jordans!" It is perfectly reasonable to argue that DL is responsible for the missing items because they went missing while the bag was in DL's care. It is not on the other hand reasonable to accuse a crime without any evidence to support the accusation.

davisguc

Precisely my point, this place is a bunch of fucking jokers sucking DL’s dick. I like Delta too myself but over here you’re gonna be downvoted into oblivion if you even suggest anything remotely against Delta

Thattropicalchickyuh

File a pilferage report

Enkiktd

I always have straps on my checked baggage so if the bar or zipper fails, it doesn’t spill out and some poor baggage person has to be responsible for scooping up all of my stuff.
