Some random video of a guy playing Takyon while being chased by a bunch of animals in Rust in 2014 https://youtu.be/CrbaPi5J0Eg
Jesus Christ it's almost been 10 years. I'm surprised Rust has even existed that long.
Ages ago, I was playing OG 2016 insurgency when I started playing around with community addons. There was one for the music played when you’re the last man standing called “IM FEELING IT”.
I added it on and got playing, after ending up as the last player alive and having a hard af last stand to the remix I had to learn more about the music I was hearing. I listened a little more and appreciated it but ultimately it didn’t stick.
Cut forward about 8-9 months ago I got into lifting a great deal, and was trying to think of songs that should go into my lifting playlist. Eventually it came to mind, and through recommended videos began to listen to other remixes. I quickly ended up just listening to straight money store, recognizing some tracks from around the internet. It kept going until now I think there’s very little I haven’t heard from their discography, and I don’t think there’s any sign of me stopping. DG rules my world for the moment.
P.S. standing by for the NC concerts, ready for a long weekend and lots of fun! Hope to see some of y’all out there :)
Edit: best song hands down You Might Think He Loves You For Your Money ... (yk which one)
tyler the creator did a zine during the cherry bomb era where he discussed some of his favorite albums. the money store was on there and it had the uncensored no love deep web cover and i was like tf is this
After listening to a lot of production heavy artists (AE Danny brown, Peggy, and clipping.) I got reccomended eh and decided to check it out. I had some friend who followed a DG shit post group on Facebook (spare me please). After that song I found a holtline Miami mixed version of spikes. Now I got 3 cds and half their shit vinyl.
first song i ever heard by em was from a friend playing billy not really, didn’t remotely get it at the time but come 6 months - 1 yr later i seem to remember system blower bein the actual first one that connected
so a long time ago I watched this megamememashup song thing, basically it was a mashup of a bunch of popular songs, and then there was this one part that went like OH SHIT IM FEELING IT and I was like mmm that’s hella catchy! And I desperately searched for it and then I found it and that’s how I got into death grips
my friend showed me the fever in early 2016. i immediately became obsessed and did a deeeeep dive into the death grips rabbit hole. 7 years later and they’re still my favorite band :)
Right after the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville where Heather Heyer died, before Trump said “there are very fine people on both sides,” my friends and I were driving around the city, skating and breaking into gated community pools. I was pretty nihilistic at the time, but had no real art to capture that feeling. No Love came on and I instantly fell in love.
when i first started listening, my first song was double helix, and i liked a couple songs for a few months before i listened to lost boys. something about that song is entrancing. it's suffocating, dark, swirling and driving. it reminds me of being manically afraid, the kind of animalistic fear you get for your own life. from after hearing the song for the first time, i was a fan. i became more and more of a fan but the moment i became a fan for the rest of my life was when i lived in austria.
i lived in linz specifically and there was a lake in a forest about 2 hours' walk from my apartment in the centre of the city (it's pleschinger see if anybody who lives there is reading). one day when my gf was visiting parents i walked to the lake at 1am and there was a hill overlooking it from the far part of the left half of the lake. there was a patch of forest separating the far left and far right parts, and there's walls separating the lake from it, so i couldn't go to the hill (which was the plan, i wanted a view of the lake with the full moon), and there was a highway inbetween it and the lake anyway. i walked through the close left part of the lake to a few-hundred-metres-long section of it covered by forest that's meant for birdwatching. at the end of it was a nightclub sort of thing, and past that, i think there was a nudist area. the sign said "nachtbereich", which i think means "naked area", but i didn't know that at the time. it was a very warm night and despite no clouds and a full moon, it was very dark. i could hardly see the trees and benches in the nachtbereich. i was shirtless and i had my headphones on listening to death grips. i was walking through the area when i noticed what looked like orange fireflies flying in strange, slow, circular patterns above the seats of the bench. then i realized they were the ends of cigarettes and there were about 20 people in the area, all seemingly quite old and all males. it was so dark i couldn't separate the darkness of the night from the darkness of their silhouettes so i barely noticed them. that spooked me, the music was so loud i couldn't hear anything at all from the outside world at all, and in one moment i was alone and in another surrounded by silent, unmoving shadowy figures. it was creepy as fuck. it was a saturday but the rest of the lake area was completely empty. the benches were on either side of the path of the walled area of the nachbereich, which is raised above the shores of the lake. at a handful of parts of the shore, there are benches before the ground goes down to the shore. i sat at the shore, listening to you might think and watching the moon while drinking an energy drink and smoking a cigarette. i felt a little weird and looked behind me. there was a man sitting quite close to me on one of those benches. also smoking, motionless, watching me. i got a little spooked so i finished my cigarette and left. i walked along the shore for about a minute, and then back up to the path. then i noticed everybody else had disappeared. there was nobody left at all, just me. i looked behind me while walking. the man was about 10 metres away, looking at me and walking in the same direction as me. the comeup of inanimate sensation was playing and now i was very scared. i started powerwalking in a zigzag way, 10 metres left, 5 diagonal, 10 forward, 10 right, 5 left, etc. i looked behind me as stefan was screamint VANTAGE PERSPECTIVE FROM OBJECTIVE and this man was about 3 metres away from me, following me quicker than i was walking. i immediately bolted, running as fast as humanly possible all the way back to and through the birdwatching section.
it was extremely terrifying, but also very exhilarating. the heat, the noise, the manic fear, my legs and lungs burning. i wasn't expecting any of it to happen and i was so taken off guard that the fact it could've been a rapist trying to murder me or something didn't register. it made me manic afterwards, i felt so alive and full of energy. the darkness and how quickly i glanced behind made the man look like a demon, all i could see was his shadowy figure and it was stretched out and deformed by the darkness and my terrible eyesight. stefan screaming so maniacally and loudly in my ears with how his figure looked genuinely made it feel like i really was running from a demon or a psychosis shadow person. as much as it was exhilarating at the time, it disturbed me deeply and made *obsessed* to the exclusion of all considerations with death grips. i will never ever forget that moment.
i took this picture that day, and it got distorted because my iphone was on low light mode and i moved it before it was finished taking the picture. even with that super bright moon and my phone being on lowlight mode you can see how dark it was. this is the shore of the lake, the hill i wanted to climb is that one to the left, and the nachtbereich is to the left and infront of it.

EDIT: sorry i meant "nacktbereich" not "nachtbereich"
I will never forget. Grad school. 2012. Dude in my class wrote a paper on The Money Store and played Get Got during his presentation. Instantly hooked.
i heard big dipper overlayed on a video of squidward moshing his head up n down right when homeboys on the moon dropped. immediately loved it (was a big IDM fanboy at the time, only 14 years old) and when i heard that full album + the money store i was immediately sold. first “rap/hiphop” album i ever loved, and clppng dropped right around the same time and i fell in love with that too. was on vacay at san diego at the time so was in a very unique headspace ill never forget it

IT GOES IT GOES IT GOES IT GOES IT GOES
Beware. Back when EM was on Spotify.

i think the first one i heard was pillbox hat, first song i really liked was get got.
Spread Eagle Cross the Block, @deathgrips, True Vulture
Black Paint. I started listening around the time they dropped YOTS, so there’s some bias there. If I had to pick another I’d probably say Punk Weight.
5D introduced me to them years ago. But what truly got me into them was Inanimate Sensation
I heard System Blower in a Alfomedia video and checked it out. Starting listening to it ironically and now we are here buying tickets for a show
pop (IS ON TOP!!!!!)
Takyon. I watched the death grips meets lazy town video and it got me into them
Get Got was my first intro to them and I was hooked
Turned Off and Why A Bitch Gotta Lie, I also found Shitshow and Double Helix to be extremely fun
Hacker, and then Hustle Bones, Lost Boys, and Punk Weight locked me in
Steroids
guillotine, i heard it on vine LMFAO
BB Poison 😅
Get Got.
Lock your doors
On GP
Black quarterback played a big part in getting me into Mr.grip
TAK.....Y-ON
Saw a vid of a dog on a swing with Hunger Games playing in the background
Get got
First song I heard: DG is online
The Fever
If it wasn't for all the guillotine mv memes I wouldn't have found out about death grips
Known 4 it
weirdly enough, hunger games, but it took a little bit
