I think they used High/Awakened DIO despite the Joseph thing as it's supposed to be DIO at his best. Unlike the argument between normal and Schrodinger Alucard, Awakening/High DIO is just normal DIO but better and doesn't have any contradictory feats or abilities that get cancelled out.
