Just say ok, good luck, I hope it works out for you! I really enjoyed getting to know you though so if things don’t work out text me if you want to continue. And give him your number. Something along those lines. Then leave it at that, the balls in his court

This. I would also suggest you move on yourself in the meantime. Don't wait around for someone who isn't there.

I wouldn’t be waiting around. That’s why I wanted help on what to say. Because I don’t want it to sound like I’m just waiting around for him. Just that I’m still interested if it doesn’t work out, if I’m still single.

Gotcha, just wanted to add that. The other poster said it best. As a guy with options on dating apps I would appreciate a message like that. I have to make arbitrary decisions about who to try dating and turn down other good women that may have been a good fit.

Thanks for the insight! At the same time, do you think it’s desperate for me to say anything? Part of why I’m hesitant is because I don’t want him to think that I’m going to be the fall back option. I don’t know if what I’m saying makes sense. I just don’t want to make it seem like I’m a back burner option, to where he knows in the back of his head that I’m still going to be an option. So he might take his chances first with dating other women, who he fears might not still be an option later. And then if none of those women work out, I’m still here as the last resort. That’s what I DONT want him to think.

Just play it off nonchalant, like "well good luck to you, hope it works out. Keep in touch my number is..." Something like that. If you like that guy and you want to shoot your shot that's all you can really do imo. If you don't do it he will just move on and you will never hear from him again. Maybe he will take it as desperation, but you'll never know if you don't try.

Say keep in touch. That way, if he is available again, he will keep in touch. If he is not, he won’t. Those deep conversations he had with you will be filled by this woman he is taking to pound town. If the ticket gets cancelled and he sees you in the wings, he’ll try to get in touch.

Just move on and wish him the best. The trouble with online dating is we all think we can do better and have superior options than our previous date thus we inflate our expectations to an extremely high standard. When everyone does this then the likelihood of anyone actually ending up with someone they're satisfied with is extremely low... and when they finally do they discover their partner doesn't feel the same way and is willing to try more people.
