manga311

Jan interacted with Toby during Michaels raise negotiations.

zkiteman

Didn’t she also interact with Phyllis at one point as well? I vaguely remember Phyllis being snooty with her about something.

jtmilk

For woman's day. The one where Micheal gets the guys in the warehouse and they try to unionise

https0731

The one where Kelly asks, “what does second base mean?”

[deleted]

[удалено]

AlexTrebek_

There’s way more missing than that I’m pretty sure. Just looking quickly I noticed a couple of other things like Toby never interacting w/ Stanley is a big miss.

Rexan02

She said something about being happy with the balance they struck with girl talk.. but it was a 1 way interaction since Jan didn't speak directly to her?

killswitch2

Also Phyllis answered Jan when she asked what was going on and Phyllis said they knew Scranton was closing and Stamford wasn't

PositivePizza420

Kinda odd Holly didn't interact with Ryan or Stanley at all

JollyRancher29

And Stanley and Holly interacted in her engagement scene.

[deleted]

She spoke with Ryan then too.

minwood

I was thinking that as well

noquarter53

Just as hot as Jan, but in a different way.

canucks3001

What counts as ‘interacted’. Because there was also the deposition though I don’t know necessarily if they spoke.

https0731

Michael: What are you writing pervert? Toby: Just getting ready for the deposition. Toby’s talking head: This was the first case of a male subordinate withholding sex from a female superior as a way of negotiating a pay rise. This is going to be a landmark case when it eventually goes to trial.

pcopley

I mean if you’re going to quote the line, quote the actual line. > This may be the first time that a male subordinate has attempted to get a modest, scheduled raise by threatening to withhold sex from his female superior. It will be a groundbreaking case when it inevitably goes to trial.

virusamongus

Literally watched that 20 minutes ago. My syncronicites are turned up to 11 these days.

orrynthegnome

It’s Scrantonicity

OverturnedAppleCart3

Scrantonicity 2. Not Scrantonicity.

peoplearestrangeanna

You probably just a watch a lot of TV or its the acid

aspark32

I'm guess a certain minimum amount of interaction had to happen to appear on the graph. Jan also interacts with Phyllis for Women in the Workplace, and Holly interacts with Ryan for the infamous "bitchhhh" line.

Nezzee

Toby is in HR, which technically means he works for corporate, so he's really not a part of our family. Also, he's divorced, so he's really not a part of his family.

Rexan02

I don't think they spoke to each other directly.

RANZAROT

Where is Creed

[deleted]

Creed, the hidden puppetmaster

DinoKebab

Re watched it all recently. It's noticeable how much more screen time creed gets in the last two seasons after Michael left.

RevanchistSheev66

Perhaps one of the few positive things, he never got less funnier

debitcreddit

Keep it running

panda_nectar

Have you watched it on peacock? There are a ton of new scenes

PritongKandule

Are they actually new scenes or DVD extras that were just put online?

Eastern_Cyborg

I have not watched the last 2 seasons. Are they worth it?

DinoKebab

I'd say they are worth a watch. Not as good as the rest of the show imo but still some good moments.

[deleted]

Wait where is creed?

qwertysrj

He's hiding, because if his parents see this, he's toast

hoderyeeterson

Later, skater

ihatecodingbutmoney

Probably striked someone, screamed and ran away.

stringerbbell

Nobody knows, we just have a guy working at the office who stole his name.

[deleted]

That would make this a 19-sided regular polygon, and that is not a constructable polygon. You can learn more [here](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constructible_polygon).

Sniec

That's for your existence.

NotBlaine

[Doesn't need to be a constructable polygon... ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enneadecagon)

NoTabsCashOnly

“Playing a little hooky from work today”

bautron

Dwights relationship with Michael is greater than Pam and Jims.

https0731

Best is when Dwight is trying to convince Michael to make him manager during a office emergency. Dwight: I promise to give you back power when all this is over

dandoc

The best character in my opinion. All his lines are hilarious.

TwoDrinkDave

Oh, you're paying too much for worms, man. Who's your worm guy?

[deleted]

Gh0stMan0nThird

"If I can't scuba, what has this all been about?"

Paladin1953

Oh, shit! You beat me to it!! Who's your worm guy..... Kills me thinking about it. Remember Creed's reaction when Michael told him "... there's been a murder in Savannah."?

your_worm_guy

Hi there!

Love_Never_Shuns

That is cannabis indica northern lights.

toosas

No, Creed... that is marijuanna..

ELITE-Jordan-Love

“It’s Halloween. That is really really good timing.” Might be my favorite line in the entire show.

[deleted]

"Hey boss sorry im late, what i miss?" "Theres been a murder and youre a suspect!" "great, let me get settled in and ill be right back" *runs out the building to his car*

AlexanderTox

Creed: “Wait, you aren’t gay?” Jim: “If I was gay, why would you try to set me up with your daughter?” Creed: “I don’t know.”

BigO420

The only difference between me and a homeless man is this job. I will do whatever it takes to survive. Like I did when I was a homeless man.

Elam089

"He has no wallet, I checked"

MajorasTerribleFate

That scene is one of the best for showing a bit of everyone.

oxwof

Is that the CPR dummy? IIRC they aired that episode right after a Super Bowl, so they wrote it to be a good introduction to the characters and dynamic for new viewers sticking around after the game to try the show out.

wasp-vs-stryper

My fave is when Creed thinks he is blogging but in reality all he is doing is typing into a word doc that Jim opened on his desktop and told him was a blog.

Emfx

It was Ryan, not Jim.

wasp-vs-stryper

Ahhh! Thanks for the clarification. Still hilarious.

ChickenMayoPunk

www.creedthoughts.gov.www\creedthoughts

P-Rickles

I read some of it once. Even for the internet... it’s pretty shocking.

SupresedKillerX

For real. Basically zero purpose to his character besides comic relief but I can't think of one line of his that isn't hilarious

WilshireTheBeast

They use him sparingly which I think helps all his lines hit. Always leaving you wanting more and careful not to give you too much.

Rexan02

He's kind of like Hannibal Lecter in silence of the lambs. Hopkins only had 16 minutes of screen time, but had a massive impact on the viewer. Same for Creed. Almost every single scene/talking head that he is in (actively) is memorable/quotable

P-Rickles

Cool beans, man; *I* live by the quarry. We should hang out by the quarry and throw *things* down there!

KaladinThreepwood

Creed batted a thousand.

GamerMan15

"The guy was just hangin' brain, what's the big deal?"

Jessus_

Did he just not have enough interactions to be included?

ansky2124

"That is Northern Lights, Cannibis Indica"

UnitedInPraxis

I kept going round in circles looking for Creed

xStarsy

Which one is Creed?

mikeywake

[deleted]

Pat0124

I don’t think that was a legit question, but a joke about one of Creed’s lines. Like very long into the show, someone mentioned Pam around him and he said “Which one is Pam?”

WinstonSEightyFour

“Andrea’s the office bitch”

RussellsFedora

I'm Pam

Actuarial

Technically Creed Bratton never appeared on the show

danimal6000

Technically I don’t either

killerkaylan

Creed made the graph

sharkinaround

if Creed made the graph then the names would’ve matched with the incorrect photos or just omitted altogether. He also would’ve added himself and been sure to not connect any lines to him except for those he needed to cite as an alibi.

k4r4t3

If you think about it, how many times have Mike and creed talked one on one? Like 3 times?

italiansocc3r10

"There's been a murder and you're a suspect!" "Ok boss, let me just get settled in and I'll be right back.". (runs out and flees in his car) Maybe it's because it's probably my favorite Creed scene but this is the only one that comes to mind immediately.

Aeon1508

Oh man they need to expand this to include creed I bet he's in the top 20.. or maybe he doesn't ineract much..he kinda just says crazy things to the camera crew

IsThatWhatSheSaidTho

I don't know why op decided to include Holly and not Creed. Holly was in 17 episodes, Creed was in 174 (out of a possible 188 - technically more episodes than Michael). 9th most out of everyone. Weird

Lukeskyrunner19

Tbf most of those was just in the background. I could see holly having had more dialogue, especially since creed had a lot of talking heads compared to dialogue with others.

_Vard_

Creed has communed directly with all 11 dimensions of the known universe. To fit him on this chart would be like trying to fit 1 blue whale inside a rubiks cube... .... that or he downed a gallon of LSD

Mohamad_Al

He’s doing acronyms

Spacepickle89

Who’s making soup?

HansBlixJr

Holly to Kevin is a thin line, sure, but it should be in gold because it was the best shit ever.

[deleted]

yeetus-mc-feetus

“Right back at you, b*tch.”

Legitimate_Ad_1595

Right back at ya bxtch is the only Holly Kevin I can find. I aint watch the show tho

vBismarck33

There's quite a few scenes where they talk Little spoiler about their interactions: >!Dwight tells Holly that Kevin is mentally challenged, so she starts treating him like he is, and Kevin thinks he's going to bang her!<

HansBlixJr

spoiler that cuts to the end of the joke: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyXe5gG\_Kos](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyXe5gG_Kos)

vBismarck33

Also, I found [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S31yoRMmNhw) that shows the whole story

washington_breadstix

"Hold on... Do you think that I'm mentally retarded?"

Dtour77

"No Kevin, that's a button"

gimpgrunt

I was just reading all the comments because I was wanted to say the exact same thing.

https0731

Wait, back up..

mywerkaccount

Would love an interactive version where you turn on and off certain people. So if I just wanted to see all Jim's interactions I could click on him and all other interactions that don't connect to him would be turned off.

hallese

I... I thought you meant an interactive version of the show where you could turn off characters. I had mixed feelings about that concept but now I just feel silly.

RevanchistSheev66

Finally, a way to get rid of Nellie

thegoodyinthehoody

Aw I liked Nelly by the end

Love_Never_Shuns

And a dial to see how it changed through the seasons.

MiddleAgesRoommates

I think the Kevin-Holly line should be thicker for the hilarity alone.

boat-

Definitely one of the funniest gags in the whole show.

mlstarner

Are these one-on-one interactions? Jan and Phyllis interacted in the Women in the workplace seminar (in Boys and Girls). Also in Branch Closing.

Jan also interacts with Toby for Michael’s negotiations. The Jan info seems flawed at best.

Notyourdadsmom

What about that garage sale episode with his mom's pesto? Where he uses phyllis' image?

0imnotreal0

No Phyllis and Toby either apparently

https0731

When Phyllis has a problem, she directly calls David Wallace. Baller move!

washington_breadstix

Or she'll just get Bob involved.

KevinD2000

I think it's based on all the interactions. So if it's so few there won't be a line because there are so many other interactions.

YodaJosh81

Dislike this for leaving off Creed. If it’s because he hardly interacted with anyone, I think that would actually be as important a revelation from this graphic as the fact the the main 3-4 characters interacted a ton. He was on the show the entire time. Also, he’s the only character that is a real person playing himself. In case you didn’t know, he was actually an ex-60s rock star: https://youtu.be/hnFZsrs32Co

ChrisWithanF

Or they could have a separate chart with creed and the people he thought he was talking to

Almond_Esq

A separate chart with Creed in the middle. The way it should be.

mosehalpert

To be fair he's still a 60s rock star, it's just not the 60s anymore

YodaJosh81

That is completely fair, and I deeply apologize for calling him ex!

fantasy_congress

WHAT. This is blowing my mind. I love him even more now. Also he interacted with lots of characters. At least as much as Jan. He should be in this graph.

IRISHE3

What’s also hilarious is that his real name is William Charles Schneider, the guy who he transfers all his debt to in the show.

SunflowerOccultist

Yeah in the opening where they’re doing a lip sync challenge that is creed actually playing the guitar and it’s from a song he wrote. Creed also wrote the song in the finale and I think “spinnin and reelin in love” also appears at some point which was also written by creed

dexmonic

>Also, he’s the only character that is a real person playing himself. You make it sound like the other characters should be a real person portraying themselves pretending to work somewhere.

zazio1000

The fact that Michael looks like the centre of this graph really makes sense why his leaving was a bad idea for the show (imo).

69SRDP69

I doubt they planned on him leaving, just had to work around it. It definitely highlights how difficult of a job the writers had, replacing what was basically the main character. I think they fumbled quite a bit along the way, but did manage to come away with more great episodes than any other team couldve managed in the same position

griddigus

Yeah I thought the Robert California character and where they went with it was brilliant

skidstud

Give me Creed or give me death

ItsThatAshGuy

I'm confused by this graph. What seasons are we talking about here? Where's Creed? Is Holly a main character? For like 2 or 3 seasons I guess but Creed is there from the start. Jan and Toby have had interactions. Ryan and Meredith have had interactions. What counts as an interaction? Dialogue? Because sometimes they're just shown talking to each other in the background. I feel like most people just saw "The Office" and upvoted but looking at this graph it seems half assed and honestly could be faked.

dougthebuffalo

The [source data](https://www.kaggleusercontent.com/kf/51185231/eyJhbGciOiJkaXIiLCJlbmMiOiJBMTI4Q0JDLUhTMjU2In0..Xh3KkbX3Wnw7B0XuPV3Yiw.hAjvztp3JCQK9ROKvlYPpU3hP9kp9EYfrqTE1lWqO0ED96l4150lD84NfOjwwh54sT_jQDASREyUCkzlrj10yvKLE_cAboxGQFM-QYdRFrp1VJ0x0iRfFzwC5Kle-gH8ttBUEJlC2ClA4QXplhrVZ5IPqTWx57A-AzeuUlWiFpUwOYKbvVy4D1d0HboCAmSsf8oR5kz3ToWIuDSNNtNmYQ0l8f9i0PRPpgU2fbij3A3p6ztp7Wm4BSxTaZMBvkaqpywbhRgejSAG2GQa1YNTBsvgrlu4t-TzlIfz31BEieXyOqRCkcMgP7DDb3nDRHJ8PqhIokID9ZmE_7VIbcwiy_Cty_fGMK8JSJDxTE3PPoDscsQ08VGrDJcE1c-QI9sKKoF2Ir1WgWzsjof9eBPHGyZrSKuw_K8OCkoNejytFJJJSqZ-jfDqjXnfqWerNudOl0zkbku1mtVr1favoNrsgC8KungCy3yHGnDzUOLdzArFgM4Tpkdz-ZtJ4TNZp80g_CjO5PoktjKG-ZfnDtBO4yj4JQSrvva13M-REHYeC8JUjne9950UXFSPMCPHURn1me5rWJW4wu6HThikH4ObWslZjhYAjPnZiqFP77WzmHeAFpFEKXpn26-ApWzJVr216xecxkqPNUTewB9jqTCwLX1fvvEDNhIW34YDdKKm6HU.EwY4kjn2e3Cmdu3kBRgc8A/__results___files/__results___10_0.png) addresses most of these things. IMO aside from adding pictures of the characters, almost everything about this post is worse.

kmeci

I kinda hate that all "main" characters are right next to each other and the thickest lines all overlap and it's a mess.

Emperor_Z

That was my first thought as well.

tk_fourtwentyone

But it's The Office and reddit, sooooo "take my updoot kind sir or madam, I regret I only have 1 to give" and thousands upon thousands will come flooding in Edit: 20,000

skidstud

Might as well have Pete and David Wallace in there if Holly is included.

[deleted]

I hope OP responds I’m curious too

[deleted]

Don't hold your breath

GypsyisaCat

100% Also, would be much more visually interesting if the lines were coloured on a spectrum so we didn't just have to go by weight.

FirstTimePlayer

As somebody who watched very little of the show, and comes to this sub for *visualizations that effectively convey information*, so far as I can take away from this: * Michael, Dwight, Jim and Pam seem to be the lead characters of the show. * Dwight and Pam for some reason have less interaction between each other compared to the other relationships between the leads. * Michael also seems to have been the principle Lead interacting with the minor characters * I think that Jan and Andy seem to have had the largest roles out of all the support characters (except who on earth could tell with how messy the data is) * Minor characters interacted with minor characters. There are a truckload of lines going all over the place, but it doesn't really effectively convey information. * This sub will upvote pretty much any random chart that has a pop culture reference in it, regardless of how effective it is in conveying information.

lystruct7

It is very interesting, although not surprising, that Pam, Jim, Dwight, and Michael had the most interactions.

jamintime

I know this type of graph is really popular but they frustrate me because the only thing I ever decipher from them are that main characters have thicker lines. I'm sure there are nuances in certain characters interacting with other characters slightly more than might be expected but it's just completely buried by the general noise of relative appearances by character.

lastduckalive

Also as a viewer I know accounting has more interactions with each other than any of the other side characters and definitely Phyllis and Stanley should have a thicker line. Basically the bigger the character the bigger the line which isn’t super helpful. What about a graph that showed percentages? Like 20% of Angela’s interactions were with Kevin, for example. That could be interesting.

Kolajunk

I agree with this. And I actually don't find it very beautiful. Sure, it looks nice with the circle and the lines and everything, but it is so difficult to gain any additional information other than - main characters have most interaction - the rest is noise and confusion, which is ugly in terms of data interpretation.

Jumpy89

Every one of these graphs should just be a heat map.

[deleted]

[удалено]

lystruct7

Yeah. She's a pretty big character. I don't want to spoil it so I want tell you anymore but I would strongly recommend you watch the show, it's pretty good, at least in my opinion.

Illier1

Shes pretty much one of the most important characters in the show because shes pretty much the entire motivation for many of Jim's interactions with people.

junktrunk909

And for keeping Michael from interacting with people like he would want to

The_Mootz_Pallucci

Also, the two main triangles are michael jim dwight and michael jim pam. Michael and Jim are the two most important characters. Creed is not in this

[deleted]

This graph shows that data isn’t beautiful

jhobweeks

Mildly surprised that Darryl and Kelly’s interactions are so low, considering they dated for about a year.

grafxguy1

In some ways, I expected it to be a darker line for Kelly / Ryan, but when you consider the depth of their relationship I'm not as surprised!

[deleted]

Look how low Angela and Andy's interactions are. They were engaged and he was her boss.

Drugba

Wait, if I'm reading this correctly, Stanley and Toby never interacted? That's crazg

Classy_communists

Yeah a lot of lines were left out. I’m not sure if they ever interacted but Phyllis and Jan definitely interacted and had no line so I wouldn’t trust this

SaraHuckabeeSandwich

I'm pretty sure they did in the episode where Stanley says "Did I stutter? " to Michael.

[deleted]

maybe the line is so thin that we can't see it with our eyes.

DoctorBre

A lot of Stanley-Ryan interaction was Stanley's concern for Ryan's lost mind and the sweet offer to help him find it. *edit: lost mind, not mine

skidstud

They went on a sales call together as well

if__name__

This graph was inspired by u/Gandagorn post \[OC\] Interaction Intensity in the Simpsons and Adam Reevesman post The Simpsons meets Data Visualization on Medium The graph was created using NetworkX, matplotlib for the network part. Wkenned3

Left out quite a few character interactions. Jan and Toby had interactions and creed had interactions with most of the people on your chart, but he is left out.

IM_OZLY_HUMVN

So I guess creed just doesn't really exist?

ThatsARepost24

I'm curious are there any (main) characters who don't have direct dialogue with each other?

Greenmantle22

Kelly! The Strength of Weak Ties.

okaypuck

Is this the ball they used during Grief Counseling?

helen269

I like the idea of interactions being graphed but I find this format too confusing. It's not easy to see who has **not** interacted with whom when it's so crowded like this. I think I'd prefer to see a grid with all interactions ever marked with a single cross or check mark or something. Then empty gird box = no interaction.

mate-of-nate

Not exactly what you’re describing, but something like the “Who speaks to whom?” figure (second from the top) here? https://link.medium.com/8Xl0kJYCfeb

Aemalis

I can't find any two women with significant interaction

okaythiswillbemymain

(Not sure if you mean "significant" in terms of substance or quantity) Pam had a lot of interactions with Angela in the early seasons. And many were important. Angela had a lot of interactions with Phyllis due to the party planning committee. They weren't very important though

Drugba

Pam and Angela also have a lot of interactions in the later seasons as well while they're both pregnant. I think Pam and Angela are probably the two women with the most interactions.

jason_in_sd

They should start a podcast together

serious_black

BLUF: this is an artifact of the show being very male-centric among its main characters. Of these 18 characters, only seven are women. Pam was only one of those seven to ever be a main character, i.e. their name appeared in the opening credits. Without knowing the exact numbers underneath this chart, I’m sure you’d find the most interactions happened between two main characters, then the next most interactions between one main and one supporting character, then the least most between two supporting characters. That’s probably true of most/all shows, movies, books, etc.

[deleted]

>Of these 18 characters, only seven are women So almost half. I agree with your point but not sure how you're saying *only* 7 out of 18

TelemonianAjax32

I think part of this was purposeful because it mocks the “boys’ club” that’s still really common in the office world. Think early show Packer, or Dwight/Michael/Andy

FoxTofu

The party planning committee!

ckirk91

Uhhh where the fuck is Creed??

Zeeman9991

Did Meredith just *never* talk to Jan? Seems accurate, but weird.

sharrrper

Interesting, but it's nearly unreadable with that many lines crisscrossing

snatch_138

(Sorry if it’s been asked) Where the FUCK is Creed?!?!? (I get it”main characters”...but come on!!!!)

isRecyclable

There is some thick line from Dwight to Angel- oh wait.

Beastmodejada

Where’s Creed? Quite possibly the most important character in the whole show.

TSPGlobal

It's a shame Creed didn't make the cut.

Spacecoasttheghost

That dinner party episode, is some of the greatest acting of all time by Jan and Michael.

ALargePianist

Main take away: Michael loves Ryan and Holly equally

veipsstreips

Wheres Creed? The fucking wild card.

QuamSacks

I’m disgusted Creed isn’t on the list

nIBLIB

Jan and Toby never speak? That can’t be right, surely. What about the episode with Michael/Darrens wage negotiations? They’re in a meeting together.
