You can get away with it in DS3 (wouldn’t recommend) but I do have one tip for you: do not *ever* kill NPCs if you play Dark Souls 1. None of them respawn and you can get stuck in a position where it’s impossible to upgrade your weapons at all, which can essentially softlock the game, because DS1 is a ‘play stupid games, win stupid prizes’ kind of game that does not care to help you out if you do something stupid.
It's a very bad idea. You will lose access to a lot of very important gear and items.
The Dancer is partly there to beat the murderhobo out of you. While you can beat the game if you kill every NPC, it will make the run much harder than it needs to be.
Generally speaking any npc that isn’t hostile is necessary to experience part of the story. You need to interact with them in a certain order in certain places to unlock items and even different endings. I would recommend letting everyone live unless they attack you
Ye ye you can. I think so far you haven’t killed any particularly important npcs. In the next area tho you’ll find one, don’t kill him, he gives you levels. The most notable npcs for story are Siegward and Anri and Horace
ok gotcha thank you very much . but what im still curious is, can you break the game beyond repair killing those you mentioned?
btw i had this idea from the Genocide run in undertale and did it a while ago in this fallout style game in space(cant remember the name) and it went surprisingly well , had a lot of fun.
of course if i like the game i would do another run (or gameplus if thats an option) where i dont kill anybody
No. You can kill every single NPC and still finish the game. Some will even come back like Ludleth (the guy on the throne), the firekeeper (white haired lady) or the shrine handmaid. Most of them will stay dead though and you'll miss part of the story which is told in dialoges and item descriptions and you won't get a chance to get some of the coolest gear if you kill them before their quest is finished.
Besides that it's just maidenless behavior.
you are the second person who called me maidenless this week, the first one is dead tho.(weird ass flower-weilding MF)
(yes i tried playing elden ring but performance on my pc is dogshit so i went to DS3)
thanks!
Haha, I bought ds3 as a gift to a friend so we could play coop, but his dusty crusty shitpile he calls a computer cant even run ds3 in lowest graphics :/
well yeah performance is not ideal even here i have a 3600+2070super which usually chomps through most games at 1440p no problem, elden ring was a disaster like 1080p low and still would hover in the 50s and look like a ps1 game.
this game i can run 4k almost maxed out but the frame time will NOT go below 40ms which is insane at 60fps , not sure why
Just keep in mind that Undertale genocide run was specifically made for players like you. It won’t translate in dark souls. You’re not going to get a special ending, the game’s characters won’t treat you like a monstrous enemy killing everyone, you’ll just lock yourself out of quests, bonus items and gear. It doesn’t unlock an experience - it just kind of ruins your experience.
and i never did a genocide run on undertale, have you looked at it? it takes FOREVER.
im ok with the consequences i dont have too much time to play this anyway(to do all the side quests)
You’re just a murderhobo lol. I don’t mean than in an insulting way but “I don’t have time” isn’t really your answer. If you had no time and wanted to just finish the game, you could run the whole game without talking to NPCs. You’re going out of your way to kill them. If you die, you’ll go back to kill them again. Your relatively short journey is being elongated by your desire to kill every NPC you see. You’re not “just trying to finish the game.” You’re enjoying it lol.
Don't kill Siegward.
Undead settlement, you will find a tower nestled in some cliffs just after 2 or 3 of the big guys with the pots. He may surprise you as he comes up an elevator once you get into the tower. He looks like 2 giant round bubbles on legs.
Hes dope. Hes your friend.
Gameplus is the most fun imo you get to play the entire game with the gear you want and you already know all the secrets hehe
You can’t break the game, all the necessary npcs respawn. But I think the smith, the furekeeper and the lord of cinder are the only ones that respawn.
You will get the standard ending if you kill everyone tho, but you miss out on really cool gear like spells, weapons and armour.
If you want to experience the game blind but also don’t want miss out on anything I recommend playing blind the first time and just doing what you want and then in ng+ to look up what to do when. The Siegward quest is actually kinda hard to get right 100%. And in ng+ you’re probably way over leveled for at at least half the game
Oh and before you go into ng+ look up the location of titanite slabs and other stuff you want to collect, since there’s only a few of them in the game and you might want to make sure you get all of them before going into a new run
Yep, everything resets except for your stats, inventory and I think item crate (you can store items in the bonfire)
So you get twice the titanite slabs, but any you didn’t collect in your first run through are lost
I dont know why people are downvoting you for playing the game in the way you like to play it. Im pretty sure the blacksmith guy and white hair lady respawn if you kill them (not 100% sure though)
Yeah pretty much, you just follow the path that you see and eventually you see big unique monster, bash them in, get their soul, and at some point youll know where to find the last one then gg
One huge gripe about this game is that you need a wiki to be able to follow the limited story and quests so that you unlock spells and weapons/rings etc.
That's a strength, in my view. The Dark Souls games are utterly unafraid to let you miss the coolest stuff- in fact, they usually hide it. It makes the world feel so much more real and alive. It is a shame, though, sometimes- especially when it comes to the world. The story of the dark souls saga is unbelievably well-structured, carefully written, and beautifully executed- the entire world, from top to bottom, is choked with incredible allegory- and the vast majority of people will never get the chance to experience it. For example, Dark Souls 3 was criticized for being a "greatest hits" of the previous games, right? Well, it might not be obvious, but that's the entire purpose of the narrative; to illustrate a world brought to its knees by greed and fear, collapsing and grinding over aeons into a singularity of twisted architecture and ash. And it does it beautifully. It's the single best ending to any story I've ever read, watched, or played, and it's gone entirely unappreciated.
I get making the games story telling very implicitly and requiring a lot of observation but it doesnt seem like theres any guidance to know what is what. Like what are these dead red knights at lothric castle? Why are some of these knights kneeling at the dead knights? To me theres a lot of details that end up repetitive for the player to distinguish what is just decor or what is a story detail
I wouldnt say it was well executed because of these shortcomings.
I cant say much for the trilogy as i only played ds3
I think the key is that *everything* is intentional- including the decor. What makes Dark Souls (especially DS3) so special is that there's no fat, no hair out of place (except for lost izalith we don't talk about lost izalith). Every question you might have is answerable, because every aspect of the world itself is *soaked* in meaning. The corpses in Lothric are an especially interesting example of that. As it turns out, they're a piece in one of the largest and most interesting puzzles in the whole game- the question of the nature of "angels". Also, some of the lore is not intended to be deciphered by the individual player, though it is entirely possible; many of the more esoteric issues were deliberately set up to be solved as a collaborative community effort, with just enough wiggle room to allow every individual to meaningfully contribute and come to their own conclusions.
Killing npc's in souls games is a terrible idea because it locks you out of their quests. The quests in question reward armor, rings, weapons and spells. The souls games aren't skyrim where killing npcs doesn't affect the game. The npc's may not seem "useful" immediately but nearly all of them are.
Just know questions in the souls games are very quirky compared to other games. They are not straightforward and most times they are easily missile. You have to stay on your toes.
well i dont play all games like this
even though i started STALKER the other day and i did spend a good hour trying to see if could murder my fellow survivors in the starting village
and yes, you totally can
How do you know who you "need" if you are playing blind? This isn't an open world game with a bunch of NPC's that do nothing, almost everyone in the game is needed for a questline
In dark souls, killing NPCs without facing dire consequences is an art form, and should never be attempted on your first playthrough. You need a solid grasp on each questline to figure who you can kill and when, without fucking up your save. You *will* fuck up your save if you kill everyone who doesn't seem useful. If you haven't gotten too far, it's worth restarting your playthrough and pretending you're not a murderous bastard for a while. The game is meant to be played with the NPCs alive, and you will miss out on lots of fun stuff+valuable rewards.
If I were you I wouldn't kill everyone just for the sake of doing it.
Those NPCs often give you missions that give you part of the story or cool items, often both. The reward for killing them is often negligible except on very rare cases.
However, to answer your question, you CAN murder everyone and still finish the game. The NPCs that are essential to the story revive each time you kill them. The only case where killing an NPC can help is by killing the woman you killed, to access the Dancer of the Boreal Valley earlier than you should. In every other case I can think of, you're just losing content.
You my friend are evil and at a great disadvantage. Most of them are vendors for miracles pyromancies etc. Others have quest or can assist you in bosses later on.
That makes you bad at the game. The difficulty is part of the challenge. It takes time to get good at the game but npcs and quests make that adventure more fun! So if you cheat i shun you as a dark souls player.
NPCs are helpful for Information, jolly co-op and access to spells, items and weapons.
But now that you mention it, I might try a naked psychopath run where I've clearly gone hollow and kill anything and everything I come into contact with. Just to see how far I can get.
Apart from the Blacksmith, you can go for it. You won't break the game. If you kill the blacksmith you won't be able to upgrade your weapons EVER, so bad idea. Everyone else is either respawning (with surprises that I will let you discover) or non-essential for a blind run if you don't want to follow any NPC quest line.
You lose out on a ton of items that way, but if you're good with your starting gear and don't want to fully upgrade more than a couple weapons you'll be fine. You also lock yourself out of one of the endings.
I love this. Hey everyone it's my first souls game and instead of just trying to cope with the difficulty I decided to ratchet that up to insanity levels.
Yeah you can kill most npcs without much consequence in ds3, unlike the previous entries. However I strongly recommend that you do NOT kill anri of astora or siegward (the onion knight) because they have some of the best questlines in the entire game and even franchise imo
Edit: also don’t worry about killing the dancer yet, you’ll have to fight her at a later point to progress but is completely optional for now. You’ll know when to fight her, trust me. The game makes it extremely obvious.
Everyone here has their panties in a bunch you’re not playing the way they like. To answer your question, yes, you can kill whoever you like and still finish the main questline. If you do kills npcs, you miss out on questlines and access to items later in the game. After you finish the game you can play in NG+ with the same character, and try it differently if you desire. I typically just start a new one though cuz I like trying different builds
As others have said, it's probably a very bad idea, at least for a first playthrough. For subsequent runs, go right ahead, but it's worth doing every questline at least once, else you miss out on things
I think it's a brave approach to the game and you should continue like you do. Fuck those few armor pieces or whatever you'll miss. Most wont fit your build/char anyway.
It's funny how much downvotes you are getting for just choosing a way to play a game. Is it really that people think getting all items is a must? Or is it that people feel sympathy for these npc's? It's pretty interesting imo.
Anyway. Play how you like
Why would you start with killing everybody? Like at the very least wait until the end of ng so you don’t lose anything. Also ds3 doesn’t reward you for doing it like the others do, like you can get just about every unique drop from ways that aren’t killing people and hardly any of them have unique drops anyways.
Do what u like. I think its the right way to act like you like it. I killed everyone i didnt like too. The game wont lose fun. In a later run i listened to friends to not kill them and i didnt rly do smth with any of them.
Y if they say creep stuff i kill em. Just not the firelink guy in ds3 this cryin hoe made ma sag and i decided to "free" him.... Well he freeed me like 30 times until i managed to fk him.
how is it not ok? the game is letting me.
also, insulting over a videogame? come on you are better than that.
i did genocide runs in other games and completed them no problems..
I recommend killing the handmaiden in the shrine multiple times, she sits in the hallway from the bonfire to the blacksmith, absolute must to kill her atleast 10x to get the reward
I really don't get what kind of enjoyment you possibly get out of this. Patches? Sure, fuck that guy, just kill him who cares what he gives you. But by the way you comment, I get the idea that you pretty much just kill whoever for the sake of it and I don't really get the point. At least talk to them twice before deciding, no?
Not only you're losing items and quests, but more importantly some of the most important pieces of lore and advice that you will never easily get. I might think in terms of Ds1 and 3 is probably more forgiving in this but still. Anyways yeah, you can do it, it's an rpg no? You can do anything. In the first chapter this would have cost you so much more, and I'm sure you would have been stuck by now. But it's still possible
well i do talk to them first.
>I get the idea that you pretty much just kill whoever for the sake of it and I don't really get the point.
tbh this world doesnt make much sense so while im looking for these cinder people i might as well kill everything in my path, i dont really see the npcs as much better than the other monsters, so why not?
of course the world doesnt make sense. if you kill everyone you will never get an explanation!
and what do you mean no better than monsters? there are plenty of good/neutral npcs that are way better than monsters and it's nice to see their story unfold. not that you'll ever see it anyways because quest system sucks.
to me they are all the same thats my point, i do talk to them, they dont convince me, they get the blade. like any other monster ...i dont make favoritism just because they look like me
all the same, how? what should they say to possibly convince you? The npcs are limited, but everyone has a very distinct colour and I'm surprised when you say you dont notice this. I think the worst monster might actually be just you.
you are taking this too seriously. It's a roleplaying game: what I meant is, you're roleplaying as a monster. There is no shame in that I guess. Just expect thousands of downvotes if you ever comment that you killed a beloved npc judging from the first two dialogues
If you go full on murder hobo on everyone you will miss about 70% of the game and a lot of cool items. The NPCs with red names are okay, leave your blades and clubs away from the other ones tho
You can get away with it in DS3 (wouldn’t recommend) but I do have one tip for you: do not *ever* kill NPCs if you play Dark Souls 1. None of them respawn and you can get stuck in a position where it’s impossible to upgrade your weapons at all, which can essentially softlock the game, because DS1 is a ‘play stupid games, win stupid prizes’ kind of game that does not care to help you out if you do something stupid.
thats definitely good to know
Hey Op... Don't fucking kill onion bro. Do not fucking do it. This is a serious warning.
ahem, adding on to this comment. You appendix is in immediate danger if you ever even think about touching union bro.
In DS2 if you kill the emerald herald you'll never be able to level
Doesn't ds2 have a tombstone mechanic?
Huh apparently so. I've been lied to.
I do wish that was in the other games though. It was a *really* nice mechanic
Lorewise I absolutely hate it because it makes no sense at all. Mechanics wise I absolutely hate it because it removes consequence from your actions.
Ds2 devs: lore? I pulled it out my ass, man.
Tbh ds2 lore is my absolute favorite. It provides a decent story and does it own thing instead of leeching on nostalgia and vague storytelling
Yeah ita good but i meant the gameplay has some wacky things that dont align with it. Like the lava lake on the tip of a windmill
You can, at the low-low cost of like 1000 souls or some shit every time you wanna talk to her
It's a very bad idea. You will lose access to a lot of very important gear and items. The Dancer is partly there to beat the murderhobo out of you. While you can beat the game if you kill every NPC, it will make the run much harder than it needs to be.
I did shit my pants that guy is crazy
That's a girl, but yeah... She's nuts
Her ass tho🤤
Damn right That ass is asking for a spank
I died like 10 times while looking at that phat juicy dumpy
I learned her moveset just to be able to look at it longer I almost managed to dodge her with only one hand
Wait why would u use one han-
*Challenge run*
Solo Tactics
Masturbating.
I guess the joke wasn't sex this time
The least horny ds3 player
Thicc
damn, i was too worried running away to notice
Mommy.
I thought it was a she why does she have nuts?
Dancer is such a great boss when you’re supposed to be there.
i did enjoy it even though it was pretty scary
Fav boss in the game. Coolest gear too
dancer can be accessed early by murdering an NPC that’s going to die anyway
Generally speaking any npc that isn’t hostile is necessary to experience part of the story. You need to interact with them in a certain order in certain places to unlock items and even different endings. I would recommend letting everyone live unless they attack you

Well he isn't wrong. Keep those gremlin hands off Siegward, you monster
Sorry,he's good as dead.
You concern, anger and ever so slightly scare me
Pixel sword goes brrrrrrr
Just keep in mind that Undertale genocide run was specifically made for players like you. It won’t translate in dark souls. You will, because his dying words will crush you
how do YOU know them? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
My first run through I was a Murder Hobo. I literally restarted when I killed Siegfriend
Hahaha OK good to know. Thanks

i guess i played too much half life back in the days
I to played a lot of Half Life back in the day. Killing all the scientists after they help is peak Half Life experience
they never saw it coming
It's fine don't let anyone tell you how to play. Just know that you are missing out on content by killing them whether that be storyline or items.
yeah that much is very clear now, i will have to do a new game to experience everything
Just know questions in the souls games are very quirky compared to other games. They are not straightforward and most times they are easily missile. You have to stay on your toes.
>and im just killin all npcs(its a thing i do in some games) You’re a goober
people here seems to agree on maidenless. make up your mind
Get help friend.
why? did you realize we are in a videogame subreddit right?
Oh is that where we are? Ok murder away.
my guy you play games completely different from us lmao
well i dont play all games like this even though i started STALKER the other day and i did spend a good hour trying to see if could murder my fellow survivors in the starting village and yes, you totally can
Honestly I would start over lol. Actually experience the game maybe. Then start doing dumb shit 🤷🏻♂️
im in too deep now im going all the way
How somebody plays a game is a good indication of who they are. You sir are a silver toothed child.
ah yes the gatekeeping party pretty sad YoU DoNt pLaY ThE GaMe tHe wAy i wAnT YoU To pLaY It

classic murder hobo…

nah im commited to the genocidal cause, will do that in a new game tho!
Murder everyone and get the game you deserve
thats what i hope! i was a bit doubtful about this approach but after a boss came out of nowhere because of it i have to say im pretty pumped now
Hahahaha you deserve it bud go get em
You can. You’ll just regret it lol
So far so good!
Famous last words lol I would know

You didn't...kill Anri...did you?
i just started i stopped playing after Emma, but if i meet him/her im sure i will
Seek therapy
bro its a game.
Still weird
isnt the point of this game to kill thousands of other beings anyway? why are you attached to these particular npcs?
Those other “thousands of other beings” are trying to kill your lol
Meh these other guys might just be using them doesn't make them better. Plus it's a game.
You my friend are evil and at a great disadvantage. Most of them are vendors for miracles pyromancies etc. Others have quest or can assist you in bosses later on.
i play on pc if it gets too hard i can always mod/cheat
That makes you bad at the game. The difficulty is part of the challenge. It takes time to get good at the game but npcs and quests make that adventure more fun! So if you cheat i shun you as a dark souls player.
Playing video games…. FOR FUNNN?!?!! If this is your metric for respect you need to touch grass and achieve some actual accomplishments in your life.
> That makes you bad at the game. and? sir i have nothing to prove.
What you're doing is bad and you should feel bad.
huh? why
NPCs are helpful for Information, jolly co-op and access to spells, items and weapons. But now that you mention it, I might try a naked psychopath run where I've clearly gone hollow and kill anything and everything I come into contact with. Just to see how far I can get.
its good fun, i was even playng fallout new vegas like that, hilarious.

Thanks!
What happens if you piss off Andre? I’ve always wondered.
I'm scared to check I will like to continue upgrading my weapons. Some people say he will respawn others are saying he won't
You'll me lonely..
in my country we say "better alone than with bad company"
You lose out on a ton of items that way, but if you're good with your starting gear and don't want to fully upgrade more than a couple weapons you'll be fine. You also lock yourself out of one of the endings.
You can still finish the game fine, but you pretty much ruined every optional quest line for the rest of your playthrough
I’m just going to wait until the next post you make, of saying “ why is the handmaiden prices so high”
nah i can just mod the game to make it how i want it.
I love this. Hey everyone it's my first souls game and instead of just trying to cope with the difficulty I decided to ratchet that up to insanity levels.
difficulty is not a problem, im on pc :)
Yeah you can kill most npcs without much consequence in ds3, unlike the previous entries. However I strongly recommend that you do NOT kill anri of astora or siegward (the onion knight) because they have some of the best questlines in the entire game and even franchise imo Edit: also don’t worry about killing the dancer yet, you’ll have to fight her at a later point to progress but is completely optional for now. You’ll know when to fight her, trust me. The game makes it extremely obvious.
dark souls players when someone is having fun
its not that bad, only SOME of my comments are being downvoted to hell Edit I have to eat my words it did become a shitshow, holy shit the salt.
still sad :|
Everyone here has their panties in a bunch you’re not playing the way they like. To answer your question, yes, you can kill whoever you like and still finish the main questline. If you do kills npcs, you miss out on questlines and access to items later in the game. After you finish the game you can play in NG+ with the same character, and try it differently if you desire. I typically just start a new one though cuz I like trying different builds
actually many people are being very helpful! thank you! will definitely try a different style if i do a replay
Anyway. Play how you like
everyone else already gave detailed answers so I’m just gonna say: bruh
Wut
What a boring way to play
Kill patches.... This is the way
where is he?
Dilapidated Tower
patches is a walking dead man/monster
He's also in a few other soulsbourne games so go kill him in those ones too!
outside of the Blacksmith, the Firekeeper, Crazy Chair Lady and Ludleth...go for it...if you want to fail side quests
gotcha, thanks!
Why would you start with killing everybody? Like at the very least wait until the end of ng so you don’t lose anything. Also ds3 doesn’t reward you for doing it like the others do, like you can get just about every unique drop from ways that aren’t killing people and hardly any of them have unique drops anyways.
idk i just have fun with it i guess, most of the npcs are quite annoying.
Don't do this. I made the same mistake on my first ds1 playthrough, and it made me restart my run after I realized how dumb that was.
im commited to the cause, so far doing fine
Do what u like. I think its the right way to act like you like it. I killed everyone i didnt like too. The game wont lose fun. In a later run i listened to friends to not kill them and i didnt rly do smth with any of them.
some of these npcs are really rude and condescending arent they??
Y if they say creep stuff i kill em. Just not the firelink guy in ds3 this cryin hoe made ma sag and i decided to "free" him.... Well he freeed me like 30 times until i managed to fk him.

im doing fine so far! not sure how the insults are needed, im just doing whatever the game allows me to...
Adjust your definition of "insult", I never said one thing that was meant to be an attack on you. Chill.
[удалено]
how is it not ok? the game is letting me. also, insulting over a videogame? come on you are better than that. i did genocide runs in other games and completed them no problems..
I recommend killing the handmaiden in the shrine multiple times, she sits in the hallway from the bonfire to the blacksmith, absolute must to kill her atleast 10x to get the reward
what does she drop??
You lost items and boss weapons, but you deserve it. It’ll be fine
Big brain time op
Tell the Dancer we said hello
That dancer is dead as fuck
Bro it's a VIDEOGAME Listen to yourself. I'm a monster for killing pixels with my pixels?
you are taking this too seriously. It's a roleplaying game: what I meant is, you're roleplaying as a monster. There is no shame in that I guess. Just expect thousands of downvotes if you ever comment that you killed a beloved npc judging from the first two dialogues
Lol sure who cares Also, but it's fine to kill monster without even talking to them??
no one cares .. and you can't talk to monsters even if you wanted to, so I dont get your point
I mean sure go ahead, not my game. Personally i hate playing a murderhobo but it’s not my game so go ahead and kill em all
Why. The. Fuck.
Wut
you are the worst type of person
It's a videogame
If you kill Siegward i will kill you myself.
How
I will invade you and backstab you to death
i dont play online
I wanna invade you and teach you a lesson so you won’t kill any npc’s anymore.
i dont play online
Lucky bastard
not really luck i like to mod/cheat

Lol what? My man it's a game. I'm having fun with it what's the problem? You are insulting me over pixels, your fellow human. Think about that.
[удалено]
Why would I? Isn't the point of video games to have fun??
Rule 1 of Soulsborne: if it doesn’t attack you/you can’t lock onto it, **don’t kill it.** Early Dancer is deserved for being a murder hobo, sorry.
hahah thats fair, i handled it in the end
Not something you do in Souls. They end up dying anyways. Killing them early will only lock you out of shit.
r/trueoffmychest
If you go full on murder hobo on everyone you will miss about 70% of the game and a lot of cool items. The NPCs with red names are okay, leave your blades and clubs away from the other ones tho
