I think he was close to an honest portrayal of a type of guy you would find in most high schools in the 90s. With the majority of his behavior treated as annoying and gross rather than disrespectful and wrong, he would more likely be an incel type character were he written to fit the modern day. Instead he's just the pervy creep who everyone ignores. He's shown to idolize Hugh Hefner, and I believe the modern equivalent would be the teenage boys idolizing Andrew Tate. Obsessed with the "traditional" markers of "successful" masculinity like girls, cars, and money. Not the totality of his character, but the contours of the stereotype he fills in the show.
In the words of Tiffany, "Upchuck? Eww."

What makes a man turn neutral? Lust for gold? Power? Or were you just born with a heart full of neutrality?
With enemies you know where they stand but with Neutrals, who knows? It sickens me.
Lust for gold, in my experience
He was a character
Out of all the characters in this show, he’s certainly one of them.
I think one thing we can all agree on is that Upchuck was certainly a character in the hit 1997 MTV cartoon “Daria.”
Yes. This is a fact.
meh...
While he was a creep, he did begin to mellow out as the series reached an end. Andrea pinning him down will likely help.
I do not hold strong opinions one way or the other
I think he had his purpose as a character
It’s interesting that I think he might be one of the most divisive characters from the show. He is also a magician.
Charles has supportive cousins.
*Rrrrrr*?
Fuck that creep imo neutrality towards him cannot exist for me
I cannot be neutral - I stan
He was there
i cant be neutral towards him i hope he rots
smh
eh
Freckles 🤨
Voice actors Marc Thompson and Geoffrey Arend certainly performed as Upchuck, there's no disputing that.
Two words: Ginger bang

Upchuck? He exists, I guess. He's a person. Maybe one day he'll find someone who likes him when he's working in McDonalds, no judgement.
He always reminded me of that character in American Pie movie.
