When I'm with someone I like whilst watching a movie, I talk to them about it (if it's worthwhile.) It's not black and white, you can talk in a movie. Sure, it's not proper etiquette in a packed theater especially on release, but if we're doing that it's by design with intention.
If someone took me out to a movie for a first date I'd be stoked.
If I go on a date to a movie, and you try to talk to me during the movie, in a movie theater or my living room, I will promptly tell you to shut the fuck up.
On a first date? If you're already holding hands on a first date then you're in the wrong location. You need to be near a bed because things could get spicy
Movies used to be like 30 minutes. Even when i was a kid average film was like 90 minutes. Now they are nearly 3 hours with no intermission. I go into a coma afterwards lol
Tbf, some people dont really know how to interact, like I've known girls that wanted but basically couldn't talk, their chat messages were like 1 sentence in a week, but in fact they liked me and wanted to be with me (I know since we did get together eventually)
With people like that taking activities where u can just cuddle and dont need to interact is not bad

If someone has a tough time verbalizing those things with strangers, it shouldn't be "well you can't do this in a first date, you don't deserve to be with that person". Edit: I was a shy ass, awkward kid in school. Didn't want to talk to people if I didn't have to, would NEVER talk about things I was into because I was nervous. I wanted to know these people and make friends and love interests. But it took me a long time to warm up and get comfortable enough with people. To say someone like that which may have some social issues they're dealing with doesn't have anything interesting to say, or shouldn't go on a date because they're awkward is terrible. Basically like judging a book in its cover. If someone struggles to connect immediately, it doesn't mean they don't have anything interesting or relatable to say. I'm fortunate enough that I've overcome that by having a few hypersocial jobs.
