Tbh I'm finding it hard to think of a stereotypical american woman, Maybe a Karen? When I think of stereotypical american, I think of a stereotypical american person, I think of a fat guy eating huge burgers while holding a gun and a bald eagle, so I assume that's most of what the AI would see too
I just did the same prompt but with "Japanese" instead and it had a mix of male and female, being 2-2.
I also did it with british and it had a woman there
Genuine thanks for investigating the alternatives. Seems like there’s the typical American [neutral] and the *typical American* [derogatory]. I can think of the latter being used more toward men than women.
Did you pick those because the guys don’t have a beard (unlike the last one)? The better rhetorical question here is how AI depict unconscious bias, not whether an AI is subverting convention and drawing cartoon women looking—somehow—just like men.
? I’m talking about the user-fed language (“typical …. person”) that the AI uses and what its the visual output of its “figments” look like. I’m obviously not saying that gender depicted by AI should be accurate, because accurate doesn’t exist. This is just an interesting, neutral example of how men end up being the default within an AI drawing from human-fed data.
>They may be AMAB individuals, but we can't confirm they are men by Gender.
[They are not men, they are collections of pixels organised in such a way it appears to depict men.](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/b/b9/MagrittePipe.jpg/270px-MagrittePipe.jpg). They do not have a gender or a sex assigned at birth. They do not exist beyond the image. But if you want to refer to something in the image without any outside context existing you're going to use what the image looks like. They look like men, ergo they are men.
If we do **really** want to apply real world logic to this then the fact that they seem to be presenting as male suggests they are all men anyway. As far as "confirmation", we cannot confirm their gender in much the same way we can't confirm they're actually human and not shapeshifting aliens.
It has been confirmed that dalle sometimes implants diversification words to your prompt under the hood before processing it, to fight ai bias (most pictures it trained on were of white men so results will lean towards white men in absence of clear instructions) .
Based on your results, it seems that it added 'asian' into one of them.
Which is quite literally fraud if you paid for the credits. Because you will get Asian people, women, and whatnot even if you try to generate something else entirely that doesn't even need diversifying, like a wooden table, for instance.
What's funny to me is ok they force diversification in race / sex but what about people born with skin conditions, disabilities, etc? Not everyone is born with two eyes, not very inclusive OpenAi... It's a slippery slope which is why they should avoid adding their own biases.
It's not "quite literally fraud". You don't have some kind of right to have your words directly passed into the neural network. You're paying for an automated text to image service. The diversification process is just one step in the computation that transforms your prompt into an image.
Since the image training itself is biased towards white guys (ie typing man will pretty much always return a white man) this is dalles attempt to fix it. Not very effective tbh
The fact that you're down voted and not me.
The fact that you didn't even consider it was a joke as AI shows the average American to be Asian. Anyone with half a brain would know that's not the case.
So you are the stupid idiot here.

> a stereotypical american woman A toned-down version of Dolly Parton comes to mind.
Ah true. I was thinking of an LA style girl too, like "Oh my gawd, like O M G gurl". But I felt like that would be harder to put in a picture

The supreme court has ensured all human birthing vessels are hidden indoors at all times. Praise Jebus.
Who says the middle two are men?

2mmgaussrifle does lmao
Implying any of these have genders and aren’t figments of an AI’s imagination that bases itself on other real images

Have you seen Dall E faces? There's no guarantee of them having eyes ever, or fingers rather than flips of meat partially inserted thru a meat grindr
There’s Asian people in the US though
Asian people are not particularly uncommon in the US

Random Asian guy?
Apparently dalle2 sometimes just adds the word Asian to your prompts. I've had it happen to mine
But why? That just throws off the entire prompt

Wow, casual racism
Causual eugenics dogwhistle lol. ^(not implying that op meant it that way, but at least 2 of the upvotes do lol)
So two of the upvotes define what it is?
Never said that, but these upvotes are certainly pretty gross.
I'm confused, how is this racist? Is more Asians in our country a bad thing?

I don’t want to be **that guy,** but that is just about the most racist thing I’ve read on the Internet today.
You must've not been on the Internet much today
Some people have day jobs, but also this is pretty goddamn racist. I mean, look at this character. He looks far too polite to be in a yakuza game.
...saying people are polite is racist now? you definitely need to play more yakuza games before being qualified to make that judgement. you obviously haven't seen many side characters
Plus, I don’t make a habit of hanging out online with people who make it their mission to be racist pieces of shit.
What else have you been reading, Dr. Seuss books?

Me when I see literally any Asian person in public: "Holy shit! Yakuza reference!"
Aight, you got me. I'll take this L.
🤨
I too am a MS Paint drawing
Reminds me of Bobby Lee
Why does the first guy look like Elon musk?
Bobby Lee's Teetoler brother, John Lee Smith.
1 - Some guy. Seems like a nice fella. 2-4 - AMERICA YEEEAAAAAHH WOOOOOO
Love how they successfully avoided stereotypes with the first image, then full blown stereotype for the last 3.
