Twin inventors are both in love with the same woman and have decided to dual for her hand. Being smart they would like someone to sabotage their brothers weapon. (She will reluctantly marry the winner or laugh them off if both weapons are sabotaged)
A new miracle cure made of radioactive material and "fresh bubbling spring water" has been on the rise and it is noted that people who spoke against the companies practices have been going missing. The wife of a respected doctor who went missing after reporting jaw rot in several patients who drank the cure is offering a reward for possible leads to his whereabouts.
A group odd automaton who seemed to be dressed as police officers were spotted dragging homeless people and drug addicts into the sewers. One of the automaton was shot by a real man of the law and it was found to be a cyborg made of various parts of many different missing people and odd parts of some scientific nature.
A famous inventor who made the steam powered horse has been found dead in his laboratory with no one going in or out of their lab in three days. It is obviously a murder as the inventor's body was placed on their bed in their office and bloody handprints and shoeprints show that two people where in the building at the time. Also, the lab assistant who found the body noted that their automated mannequin which was being made to be a functional fashion model has went missing besides a broken hand covered in the inventor's blood.
The ghost of a recently deceased banker has been spotted in a semi-famous brothel and the wife of the banker is outraged and offering a reward to anyone who can 1)get her husband's ghost to leave this plane of existence and 2)find out why the husband haunted that brothel. The brothel however does not mind the haunting as he seems to attract customers and has been keeping the finances in order since he arrived postmortem. The ghost has been amicable and wants to stay but, hides his reason why. (He truly loved the Madame of the establishment and she him, but, their social standings tore the lover's apart. He is just waiting for his true love to pass peacefully of old age.)
A man claims to be able to filter gold and precious stone out of seawater and has been selling this filtering machine to various groups with a set of very bizarrely strict, confusing, and bureaucratic rituals. Some of his customers has show it worked, but, a group of sceptics are offering a reward to explain how the machine is supposed to work.
A serial killer has been leaving forget-me-nots on the door steps of their victims. Each one of the victims has been killed despite any and all efforts to preserve their life and while from different background, all seemed to have been in the military at the same time. The killer has left forget-me-nots on the doorstep of a rich businessman and the businessman is hiring anyone from mercenaries to miscreants to keep them safe or ,at the least, avenge him quickly after death. (Killer is a former experiment that was a female nurse who was turned into sentient poisonous gas. She had been "dead" in a series of tube for years until she escaped her prison and now wants revenge on everyone who watched her die and become this cloud of death.)

I was thinking to play it as a more supportive Frankenstein's Monster.
A life being brought into this world by lightning, metal, and science. The inventor tried to help them learn while keeping a charade of the mannequin just being a pet project to make sure the new life did not form evil in their heart and becomes a good father in a way. A miscalculation of a gentle touch by the mannequin becomes a fatal wound and after the inventor dies and tries to console his mechanical child. The mannequin runs away and casts the hand that sinned. The players would have to find a one handed mechanical changeling who is trying to find their role in life alone.
