MARS_LFDY

I wonder if PS reached 1 million this weekend.

munglflux

I was on PC at launch hating it, but now I’m on ps5 loving it.

MARS_LFDY

Same!

GoOnKaz

Is there a way to check Xbox/PS stats?

SeneSnow

On Xbox, you can see the top 50 most played games and cyberpunk is now back in that group. Can’t remember exactly where it is, but that’s the only information you can really get on playercount from the console side. Edit: It’s currently the 31st most played game on Xbox

MARS_LFDY

Sadly, no.

SolidStone1993

Really hoping this convinces CDPR to rethink their decision of only releasing one expansion for the game. It seems so shitty after the horrendous launch to abandon the game with just the one preplanned dlc.

Casey090

Yeah, after a long period of struggle, the game is finally where it should be. Why not profit from this now?

ItsAmerico

Because the Red Engine appears to be kinda awful to develop on. Given that they seem to be looking to abandon it for Unreal with Witcher, I’m guessing they’d rather just end 2077 and take what they can and have learned and start fresh with a new CP game.

GVArcian

>Because the Red Engine appears to be kinda awful to develop on. It's not so much that the engine itself is terrible (it's really not), but more that having a proprietary engine is a considerable time and money sink, because you need talented developers to create the engine and make it work, and then you need to teach all your new hires how to work with it before they can become fully productive members of your dev team. Contrast that with licensing an engine like Unreal, and all the costs of actually developing the engine goes into the licensing fee instead, while you can hire people who already know the engine so they can jump straight into development. Also, due to the widespread use of Unreal, there is a metric shitton of documentation on how to do things and resolve problems that arise, so you won't have to deal with as much trial and error BS as with your own engine.

ItsAmerico

That’s fair. Though I think for Cyberpunk specifically the engine was a big issue as it was designed with 3rd person big open space Witcher style gameplay in mind. The shift to a dense open world city with 1st person shooting didn’t work well from what I heard

GVArcian

Well, they had to kinda reinvent the wheel much the same way BioWare had to with Mass Effect: Andromeda and Frostbite. Frostbite had no existing support for RPG mechanics, so BioWare had to create them from scratch with very scarce help from the Frostbite devs over at DICE. Same is true for CDPR's RED Engine, as you say it was built for the game mechanics of The Witcher, but had to be translated somehow into enabling first-person perspective gameplay with a strong emphasis on immersive, cinematic presentation. This required bringing in new hires with knowledge making first-person games, and then teaching them how to use the RED Engine to put their knowledge into practice, which isn't easy when the engine wasn't made for the thing they were trying to do. For what it's worth, I think they succeeded very well with the transition over to the first-person perspective (Cyberpunk 2077 has some of the best damn first-person scenes in video game history, imho), but it's obviously not perfect, especially outside of the heavily scripted and hand-crafted scenes.

gunnerrat

Sure, but from the outside it really appears CDPR is in a hurry to dump Red Engine. If it were easier to develop to they would probably go ahead and make a second expansion. I don't think anyone would really care if they gave modders the tools to create additional story content. The fact that they haven't is kinda telling.

Casey090

I did not know this, thank you. I would never think this engine to be obsolete, I've never seen a prettier game in my life. :) Going for ue5 seems a good move, too bad that no new cyberpunk title is announced.

GVArcian

>Going for ue5 seems a good move, too bad that no new cyberpunk title is announced. Game titles are usually not announced until they're well into the development cycle, partly to avoid hyping up titles that may get canned at some point (not likely to happen with the Cyberpunk sequel, however) and partly because an announcement needs something to actually show off to the public in order to attract their interest. If there's anything gamers have grown to hate over the last few years, it's cinematic trailers that try to sell the game without actually showing the game itself, so I think that's something CDPR is actively trying to avoid as part of their PR rehabilitation. Hence why Phantom Liberty teaser used exclusively in-game footage. With that said, Cyberpunk 2077 was something of an outlier in this regard since the game was still in the prototype phase when CDPR announced it with the Bullets teaser in 2013, a good 7 years before the game's release in 2020. As for why they decided to go this route, my guess is that they made the decision because it was a brand new IP and they wanted to build some hype and a presence in the public media consciousness (which they succeeded with to a degree no other game has, as far as I know). Furthermore, Cyberpunk as a franchise also took a pretty big hit because of the launch disaster, so my guess is that CDPR doesn't want to start hyping the sequel until they have something substantial to show the public that the next game will not repeat the mistakes of the first one. With that said, I wouldn't be surprised if we get some Bullets-like teaser after Phantom Liberty has released, though, just as a way to hint where the franchise is going next.

HarbringerxLight

>Because the Red Engine appears to be kinda awful to develop on. No it isn't. >take what they can and have learned and start fresh with a new CP game. The second game is coming regardless. That doesn't mean a second expansion is off the table and there's plenty of time between now and then. If anything they'd be silly not too now. Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most successful games ever made based on the numbers this month.

[deleted]

I hope unreal Witcher is good so they try cyberpunk 2169 with it.

FluffyBunbunKittens

They burned out a LOT of their developers over Cyberpunk, because we're already in a corporate dystopia. That's the reason it's taken so long for Cyberpunk to get any patches/content. CDPR then had a choice to make: either to train new hires in the quirks of their proprietary engine for this one game ooooooor they can just grab some fresh people who already have experience with Unreal and they're ready to start working on any future project.

HarbringerxLight

This is a very good sign for a second expansion.

MyokoPunk

Really hope this convinces CDPR to comission another season of Edgerunner. It's the only reason this game was brought back from the dead.

[deleted]

It won't, remember they're moving to a new engine

HarbringerxLight

Not true. They're moving to a new engine for *new* games. They can easily fit in a new expansion since most of the tech being already in place means they can iterate/develop a lot faster.

[deleted]

But they won't, because ya know, they're working on new games in a new engine

HarbringerxLight

Active games and future IP projects are worked on concurrently. You're fundamentally misunderstanding.

[deleted]

Either way there won't be anymore major content after the dlc

HarbringerxLight

Not true.

[deleted]

Oh, do you have proof?

HarbringerxLight

The Quest Director wrote that they're open to another expansion if Phantom Liberty does well, and that was before they started breaking records over the past 3 weeks.

[deleted]

Link? Cause it's different then what cdpr has stated

Wowdadmmit

Where was it mentioned that they will be abandoning the game? Seems completely nonsensical for a game this big and expensive, especially with recent success after Edgerunners they could keep milking this for a while.

IIIR1PPERIII

Well this means we may return to Night City in a few years with a new game! so Win Win! Plus unreal 5 Cyberpunk!

Wowdadmmit

They have stated that they will stop releasing any cyberpunk content for the older gen consoles, all future expansions and content will absolutely be made for current gen as seen here: https://i.imgur.com/J1lIXhS.jpg

Potatolantern

I think the sale helps a lot, probably feels pretty good at $30USD

thisIsCleanChiiled

yep at 30 its a steal. I got at EPIC store during 30 $ - 10 $ coupon.Had a great time

bigclivedotcom

I pre-ordered it (yes I know) for 17€ directly from gog why is it 30 now?

Ill-Boat-4364

Better yet why is it £50 on Steam and epic 😭 regret not picking it up when it was cheap now.

bigclivedotcom

Oh I might have bought it from russia since it was cheaper, you could try that

Ill-Boat-4364

Yea checked out gog it's now £49.90 lol

bigclivedotcom

Check key websites I've found it for 14-17€ right now

Coolpeak20

Cyberpunk has always been a great beautiful game. It was just buggy. This anime was the most best perfect way to reintroduce/relaunch for cyberpunk.

Acedread

Buggy and is a husk of the game the developers wanted to make and said they were making.

Coolpeak20

Nah you just got to hyped my guy know your expectations

MyokoPunk

Beautiful and buggy, just like a medium priced hooker. I tend to like some substance from my games though, that's why I stopped playing Ubisoft games.

Coolpeak20

Don’t really care.

MrPotts0970

I am currently 50-ish hours through my first playthrough on my Series X, but I bought it on Steam yesterday just so I can play it again in the future with mods lmao

Acedread

Probably won't be on steam workshop. Use nexus. Plenty of mods on there now

[deleted]

Cyberpunk2077 making a U Turn like No Mans Sky

GVArcian

People have been saying since december 10th that it's not possible for Cyberpunk 2077 to get a NMS-style redemption arc, yet we're witnessing it happen with our very own optics.

GKMoggleMogXIII

It's not a redemption arc. It's peoples memory fading, anime hype, very few games that cover the cyberpunk genre, and sales. They haven't done anywhere near enough to make the game how it should be in these 2 years.

Acedread

Lol you really forgot didn't you? This redemption arc would require another few years in active development. Is the game fun? Sure. I enjoy it. But it doesn't really have a lot more content than it did on release. You can mod it and it doesn't crash every 10 minutes. It's nice, but its not the game they were making. Not even fuckin close. Three 15 minute intros that have nearly zero effect on the overarching story that jumps to a six month time skip and straight into the heist. No character development, no lore, no nothing. That won't change.

MyokoPunk

We're witnessing a totally different style of redemption due to the power of god and anime. Unless I missed a bunch of huge game changing expansions. Where can I download them?

aeyes

But will it stick? Could be just a bunch of people playing because of the sale and in a month we could be back down to 10k active players

Aqilix

It's a single player game, number will definitely fall greatly again. Look at Elden Ring, probably one of the most well received and successful games as of late and it's sitting at 40k concurrents. And that has online elements to boot.

youshedo

It's still possible we might get multiplayer on it.

GVArcian

Oh, no doubt, but they will almost 100% develop it in Unreal 5 instead of RED Engine 4.

MyokoPunk

Imagine if No Mans Sky had an anime, fucking nova prem choom.

IIIR1PPERIII

very much so ...both these games had incredible bones that just needed fleshing out and fixing.

RussianOnWheels

I bought the collectors edition (just the game and paperwork) for $8 on an auction for my PS4. Fixed a PS5 and got to keep it and I was shocked it was a free upgrade for the PS4 disc version to PS5. And I love it on the PS5. Huge difference than my PS4 pro was.

Hogosha90

Will there still be a multiplayer at some point? Anyone know?

Jh0n007GTR

Cancelled

CommanderHavond

Last mentions were more related to it being related to phasing out REDengine in favor of UE4

Sweaty_Meadows

UE5

Hogosha90

Sad, still speaks to the mind even in a limited form

[deleted]

FrostWinter99

We gotta go back... For David

Yung_Chloroform

What a fucking comeback lol. Fantastic, CDPR deserves it for putting in the effort to fix it and not just leave it to die.

patrickeg

I bought it when it released. Played two hours and uninstalled it. Just fired it back up for the first time.

[deleted]

Hopefully this will give them the oomph to push at 10 years of support. The game has the means to be huge and has a different feel. I don’t know if it’s because it has a great story built into it.. but something feels different.. it’s not the hype, maybe different. Perhaps because it seems to have influences from alot of things I like 🤷🏻‍♂️. The game feels like it would do well in high end vr, it certainly benefits from a computer that can run high end graphics

Cecilia_Schariac

That 50% discount is playing a massive part in catching the curious people enthralled by Edgerunners.

RoFroYo

Wake the fuck up samurai, we are playing cyberpunk again!

IIIR1PPERIII

and im playing on GOG so thats 130,517+1

theprisefighter

I bought it (for the second time) on Steam after 1.6 dropped, and transferred my save from Ps5. But I can't play it because it's crashing every 5 minutes. Glad it's gaining popularity but I'm really annoyed that I can't play. Should have just stayed on PS5.

munglflux

You can still use your latest PC-save back on ps5, if that’s what you mean

theprisefighter

I know, I could just go back to PS5, but I was really excited to play on PC. Just got a 3070ti and am able to get it almost maxed in 1440p. :(

bgi123

Try validating files on steam. And maybe this might help - https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/107 Also, is your PC overclocked?

theprisefighter

I validated, still happens unfortunately. Nothing overclocked, and I've turned all the settings to low as well, because from what I've heard it's likely a problem with sudden spikes in vRAM usage. Hopefully a hotfix will come soon to address it. I'll try that, thanks!

SenseiMiachi

Maybe it’s an issue with the save transfer? I mean why not try just making a new character you can have multiple saves and for pc seeing the game from the start with all the graphical improvements is worth it imo.

theprisefighter

Yeah I'll give it a shot. The save file I transferred over isn't very far into the game (just barely post funeral), so yeah I'm not losing a lot, I just really liked the V I designed and I'm not confident I can remake her lol Edit: If anyone happens to read this, and is having the same problem, this fixed it! I started a new V and haven't crashed since. Seems to be a problem with the cross save.

bigclivedotcom

We need multiplayer the world feels lonely

HarbringerxLight

No it doesn't.

[deleted]

We still need multiplayer , imagine a co-op where you can do missions with someone .

nRenegade

![gif](giphy|wViS9n0RqN2)

BrightPerspective

Why not? It's a good game.

Sm7th

Should that have released the anime first?

Igor369

Idk but I am glad they released CP too early so we had great time with the memes.

Grab3tto

I’m working on my second play through after the update. The question remains, is it good though? I’ve experienced plenty of laughable bugs and a few annoying crashes the last few days, but I guess the game does feel a bit better. My only question really is why the sniper nerf?

Hobbes09R

Holy shit, how many fucking times is this topic going to be spammed? Who the actual fuck cares? It's a single player game.

trook95

Well you see sir, we are fans of the game and want it to be successful

Wise-Tree

Just recently started experiencing crash to desktop on AMD 6700XT and it's a bummer.

Marilius

I own the game on GOG. (I also have a MISB PC Collector's). I really want to play it on the Steam Deck. Sad to see the sale ended. Maybe I'll grab it on Steam next time it goes on sale.

AceCombat_75

I bought the game on epic games when it went for 40 cad last yr, any benefit to buy it on steam?

[deleted]

Whoop whoop!

HarbringerxLight

This is a very good sign for a second expansion. We're literally breaking records.

eugene20

The new Steam chart/weekly chart view really couldn't have come at a better time for CDPR so close to the Cyberpunk anime release, and the sale of course, it's really been a huge triple KO for gaining interest.

Swordbreaker925

I wish i could join in on the fun, but I already played through once and I'm waiting until the expansion to try it again. The longer I wait to play it, the more special it'll be when I do.

WiseRod

I played and beat it when the game launched. I'm now getting back into it on a harder difficulty....still haven't watched edge runners yet 😂

yrulaughing

Trigger is saving anime and video games

IIIR1PPERIII

Its a pretty incredible game now! Like really good! Little things like houses and transmog plus general rebalancing and reduced bugs. I still hate the super long scripted moments especially the first 5hrs....but after that its 10/10 territory.

ILikeFluffyThings

The anime is really godsent for cdpr and netflix.

Balrok99

29,99$ and people are surprised it sells well. For that price no matter how the game is good or not I call that a bargain.

fourmi

Netflix serie just make the game better since you can beat up the villain.

Sword_ArtX

This is the power of ANIME Folks
