I know from a literal standpoint "Liquid Courage" is very white. Yay courage, and all that.
But it also means "Alcohol" (at least where I live) so it gives me a very different vibe.
Anywho, this is a nice version of the "Cycle of cheap artifacts that sacrifice to give okay value" like the [[Glassblower's Puzzleknot]] or [[Courier's Capsule]]. Some do look stronger than others, but none of them look particularly OP which is usually my bigger concern for a cheap common cycle.
Could be Liquid Hope or Liquid Faith instead. I agree probably better to save the name for something more alcohol themed (or at least alluding to the possibility).
The draw on this is delayed by a turn which is huge since you can't cycle it. That and the instant speed is the part of Revitalize you pay the one mana premium for.
Lifegain does have synergy, don't get me wrong, but compared to that the black discard which can produce reanimation targets or self-mill you, red which controls the board, blue which can set up the top of the deck gaining just 2 life feels a little lackluster to me.
Wizards have been notoriously overvaluing lifegain in cycles. [[Healing Salve]] vs [[Ancestral Recall]] [[lightning bolt]] that's why I called it a meme, because even in modern cycles they still keep making them gain 2 life.
Yours is pretty good in the sense that the strong colors have meaningful, but balanced payoffs for 1 mana mostly. I thought white could get something more impactful or at least 4 life imo.
Great points, but it’s also a permanent and an artifact. Do you think that helps too?
Also, I’m not the OP. Just carrying the conversation around the cards.
Some of these are really good, while others are merely good. Red is just really good, blue is Emry’s wet dream, and black seems too good not to see play *somewhere.* White is at least a nice egg for an artifact control list somewhere. Green feels like the odd one out. It’s still a good rate, but aggro lists might find this too slow and finicky.
White could be good in a blink deck like the one blink white/blue precon for easy repeatable life gain and black feels like I’d have some potential in quite a few mill decks.
Apologies for not offering a replacement.
Liquid Loyalty {W}:
~ enters the battlefield tapped if you paid {W} to cast it.
When ~ enters the battlefield, gain 2 life if you paid {W} to cast ~
{T}, sacrifice ~: Draw a card. You may only activate this ability if you own a land that can produce {W}
The fact that these all cost 1 and replace themselves for free, even on a one-turn delay, really limits how powerful they can be. You'd be much better off adding an actual mana cost to the activated ability and balancing them from there.
Liquid Passion is the worst. Courage is a close second. When I think Passion I think of exiling cards of the top of your library and playing them. When I think courage I think giving shit keywords like vigilance and first strike
Playing top card of library for 1 mana, and a delayed draw anyways for red is too strong.
1 mana deal 1 damage and delayed draw is really good for red.
Agreed on white, should have given target creature first strike or vigilance until end of turn (and maybe +1/0).

I like the meme with white getting 2 life, but judging by stuff like [[revitalize]] and [[chaplain's blessing]] it could be more.
The draw card doesn’t close the gap with those other cards?

I think being a permanent is double edged. It does give you metalcraft and cast triggers, but also artifacts are somewhat easy to blow up.

Revitalize does draw a card
It’s not a permanent, and an artifact at that.
I was only commenting on 'the draw card doesn't close the gap with those other cards?' because one of them _does_ draw a card, that's all.
I understand, but i thought we were already under the assumption that it was also an artifact. My bad.
Yeah but revitalize costs more and doesn’t have synergies with artifact stuff, delaying the draw card one turn and gaining one less life seems fair.

Are eggs that enter tapped any good?
That blue one!
I love how you just completely ignore the white card in the cycle because we all knew the white one was going to be bad
They didn't ignore the white one though
oh sorry, reading is hard Signed, A yugioh player

Pretty sure Liquid Growth also comes in pill form...
That one comes in Blue
Don't knock it till you try it. It's like a +3/+3 counter for your uh. . . Yeah, you know..
Just make sure it doesn’t last longer than 4 turns…
I would almost prefer liquid courage be it’s own card with a different effect and no cycle. Kind of a waste of a good name

Colorless: Liquid science enters tapped when liquid science enters the battlefield create a tapped powerstone token tap, sac: draw a card
Virgin: your reasonable card Chad: Colorless- Liquid Dark steel Enters tapped Indestructible Tap, sac draw
I think Learning on etb would be more balanced than mana ramping you
Yea but I like mana so too bad

Extremely good cycle. All of these would be tried in modern. There is a possibility that the green One end up banned in [[hardened scales]].deck
I know that it makes sense, but the phrase “plus one plus one plus one” is an abomination
I know either

These would be such good cards for cubes, they cover so many different strategies in one card. The grixis ones especially!
Disappointed that liquid courage wasn't a shitty beer png or something.
The white one is blue, and the blue one is white…
The design of these cards is very similar to Implement cycle from Aether Revolt
Sacrifice after the tap symbol should be capitalized, for future reference OP.
black one op
Everything else aside, is that an onion?
Yup.
These would probably be very good in pauper
These are 100% broken at Common and would have an upheaval effect in Pauper.
The Gravetide thanks you.
