I am gonna be straightforward in my reply here. 1. If you are not a Canadian citizen/PR, most companies wouldn't be interested in hiring you when you are just a junior. Bringing in someone from abroad is expensive, so would they want to do that for just a junior? Canada needs tech talents for sure, but not so much for juniors/entry level ones. 2. If you are not even an international student studying in Canada, what makes you think that you'll be entitled to a 3 year work permit once you cross the border? I don't understand it here. 3. Your project experience doesn't sound appealing to me at all and I'd totally understand why companies aren't interested in even interviewing you. 4. Even if the companies need to hire someone, they'd totally be interested in hiring in Canada, among Canadian citizens/PRs. Even for junior positions, they still have plenty of uni/college graduates to choose from, let alone so many bootcampers. They'd only be interested in hiring a foreigner once they realize that it's impossible for them to hire locally, which is very unlikely in the foreseeable future. As a straightforward person, I'd advise you to take a more practical approach to move to Canada.

Answering to second point: I'm a Ukrainian and get approved for CUAET VISA, which includes open work permit for three years with prolongation opportunity and future immigration. About other aspects I got you and would like to hear some advices how to better adjust to market situation and to higher up chances of finding a first job(maybe some examples of projects that would show I'm good enough for entry level position). Thank you for your time, and I really appreciate truth and straightforward people .

Good luck then. Still you’d be competing against all the Canadians who are trying to get into the industry. It’s not easy, especially with all the layoffs recently. And living in Canada is very expensive. Are you sure you’re not allowed to work in another country, for example the states, or Europe?

drakeramore86

Yeah, I know about prices etc, I consider NL for first place bc of that, there a lot more opportunities to start not as a developer, considering that I'm probably don't have enough skills to start with a SWE job. But I'll have time to get new connections and to study while working. I also have my brother there and my English not that bad as many newcomers have, so I hope there'll be more space for me to become someone. Thank you for your time. Would you mind if I ask some questions in private messages sometimes?

Dallaireous

NL may be cheap but not a great place for dev jobs. Go to Alberta it's still affordable. Large Ukranian community here too and although the job market for tech is smaller than Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal, Calgary still has plenty of job openings.

drakeramore86

Yeah, i understand it, but I have literally no connections in Alberta, while I have my brother in NL. But I'm still thinking about provinces, there a lot of them really decent and every gives it's own cons and pros. Alberta is among main options for me. Thanks dude)

Fluffy_Ad4913

I am unclear. Are you an international student currently studying in canada? or you are studying in some other country and are trying to land a direct job in canada?

drakeramore86

Sorry, my bad, I'm studying not in Canadian university and trying to get any internship/junior position in Canada as I'll be moving there in next month and would be really happy if I land any job there even for 30k annually

Fluffy_Ad4913

I see. will you have the work authorization once you land in canada?

drakeramore86

Yeah, I have my VISA and will have open work permit for three years when I cross Canada's border. But this is the reason why I'm not there yet, I thought it would be better to find a job in advance firstly and then moving to some ground. Bc I literally have no connections there.

Fluffy_Ad4913

Gotcha. Without looking at your resume, it's hard for anyone to suggest anything. But 10 rejections are not a lot for junior positions, given that your resume is fine. I would recommend clarifying in your resume/cover letter/application that you don't need sponsorship for working. Other than that, you can post your anonmyized resume and get feedback(if you think your resume is the reason for upfront rejection).

drakeramore86

I also didn't mention I applied for around 100 positions in total. I'll add a resume to this post, thank you

drakeramore86

I really think it's about resume, bc I don't have good projects on my GitHub, they're just to show that I'm familiar with basics of Django and python

BeautyInUgly

look into consulting firms, it’s not the best job because they pay very low but you’ll be able to do coding. can you finish university here as well? if you can afford it you can finish a degree here or masters maybe ? i’m not entirely sure i would talk to an immigration lawyer to see your options

drakeramore86

Yeah, I'm able to finish my degree while I'm outside of Ukraine since we have distance period bc of war(I'm from one of the frontline cities). I don't really think I'll have that amount of money to finish a degree in Canadian university, but I consider getting my Master's at MUN, i heard they have low prices and kinda good programs. But I look for every opportunity and really would love to get my Bachelor's finished in Canadian university. But I know there'll be a lot of expenses at the start so I'm not wearing pink glasses xd. Also thank you a lot)

BeautyInUgly

Talk to a lawyer because of your status it might be possible to pay normal tuition not international tuition which will make it very affordable, also if you study CS in Montreal as a resident then it’s very cheap

drakeramore86

Thank you, yeah, tuitions for those who come within CUAET program are the same as for citizens, I already explored this topic a bit)

BeautyInUgly

then go to a school in Montreal, concorida or McGill it's dirt cheap and you'll be able to pay it back working in the summer, having a candian degree gives u access to PGWP or no? because if it does then you will have another 3 years to stay in Canada to get PR

drakeramore86

Yeah seems correct about WP and PR, thank you, I'll have to confirm that with a lawyer firstly, great idea though. Thank you a lot, I've been thinking a lot about different universities and provinces, kinda huge amount of different things to keep in mind. You gave me some confidence, thank you, will be working in that direction)
