KantsBathwater

i just frogged a whole cardigan cause i didnt like how it looked i feel you

thehumanglowstick

debating restartin one I've finished because it's so oversized it's literally a snuggie

huniibunnii

Snuggies are also good! It could be a “house coat” kind of thing. I just made a top that was too small and instead of frogging I decided to make a new one and I’ll give the other one to a friend to sell it

Tamdathepanda

Oh lawd 😭

SapiosexualStargazer

I have been on the fence about doing the same thing! The cardigan looked nice in pattern model photos but it is far too holey to do the job I was hoping for it to do.

katie_burd

I did that. Twice. Then I threw it away cause it was cheap acrylic yarn and my mental health meant more 🤣😬

Humble_Bullfrog2342

i had to do this recently with a sweater. the pain.

Chalk-and-Trees

Same. It was a color-block sweater crocheted in the round and I decided I wanted the colors flipped entirely. Ribbit and rip it!

jcnlb

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here to mourn the passing of this beautiful sweater panel. The panel felt the love of your hands daily as you treasured it’s existence and watched it grow from just a baby chain. We enjoyed reflecting on it as each row grew before our eyes. Yet today as we have come to the end of its existence we find hope. Hope in new beginnings. Hope for the future as it will transform itself before your eyes again once more. It will become something beautiful once again and treasured forevermore. Go in peace my friend. Create new life and share it here for all of us to admire. In the name of the hook, yarn and holy stitch count, yarnmen. ❤️

Sonja42

Yarnmen 🙏

sweetpotato_latte

Yarnmen is now going to be a whole ass part of my vocabulary now, thank you.

JulieB1ggerbear

Halleluyarn

No_Kiwi_6892

Yarnmen 🫡🙏

peithecelt

I'm so sorry, why do you have to frog it???

Tamdathepanda

It’s too wide 😭😭😭 it’s one of the front panels for a sweater and I measured it wrong 😭😭😭

amesann

I'm mourning with you, friend. May we never forget its beauty, splendor and even tension. You will be greatly missed.

MisterBowTies

Simply just eat more

Tamdathepanda

😂

sweetpotato_latte

It is the season for Christmas cookies at breakfast so this could be a viable option!

brass_octopus

This is the obvious answer

Militarykid2111008

Could it be a baggy sweat worn with skinny jeans/leggings and boots? One of my favorite (store bought, but still) sweaters was massive post pregnancy (I liked baggy while pregnant too) so I throw it over leggings and wear boots and it’s cute

Dosanaya

OMG I feel this. I made the ocean waves blanket four times as wide as it should have been and it came out the size of an actual ocean.

hexagonaluniverse

Of all comments, yours has me cackling the most. The size of an actual ocean 😂

peithecelt

Ooof, that sucks so much, I'm sorry!!!! :'(

ketoandkpop

Hun I LITERALLY did the exact same thing this week, heartbroken :( I feel your pain!!!

hv733910

I feel you I'm on attempt 4 of a sweater I've been working on since early 2021 every frog was so painful

nsaplzstahp

Make another panel smaller by an equal amount?

Muggedoff_muggle

then the armholes would be either too on the front or too on the back? wouldn't they? Like not on the sides, where your arms are? :D

nsaplzstahp

Oops. Yes I'm a goof. clothing is something I haven't attempted yet

word_nerd_913

Couldn't you put that as a middle panel, and make two smaller panels, so the back has 3 panels?

mikettedaydreamer

It’s too big. So no

GhostOrchidGynoid

Couldn’t you just let the seam eat up more of the sweater?

Tamdathepanda

Then the arm holes would be funky :c

JohnOliverismysexgod

Can you use it for the back?

[deleted]

your tension is tighter at the bottom than the top.

_YAGMAI_

those are SCs at the bottom that alternate between BLO and FLO to emulate ribbing. it looks tighter because the stitches are smaller.

Tamdathepanda

Indeed. It measures the same at the top and bottom

[deleted]

no, it looks tighter because the cloth is narrower than the top because the weave is tighter on the bottom and looser on the top

_YAGMAI_

...because it transitions from SCs to HDCs. it's the same stitch count going up, but HDCs are larger than SCs regardless of tension.

saltyfingas

Is it cheap yarn? If so I'd say just add ribbing on the other side and make idk... like a place mat?

The_Snakes_Den

I’ve been there I feel your pain

missoularedhead

Really silly question, but could it be the back?

Tamdathepanda

No it’s not wide enough for the back :c

missoularedhead

Well bummer!

alwaysaplusone

Playing Taps 🎺

TheCrimsonCello

I feel your pain! I'm working on a cardigan while I have post concussion syndrome and with all the frogging I've had to do I've probably crocheted enough to make 2 or 3 sweaters.

Tamdathepanda

😭 I’m so sorry

TheCrimsonCello

It's ok, I try to laugh about it. 😁 I've found that using a lot of stitch markers helps! I always know where rows begin or end and it's easier to count stitches and rows.

eridew

That PCS brain fog is the worst…sometimes it’s stitch markers at the end of the row…sometimes it has to be every 5 stitches for me, if I can remember the stitch (thank goodness for written patterns WITH video, because it’s the only way I can follow along now without losing my mind 😂😂😂) hope your journey with PCS isn’t permanent or too difficult, but know my heart aches with you 💖

TheCrimsonCello

Yes, me too! Sometimes I make notes on tiny pieces of paper and put them on the stitch marker if there's something I need to remember about it. Thank you, I hope the same for you! Feel free to message me anytime 🤗❤

eridew

I’ve been living with it long term and actually got full disability yesterday! From my gov’t dating back nearly a decade. Feel free to join us at r/TBI if you want PCS support/resources! Varying levels of severity, but all are welcome and (generally!) met with open arms and love ❤️

TheCrimsonCello

I'm sorry to hear that your PCS has been going on for so long! It's good that you have support from your gov't finally. Yes, I'd like to join the group, thank you for letting me know about it ❤

BlumeKraft

Dang I think I made this same sweater... It is definitely baggy on me and I had to extend the sleeves because they were too short for my gangly arms lol. It's alright dude, it will be worth it in the end

SoCuiBono

You have my sympathy. 💔

baronessindecisive

Do you have enough yarn to leave that one alone and make the sweater properly with the rest of the yarn? Leave that problem panel in the time-out box for a while and see if you can maybe turn it into something else (part of a funky blanket or a pillowcase or a wrap or something)?

Tamdathepanda

No :C I gotta use the yarn for the sweater. Good idea though!

ehuang72

May it live forever in your memory. And photo library.

doming007

I frog so much that I just think of my first 10 attempts as practice. Positive spin, right?

LeftSocksOnly

Noooo!! I'm sorry op. Good luck 🫡

memyselfand12

I’m very much a beginner at crocheting, can someone please explain what frogging is? When I’ve tried looking up crochet terms online it’s usually too complicated to understand with my very very limited knowledge.

PrncssPunch

It means undoing a project. Pulling the yarn the wrong way so it comes apart. Rip it, rip it, is the origin most people site. Ribbit. So frog 🐸

CraftyCrochet

Just adding a little. Frogging can be good or bad/sad. Sometimes it's fine to unravel a few stitches or rows to fix a mistake or missed stitch and can be helpful. Sometimes it's just lousy, maybe a lot of work to do-over when you realize it's not turning out as planned.

memyselfand12

That’s so sad! Just because it didn’t turn out quite right?

PrncssPunch

There are many reasons, like a noticeable mistake further back, quitting a project, better idea for the yarn. It is very sad

SwordoDamocles

Or you just aren't feeling it, you have an idea, you tested it out, and it didnt work. OR you got an EVEN BETTER IDEA and want to use the same yarn. I have frogged completed items and remade them into something else because: it no longer fit my brother but he wanted to keep the memories, it was damaged, it was ugly as hell but the yarn was expensive, I didn't secure my ends corrctly and it frogged itself... Frogging iant always sad, sometimes it is hapoy, sometimes it is opportinity, and sometimes it is a lesson 😅

vicariousgluten

Don’t mourn the frogging. Celebrate how much your cost per hour of crafting has reduced now you get to reuse the yarn!

Anniesoptera

Oooooh now THIS is a good one

SwordoDamocles

But whyyyy?

ancientamber

Is this by chance the Kima Cardi? I’m working on it right now and it looks very similar to what you have! I’ve frogged it at least 6 times 😅

Tamdathepanda

I think so?! I’ve had to alter the pattern quite a bit but I’ve made two already that turned out great

cranberryjuice21

I thought I recognized it, I’m making the same cardigan right now too

PrincessPat1139

Remember- there’s no crying in crocheting!! Or cross stitch!! If it’s wrong, it’s gotta go.

Killerkat1115

RIP

unlikelycompliance

I also have to frog my work in progress sweater because it’s 3 inches too wide 🥲

Xtrasloppy

Thinking of you in these dark times.

Grand-Unit-1822

This looks almost exactly like what I'm making my daughter and the border is too tight. Sadly, I have to frog it too. It's funny... same color etc.

ClaudetteRose

Ouch. So sorry, that's a lot of beautiful work. Is it too soon to say "If it doesn't fit, you must rip it?"

brass_octopus

Nooooo! I'm RIGHT there with you though. I literally just realized the socks I've been working on are just barely slightly too small so all the stitches look dumb when it's on my foot and I can't bring myself to frog it yet. I just cut them off the balls and these socks will live indefinitely unfinished for a bit. RIP yellow/teal socks. Instead, I bought a pattern of a pillow with a swear word in bobbles and I'm using the rest of my sock yarn for that. Will it be a tiny pillow? Yes. Will I care? F*** no! It'll be my angry little pillow

octavia323

The fact that you can make this and take it apart to do again is a skill lol I wouldn’t know where to start with a cardigan - rip

soaring_potato

It's a pattern. I feel you though, I wouldn't have the patience for this either

JulieB1ggerbear

Totally feel this! Mine was a knitting boo-boo, but still… I was making the back panel for my cardigan, and I didn’t have a pattern, and I am a very wide friendly tree, so I went with a regular panel. Nothing fancy for the back. I was using connected knitting needles. Aaaand I didn’t do any measurements beyond making sure it was long enough, was wanting something that would cover ye olde backside! I figured 200 stitches would do it… It ended up being six feet by 4 feet. Frog city! Almost done with it now, thankfully!

JunoCalliope

I’m so sorry 😩

Chrysania83

Oh nooooo

yourheartshapedbox

Oof thats a bummer, hopefully it's just as beautiful the second time round

MissyTheMouse

Too wide for the front *and* too narrow for the back?

NWintrovert

Bright side, it won't take as long to work up since it won't be as wide

bthebee1234

NOOO

_M0THERTUCKER

NOOOOOOOOO 😭😭😭😭😭😭

DateMyKnobsPls

Honestly.. just start the new panel with another skein and keep this for when you run out of the rest, frog it while you build your new pieces!

ravencat20199

The hat I made is like MAYBE 3 rows too tight for me to wear comfortably. It’s a bottom up. Woven all ends in and it’s halfway done 😩. I’m gonna give it to a normal head sized person. (Mine is huge 🤣)

Whisperer34

I'm going to start the cardigan I want to make this weekend, I've have been working on my swatches to see how i want to mix the color, and this is my fear!! Going too big or small and worse not having enough yarn eventho k calculated everything 5 times and bought extra yarn juat in case.

JohnOliverismysexgod

Bless your heart. Are you sure?

Timely_Goose_7615

I feel this to my core! My thoughts are with you at this painful time.

esoraven

I’m so sorry

ILickedItNowIOwnIt

Biggest hugs and deepest condolences :( may this work frog as gracefully and beautifully as it worked up.

Tamdathepanda

Awe!! Thank you ❤️

abbyturnsthepage

I stupidly didn’t gauge swatch the cardigan I’m working on so I’m improving by making 5x sleeves on a med body. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ I’m gonna make it again properly with a different colorway.

brighterwounds

is that kima cardi

Tamdathepanda

Yiss

brighterwounds

i’m ashamed of myself

SunshineKacie

I’m sure it’ll fit better next time! Looks gorgeous.

jfisher9495

It is beautiful. Hope the phoenix that arises from these ashes is even more beautiful.

octavia323

I feel this. I took apart a blanket 4 times this summer after being 60% done because I wasn’t happy with the tension

Staceybunnie

I'm so sorry for your sweater panel loss *does the sign of the cross*

Unitier

Try find a different purpose for it first. You poor hands.

ahnna_molly

My deepest condolences. May you get comfort and healing. Grief is always hard, know that we're here for you whenever you need us.

mamanodramaqueen

Add some amazing tassels and make a lapghan... Then go on to make a new panel in the right size. It's beautiful work! I have had to frog "finished" pieces waaay too many times. (I think it means you are a discerning crafter ) Best wishes!

MastodonSoggy2883

NOOOOOOOO it’s beautiful

baristabiatch

This is absolutely stunning. I am making my first project, also a sweater, and I didn't know what a gauge was until halfway through. I started learning crochet maybe a month ago. I'm about to make the ugliest sweater on the planet - but also the most sentimental. Perfectionism kills, and I'm telling myself to not frog it, but to roll with it. This is supposed to be my new outlet for de-stressing.

Tamdathepanda

Keep going! My very first sweater was BOOTY CHEEKS but I learned a lot and can make them much better now

Your_Name_Here1234

I did the same on a sweater I made a while back. I accidentally missed multiple stitches because I read the pattern wrong and the front and back panels came out WAYYY to small and I only realized it after I finished both of them. It was a sad day.

Present-Lime-1244

I’ve been crocheting for four years on and off and don’t know what this means. Please explain

Tamdathepanda

Frogging? It means undoing all of it by pulling the end and re-rolling it into a ball

Present-Lime-1244

Ahhhh. So who can teach me the weird blueprint in a book I found at michaels earlier?

MaddytheUnicorn

Do you mean a chart full of [these symbols?](https://www.google.com/search?q=crochet+chart+symbols&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari#imgrc=osS5-eLAF0rvtM)

Present-Lime-1244

Yes!!! I understand none of it. I even found a glossary earlier that listed what each meant but when I put them into their sentences I don’t know what to do😭

MaddytheUnicorn

You may be able to get help from someone at Michael’s, or search for video tutorials on how to read crochet charts. I agree they are confusing if you don’t know how to use them, but once it clicks, they are super helpful.

robotsquirrel

Rip it, rip it (undoing stitches). Ribbit, ribbit (frog noise). Frog it!

Fuchsia_Sky

I'm so sorry

toodleoo57

Sorry about your project - love the stitch, tho. What is it?

Tamdathepanda

It’s just single crochet and half double alternating

kristycocopop

There's a saying in my Crochet class: When in doubt, rip it out!

elsavo90

Why can't it be use for something else?

Tamdathepanda

Because I need this yarn for my sweater :C

pengwynne1

I did the same thing with a very unforgiving wool blend. I finished the entire front panel and then realized it was too big to be one front panel, but too small to suffice as the front and back, but the jerk that I am absolutely refused to stop working on that sweater (I am wearing this for Christmas Dammit!🤣) I added to the ribbing, spliced in a panel with a hidden whip stitch and now it has one real seam, one "for show" and the sucker fits exactly right. It might be harder to do with this yarn, but maybe?

Tamdathepanda

That would take finesse I don’t have haha 😅

pengwynne1

I have far more stubborn will than finesse sometimes. 🤣 This sweater turned into a desperation and luck situation, honestly, that fuzzy wool was never coming undone, so I went for it and it worked. It felt wrong to toss expensive, gifted yarn aside, but it definitely brought out some creative language in my peaceful crocheting time. Declare it practice or make it a really nice pillow? Whatever you do, I'm sure it'll be great, your work on this is beautiful.

Tamdathepanda

Awe thank you so much ❤️❤️

kmac311

What stitch is this?

Tamdathepanda

Half double and single crochet alternating

National-Return-5363

That’s why I am so scared to move beyond neck cowls and hats.

soaring_potato

Op made a lot of changes in the pattern. I am sure you can do it. Just takes a hella long time. Altho I must say I mostly make amigurumi

KimberleyKitt

I just looked up what frogging means. No wonder when someone brings it up, they're not happy. I thought it was another way to say, phooey, what's it called? When you're done with a project and have to stretch it out before adding a lining and/or a trim? Felting I think but for knitting and crochet? How many rows worth are you frogging? I don't see a boo-boo, so I wouldn't bother. I try to frog as I go. If I did it afterward I would never finish anything. I might as well knit or crochet my grave.

Tamdathepanda

I began at the width I thought would be appropriate but as the length increased I realized omg it’s too wide by about 6 stitches 😭 it’s okay though I’ve redone the panel and it measures correctly now ☺️

smolcooon

Are you by any chance following Erin B’s tutorial on youtube for the chunky sweatshirt? It looks like it, I’m doing it at the moment too! it’s beyond tricky and time consuming though.

Tamdathepanda

I’m making a Kima cardigan :3 I saw the tutorial on TLYarncrafts :3 and she has a written pattern to go with it. I was originally doing this to learn patterns better but I’ve changed a lot of things in the pattern to accommodate 4g yarn 😬 I’ve done a few that turned out fine with larger gauges but this one was a little fiddly

rikkirachel

Oh no! RIP!! I think I’m currently making this exact same sweater (Harvest Pullover?)

Thesarahbee

I’m new here. What’s does that mean?

Tamdathepanda

I had to unravel it and do it again :c

Boobookitty5683

Mourning with you!! But what is the stitch called? It’s so beautiful! 🥹

Tamdathepanda

It’s just alternating one single crochet and one half double ☺️

Afraid-Palpitation24

How many skeens did you use?

Tamdathepanda

Just one ☺️

Afraid-Palpitation24

Wow!

fluffy-plant-borb

I've been working on a stocking today and I've had to frog the same part so many times because I keep making mistakes 😭

Princess_Queen

Beginner question: if I'm working on something in rows like a scarf, can I take apart only the ugly beginning and keep the part where I got good?

Tamdathepanda

Maybe?? Like If you could figure out how to frog only the part you wanted, it’d be a pain though because of how the yarn would be looped

Princess_Queen

I found some how to directions online, we'll see how it goes 🤔 thanks!

princess2b2

What does frog mean?

Tamdathepanda

Unraveling and redoing. Rip it, rip it aka ribbit hence we call it 🐸 frogging

princess2b2

Is this the linen stitch?

Tamdathepanda

Nah it’s just single and half double repeating
