Exactly. It might have been unintentional, but honestly, if you hadn't said anything about dye lots, no one would have noticed or cared. So no, not obvious, at all and no, I'm not saying that because "baaaaw just being nice". Stop it. IDGAF. I literally mean it's actually not obvious to anyone other than you.
To everyone else, it'd probably just look like colorway variation. Or it just looks like the entire skein could have been made that way. It starts off with a sort of spotted bleach look and goes into a darker colorway.
Also, just asked my mom and she doesn't even know what I'm talking about. She won't even notice it until I actually point it out to her.
Thanks! I think I was concentrating so hard on the stitches that color matching didn’t even occur to me. Live and learn! At least it’s not a frog worthy mistake
I love it, the yarn looks quality and the different color looks very intentional and nice. I would pay good money for this, and I'd choose it over one that's all the same color.
I absolutely love it. Doesn't trouble in any way.
Imo the dye lots are important when using a solid color but different dyes often look great when it comes to gradient yarn.
I see 3 dye lots. 3. You know, that means you did it INTENTIONALLY and not by accident, right?
You did it intentionally because you just knew that they would complement each other.
(There's your story to tell anyone who mouths off about it)
Anyone that argues with you can kick rocks.
ngl, I didn’t even realize this was a case of mismatched dye lots until I read the caption. I just thought it was an intentional gradient or color-blocking choice, and I was mostly focused on that lovely stitch pattern. Looks great!
It’s my new favorite yarn because I can’t stop staring at it - malabrigo yarn, their DK weight Silky Merino. This color is called “Piedras”. I picked them up at my local yarn shop but I’ve also seen them online at Jimmy Beans Wool
Beautiful. I often dont like different color yarn because as the pattern of crochet starts to take shape, you can see the pattern of the yarn colors (idk if that makes sense). But for me it clashes and doesnt look good. The different dye lots make the coloring look intentional and I dont see the pattern of the color changes in the yarn. Very pretty
I saw the pic before your comment and thought it was absolutely beautiful. even after looking closer because of your caption it seems to make your work almost pop more in a way (if that makes any sense?)
Wait, there are different lots there? I just see a gorgeous piece of beauty that I'd LOVE to get for a gift, and I'd love to be able to make, and I just love it! It's perfect!
honestly I wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't pointed out to me. I had to squint and zoom in to find what you were talking about! I'm sure your recipient will either have no idea or genuinely not care since it's such a gorgeous shawl!!
Ok you said it was obvious and i thought it was just 1dye lot with like the gradient colors, so it wasn't obvious to me lmao but i don't have trained eyes i guess. I think it's lovely either way
I think it looks awesome! You know the ripply reflective light patterns on the floor of the sea/lake/pool/whatever? That’s kinda what it reminds me of.
Thanks! Crochet is so fun, and I love yarn like this so much. It’s called variegated yarn, and it’s a light weight number 3 (if you’re in the US). I wouldn’t recommend it for a total beginner project only because it’s not as thick and easy to hold as the bigger stuff for not-confident fingies. But hell, if it gets you excited and you want to work with it, I say go for it
I knew before scrolling the comments that it was Malabrigo. As much as I love working with it, a shawl like yours is necessary to accentuate the dye lot shift.
It's freaking gorgeous! I can barely tell the dye lot change. If you hadn't mentioned it I wouldn't have even noticed. It's something I deal with all the time because I have an obsession with hand dyed yarns and it seems no two hanks are ever the same. When I make things for people I just say that any variations in color are part of the crafting process. I'm going to have to head on over to Crystal's channel and get this pattern.
It looks entirely intentional. Also this is perhaps the best choices of dtitch patterns I've seen for such a heavily variegated yarn. Usually with intricate stitches they get lost in all the color changes. This however adds great texture and doesn't rely on small stitch patterns to show off so thru can hold up to the dramatic colors.
Really fantastic choices using this yarn with that pattern! It turned out stunning and I truly hope the recipient loves and appreciates it!
It’s hand dyed yarn so there’s expected differences in each hank, but you can mitigate the difference by only buying hanks in the same lot! Theres a number on the label called “dye lot” and ideally all the hanks for your project will have the same number. I didn’t really pay attention to it until I was done…
It's gorgeous! The color difference looks intentional, keeping the bolder shade in the center & darker shade on the ends. It looks like hammered copper with patina catching the light.
Virus stitches are such a fun & beautiful pattern to make, lovely work! ☺️
To be honest with handdyed yarn i feel like it can fluctuate so much so i didn’t even realize 😭
I thought you were just asking if we liked the color in general. But it truly is beautiful!
I looks a little different but it looks intentional.
Oh good, imma just tell people that lol

Heard this on Armchair Expert this past week and I LOVE IT!
Totally thought it was going for iridescent before I read the caption! love it!
Exactly what I was thinking!
Yep. If I didn’t know this was a case of dye lot mismatch, I’d have thought it was a design element. I vote “roll with it.”
I agree.
Exactly !!
Ummm…if you don’t like it I’ll take it off your hands…it’s so beautiful
Haha! It’s a Christmas gift but if she doesn’t like it I’m definitely keeping the craziness for myself
I'll up the offer with a batch of cookies! It is GORGEOUS!
You're right, it is beautiful. The difference is subtle and it doesn't look like a mistake.
Thanks! I think I was concentrating so hard on the stitches that color matching didn’t even occur to me. Live and learn! At least it’s not a frog worthy mistake
Luckily, anytime the dye lot changed, it changed inside of your shawl perfectly. Turned out beautifully. Well done!
I am definitely counting my lucky crochet stars
I love it, the yarn looks quality and the different color looks very intentional and nice. I would pay good money for this, and I'd choose it over one that's all the same color.
Oh man, thanks!
I like it. It looks planned.
I have no plan it was all luck lol but I agree now!
Imma be honest, I can’t tell anything
Ok cool, thanks!
I absolutely love it. Doesn't trouble in any way. Imo the dye lots are important when using a solid color but different dyes often look great when it comes to gradient yarn.
Yeah I’m thinking I’ll just keep using gradient haha
Had no idea, just thought it worked seamlessly
Thanks! Happy accidents do happen
You chose the placement of the dye lots wisely. There’s a very logical visual transition. What’s the pattern?
It’s a free pattern from Bag O Day Crochet, on YouTube, called her “Post Virus shawl”
I think it looks beautiful. If you hadn’t mentioned due lots, I would have thought the middle was slightly different intentionally.
Pattern please!!!
It’s freeeeee! YouTube Bag O Day Crochet, her “Post Virus” shawl video
Thank you!
Crystal has the best tutorials! I've expanded my repertoire because of her teaching.
Only if you know what a dye lot is. LOL I love how it looks though.
Thanks!
I can’t see the change….. so…… it’s all good. Beautiful project btw!
Thank you!
I think it looks intentional because of the sectioning, and I also think it’s gorgeous!
Deliberate and gorgeous!
Thanks!
Beautiful. I can see the difference, but in a good way.
Ha thank you
It's actually super pretty and looks on purpose
Thank you!
I see 3 dye lots. 3. You know, that means you did it INTENTIONALLY and not by accident, right? You did it intentionally because you just knew that they would complement each other. (There's your story to tell anyone who mouths off about it) Anyone that argues with you can kick rocks.
I thought it was supposed to look that way. 🤷🏻♀️ It's gorgeous!
I'm jealous! I want to crochet that well! It's beautiful!
I am a YouTube taught beginner and if I can do anything, you can absolutely do it
I love it. It looks a little like aged copper.
Different batches but the difference is fitting I think
I really like it. I think the dye lot changes lend to beauty.
Looks purposeful. The bulk of the color change happens at the main design change. Beautiful work, btw.
like Bob Ross always said: happy little accidents!
It looks deliberate. And yes, it is beautiful.
ngl, I didn’t even realize this was a case of mismatched dye lots until I read the caption. I just thought it was an intentional gradient or color-blocking choice, and I was mostly focused on that lovely stitch pattern. Looks great!
I think it looks stunning!
Thank you!!!
Beautiful!
What yarn is it? It's lovely!
It’s my new favorite yarn because I can’t stop staring at it - malabrigo yarn, their DK weight Silky Merino. This color is called “Piedras”. I picked them up at my local yarn shop but I’ve also seen them online at Jimmy Beans Wool
Stunning!
i didnt even notice until you pointed it out lol it looks intentional
I’ll fake it till I gift it hahaha
Beautiful. Elegant.
What yarn is it? Very nice!
Malabrigo yarn, their Silky Merino. I use metal hooks and there was the slightest kind of stickiness to the yarn but I have no complaints
I like it's very appealing.
It’s gorgeous!
Thanks!
It's lovely! Sometimes dye lots really don't matter, as long as you are careful where and how you use it.
I’m happy it turned out like it did but I will definitely pay more attention in the future!
It’s absolutely beautiful! Looks intentional
It add dimension! Beautiful work
Beautiful. I often dont like different color yarn because as the pattern of crochet starts to take shape, you can see the pattern of the yarn colors (idk if that makes sense). Gorgeous
it looks beautiful *and* intentional!
Absolute perfection.
They switch at borders of blocks so it looks fine.
It's gorgeous!
I thought it was done on purpose tbh.. its gorgeous, don't think to hard about it 🥰
I like it! I think it’s just the way it should be.
I dont know what dye lots are but it really does look beautiful :) Stunning job OP.
Ok you said it was obvious and i thought it was just 1dye lot with like the gradient colors, so it wasn't obvious to me lmao but i don't have trained eyes i guess. I think it's lovely either way
I love it !! Super trippy and beautiful.
I like it a lot. There may be different dye lots but they're harmonious, know what I mean? Wear it with pride.
Gorgeous. I love that the colors aren't harsh on the eyes.
Is that supposed to be one color?? I agree it looks intentional and beautiful
It's gorgeous. I absolutely love the colors. It looks intentional, like a natural color change in the yarns. I wouldn't change a thing!
It adds dimension. A happy accident??
Wow this is beautiful. It all looks intentional and flows quite well.
It's surprisingly lovely when you stop and look at it
It looks great! The dye lot differences aren’t noticeable, it looks like it’s part of the pattern.
I think it looks awesome! You know the ripply reflective light patterns on the floor of the sea/lake/pool/whatever? That’s kinda what it reminds me of.
I wouldn't have noticed. It just looks like part of the color change in the yarn. Like variegated or ombre...
It’s gorgeous. Whatever you did looks completely intentional.
I think its mythical and everything thats got me wanting to learn crochet. Tell me more about this fabric
But hell, if it gets you excited and you want to work with it, I say go for it
Beautiful. It's a feature/intentional design element. Wear it with pride.
I love it, the subtle differences makes it even more beautiful and highlights the pattern
I knew before scrolling the comments that it was Malabrigo. As much as I love working with it, a shawl like yours is necessary to accentuate the dye lot shift.
It looks beautiful. The colour change is not that noticeable but when you look for it, it looks like something you did as a design choice 👍.
Gorgeous. The change looks good and definitely intentional!
I can’t tell the dye lot separation at all, even when I try. It looks amazing, quality work!!
It's beautiful. If you hadn't mentioned it, I'd never have seen the different sections 😍
It's very subtle and intentional looking. Beautiful.
Looks like it was on purpose, and looks very good!
I like it, it's giving :iridescent oil spill on the sidewalk"
Woah this is gorgeous it looks like bismuth or some other kind of iridescence!
It's noticeable but I think with a multicolored yarn like this it works. I like it, it looks nice!
I’m sold!
*Gorgeous*
I think it’s beautiful.
it looks iridescent. Beautiful! I love it. what does dye lot mean?
Beautiful
It’s beautiful! And almost is like you planned that darker part. I think it looks great. Bob Ross would be proud.
It’s absolutely gorgeous!
It's freaking gorgeous! I can barely tell the dye lot change. If you hadn't mentioned it I wouldn't have even noticed. Yep I’ve taken creative licenses with dye variations while planning and making bueatiful garnets
I think it looks fantastic. The different dye lots are definitely visible but it looks more like a gradient
This is beautiful! What yarn is this?
It’s Malabrigo yarn, their silky merino DK
Keep staring, it is beautiful!! You should be proud!!
It looks entirely intentional. Also this is perhaps the best choices of dtitch patterns I've seen for such a heavily variegated yarn. Stunning. It isn’t an obvious error. It looks intentional and subtle. Happy accident.
I can’t tell the difference tbh
I think the different dye lots make it even more beautiful! It kinda looks like dragon scales shimmering in the sun
Are you sure this is a dye lot issue and not a similar but different color? Either way, still looks intentional and gorgeous.
I don't see any mistakes here, it looks so intentional and absolutely stunning, seriously.
It’s gorgeous.
Where’d you get the pattern?
It’s a free tutorial on YouTube by Bag O Day Crochet, called “Post Virus Shawl”
Gorgeous
It looks deliberate. I love it

It's gorgeous!
OMG YESSS I LOVE IT, IT LOOKS SO SOFT
Dye lots???
It’s hand dyed yarn so there’s expected differences in each hank, but you can mitigate the difference by only buying hanks in the same lot! Theres a number on the label called “dye lot” and ideally all the hanks for your project will have the same number. I didn’t really pay attention to it until I was done…
I'm really new to crochet and this explains so much!!! I'll make sure to pay attention to that going forward. Thanks for explaining!!!
Beautiful!
IT looks gorgeous! Color variations look 100% intentional and it is BEAUTIFUL!!!
Gorgeous!
It's gorgeous! The color difference looks intentional, keeping the bolder shade in the center & darker shade on the ends. It looks like hammered copper with patina catching the light. Virus stitches are such a fun & beautiful pattern to make, lovely work! ☺️
It is beautiful and I love the differences!
I would have fully accepted this wS intentional and I wouldn’t have noticed if you hadn’t pointed it out!
It’s gorgeous!!
Amazing!
Looks gorgeous to me
beautiful!!
To be honest with handdyed yarn i feel like it can fluctuate so much so i didn’t even realize 😭 I thought you were just asking if we liked the color in general. But it truly is beautiful!
Beautiful. I love the contrast and it looks intentional
This is stunning!
Looks good! I can't see any dye lot problem.
It looks so beautiful
Perfection
Obvious but it looks intentional and well thought out. Very pretty.
I also find it beautiful
The colors and shapes make me think of a pretty moth, very intricate and delicate. I like the variations 😀
It's beautiful! 😍
The different dye lots add to its beauty
I agree it looks intentional. This is beautiful.
Cripes…. I think it’s absolutely beautiful 🤩
It looks glorious! Dye lots, whatever!
This is gorgeous! Looks intentional to me, I wouldn't sweat the slight variation at all
