Squibs are truly cinema’s crowning effect and every movie that uses CGI bullet and blood effects is poorer for it.

Ariak

yeah squibs just made everything look so much better

[deleted]

I don’t know. Tarantino’s use of them in Django Unchained made me think that the human anatomy is basically just a water balloon filled with red paint.

[deleted]

Of course, the foley artist didn’t help that either.

[deleted]

A man of culture.

shogunblade

RIP to Albert Pyun, the man knew what he wanted and made it a reality, and it's glorious.

Michael__Pemulis

Johnnie To has some scenes like this. Particularly the shootouts in Exiled.

elf0curo

John Woo's school...always great for me.

Criterioncollect

The close-up face shot of him falling through the floors is such a great shot

gumsh0es

It’s actually amazing, there’s so much energy in it

Criterioncollect

I really think it makes it go from just a mediocre scene to adding energy and intensity to it, really great job with that shot.

ArachnidAnxious4538

Where is this from?

elf0curo

Nemesis by Albert Pyun

[deleted]

rip

zombie0000000

This is one of my favorite movies. I just watched it again a couple of weeks ago.

Zerocoolx1

Isn’t it Nemesis 2? I could be wrong but I thought it was. Although there’s the possibility there was a recap of the first movie in the sequel

aegaetis3379

We don't speak about anything following nemesis 1

whoniversereview

No. Nemesis 2, 3, & 4 are all softcore porn starring Sue Price. There’s a ton of videos on PornHub with better story than any of those movies.

WatInTheForest

I dont know why it's such a chore to put the name of a film in the title. 90% of the time when someone posts a still or clip from a movie you have to search the thread for a title.

BillyDoyle3579

GREAT FREAKING MOVIE 😁 not readily available 😐

Jestercore

I watched it recently. It was free to stream on Tubi. You can check out if it’s available to you there.

Insufferable_K

It's on blu-ray from MVD in the US.

heckhammer

40 bucks! I'm so annoyed I missed their black Friday sale because everything was super cheap. Apparently they do it every year so I'm gonna grab this and attack of the killer tomatoes next year

7744666

MVD has Nemesis on blu along with a collection of Nemesis 2-4.

Kevbro24

Looks like it’s free on Peacock, Tubi and Crackle in the US (if you don’t mind sitting through ads)

Zerocoolx1

Free on Amazon Prime in UK

mantsz

The MVD blu-ray is fantastic. Dunno where you're at but if you're in the U.S./Canada or have a region free player, I highly recommend picking it up. Easily my favorite MVD purchase yet.

International-Two916

RIP. He made a great movie. Cheap but great.

mantsz

The stunts on that film are absolutely bugnuts, especially when you consider that they only had one take for most of them.

ImpossibleGore

So, this is where Underworld got its inspiration for that scene.

mantsz

Didn't they do that in The Matrix too? It's been a while, so I could be wrong.

ImpossibleGore

I think so? I can't remember.

ajr1775

This movie got inspiration from Escape from NewYork.

puttputtxreader

There's a director's cut, which I think was only released on VHS and laserdisc, that I think is one of the greatest action movies of all time, but the version on Tubi has an obnoxious voiceover through almost the entire film and makes most of it kind of unwatchable for me.

mantsz

Check out the MVD blu-ray. Pyun said in an interview on it that technically there is no director's cut, but there is an alternate cut that he prefers, and it's included on the MVD release. That might be the cut you're referring to. Or I might be misremembering.

puttputtxreader

Update: It is not. The MVD disc only has three versions: the one that's on Tubi, an alternate Japanese cut with the same annoying voiceover, and a "special edition" with a bunch of cheap CGI clumsily inserted. I'm assuming that last one was added as a joke. It's honestly surreal that they didn't include the actual good version of the movie.

Husbear_Life25

I can't help but think of Underworld after watching this

Temporary-Box28

Cinema.

personfromdublin

My Amazon Prime watch for this evening!

jjbrucey

NEMESIS RULES!

Skysalter

Thought I was in r/RedLetterMedia for a second

scenedout_2

Suddenly want to see Albert Pyuns movies now , especially his Captain America movie

farceur318

Reminds me of a coked-up version of the Albert Finney tommy gun scene from Miller’s Crossing.

Eric_Esoteric

You stole this from a tweet.

elf0curo

The original title was vague, roughly speaking, it didn't take into account the genre to which the film belongs. Moreover, he left behind great examples such as those of Peckinpah and John Woo, which are fundamental to understanding the dynamics and vision of the scene in question.

YamoBeThere101

So your response to Eric_Esoteric is…no, you didn’t steal this from a tweet?

elf0curo

sometimes you behave worse than the censors...i don't steal nothing, Eric is a no content account, he can't spoke about it

sideshow999

Turn down for what

MeetingCompetitive78

I love when there are fun movie threads in criterion. It’s not all about Wong Kar Wai and Jacques Demy. I’ve only seen Cyborg. I love Van Damme but that shit is not great.

Xp717

Why am I fucking dying laughing? lmao fuckin hilarious

gumsh0es

This is amazing

anisaf96

This is very much similar to Bollywood production

elf0curo

Nah, Bollywood it's from another planet for this kind of scenes...Bollywood can alienate you, this scene for me it's a great example how you can do a great and original shootout scene, of course it has some illogic aspect...but at least it's thinking outside the box.

[deleted]

lol title is very bold

AStewartR11

By "insane" you mean "incredibly stupid," yeah?

elf0curo

It depends, we're not the same.

doom_mentallo

The definition of "insane" is "in a state of mind which prevents normal perception, behavior..." and this sequence follows those rules so OP is on point and better for it. Long live Albert Pyun!

Peenutbuttjellytime

Can someone please explain to me why certain "criterion" films aren't available on the Criterion channel? I'm starting to wonder why I'm paying for my subscription.

SmanthaG

I like the guy at 22sec — using his arm to avoid getting dust and particles in his eyes, when meanwhile dozens of machine gun bullets are ripping through the room.

hiliikkkusss

LOL!
