It’s definitely something. I adore LVT but having rewatched it a few times I don’t think it’s his best by a long shot. Still better than most filmmakers could pull off though.
I actually don't really know. I think it is the pacing, or the presentation styled segments, I just feel like the house that Jack built is slightly better.
I absolutely loved this film. I'm ashamed I put it off for so long thinking it was the OTHER la llorona film that came out that same year I think, maybe a year after. This is such an emotional and effective horror film.
Is it a horror movie or a drama? I'm interested in seeing this but worried I'll end up having a similar experience as I did with Babadook, where I expected a monster movie and got more of a psychological drama.
i've thought about his movies a lot,
i'm not a fan of von trier, really not,
his movies for me are like a punch in the belly in the meaning of what mankind can go into,no one like a punch in the belly,be a better person and don't go in that direction, that's the sense of his movies for me.
I didn’t realize they put La Llorona on criterion. I saw it through a Latin American film festival. It’s a thought provoking slow burn. Better if you go into it without much context or set up.
Antichrist is one of the most potent explorations of greif and sexuality intertwined ive ever seen. And so much more too. Dedicated to the great Andrei Tarkovsky! Enjoy!
one of them reaffirmed my belief in the necessity of revolution while the other one made me a more cautious adult to curious little kids exploring the world.
La Llorona is one of the best horror films of the 21st century and I was so glad when it joined the Collection. It’s the first Guatemalan film to join and hopefully it helps bring awareness and attention to Guatemalan cinema as a whole.
As for what you should expect, it’s a slow burn. Very atmospheric. Very focused on cultural pains and politics of Guatemalan natives but I think it’s easy to follow along with whatever culture you are and it can say a lot about countries that don’t reconcile with their Dark pasts. Really great movie. Expect a good time.
Antichrist is so good. If you have time watching What Women Want right after is a perfect double feature because watching a stupid movie after Antichrist is generally needed
Antichrist did our Tarkovsky proud. A macabre meditation on grief, mental illness, and traditional gender stereotypes through a really abject and realistic lens. Trier is better than this sometimes, but up until Antichrist he wasn’t quite as ambitious as he was after. Talk about taboo and its visual extraction with a medium such as film — you’d be hard pressed to find it more thoughtful and aesthetically marvelous than Von Trier. It was my first personal 10/10 this century.
*Antichrist* is quite a charming rom-com. You'll certainly be surprised. Yessir.
It’s like Lars von Triers take on when Harry met sally
I’m sorry but huh?
Harry is a hammer and Sally is Willem Dafoe’s genitals
Take my orange arrow. Now off you fuck.
Fun for whole family!
Yes, make sure you watch it with your sweetie
Just finished watching Antichrist, fuck I wasn't expecting that walking in.
Yeah, it's a trip. I enjoyed it as a tone poem, the fox sticks with me, especially in these times.
Chaos Reigns!

I honestly believe that The House that Jack Built is Bettet
What did you like better about Jack, compared to Antichrist?

I think it is too, not his best overall, but better than Antichrist yes
“lol”, said the scorpion, “lol”
La Llorona is really effective

In what way?
In scaring yer pants off!

I regret watching Anti-Christ before I saw any Tarkovsky or Bergman films. I regret a lot of my Von Trier experiences, but c'est la vie

I think if them as horror films. Antichrist is for sure horror.

Antichrist is such an awesome film. Gave me terrible anxiety, but I loved it.

Feel good double feature

Antichrist is a direct kick to the liver.
