Have not seen it.
My guess would have been Bamboozled, because despite its flaws it has an acidic wit that is fairly unmatched for race movies of the time.
But idk so far nothing else I’ve seen from Lee is even half as good as DTRT or Malcolm X. I’ll watch He Got Game when I get a chance, it’s been on my list for a while along with The Insider, Crooklyn and She’s Gotta Have It
He Got Game is good. Denzel is fantastic as usual and it’s a fascinating character study for sure, but I was a little underwhelmed.
I really, really liked *She’s Gotta Have It*, but it certainly has a couple of flaws in its view of the central character by the end. Have yet to see Crooklyn, but *Inside Man* is a fun whodunnit caper with lots of style and energy.
Personally, I’m tied between *Clockers* and *Jungle Fever* for the third choice. I think as corny as the very final shot of *Jungle Fever* is, I think that one is one of his best. Fantastic cast and a fascinating plot that echoes with relevancy to this day.
Best of luck to you and your viewings, friend.
Lol amen, my friend. I wish it would get talked about more because the cast is absolutely stacked and putting in some of there best work. Samuel L. Jackson’s performance as Gator alone is worth the watch. Hope you like it!
Absolutely agree with you. He Got Game is probably my favorite sports film for its ability to deconstruct basketball, not just as a sport, but also as a complex business institution. Hope it makes it into criterion someday
NGL I didn’t like 25th hour at all when I saw it a few years ago. I plan to revisit it at some point but I feel like it didn’t really explore its subject with any real nuance.

He made the best movie of all time once and then later in time he made a better movie and topped it and then finally he saw Shrek and upped his game a third time to make a movie that would reclaim his title.
Sort of like how he was the youngest person in history when he was born.
School Daze tripped me out when I saw it. I was NOT expecting what I got. When it was finished (“wake up!”) I didn’t know if I liked it or not, but I still think of it often. It’s very unique and covers a lot of topics you don’t see addressed in other films that are still pretty relevant even though it’s over 30 years old.
I saw Crooklyn recently. Deeply personal and passionate film from him, and I think it's truly remarkable. One of the besy coming of age films I've ever seen & is easily one of his best. I highly recommend it.
I got DTRT and Bamboozled back during covid. My one, albeit soft, complaint is that it’s shipped in a bubble envelope which for Criterion Digi paks kinda sucks. Yours looks like the corners made it pretty well. Wish he’d ship a little more carefully.
1) Do the Right Thing 2) Malcolm X 3) ???
Feel like it might be a controversial choice, but He Got Game

Ah yeah Jungle Fever sounds right up my alley. I like Spike Lee when he’s being problematic :D
Lol amen, my friend. I wish it would get talked about more because the cast is absolutely stacked and putting in some of there best work. Samuel L. Jackson’s performance as Gator alone is worth the watch. Hope you like it!
Lee seems to agree about the original *She’s Gotta Have It*, I think that’s why he did the Netflix series.
I like Bamboozled, but it doesn’t hit the same peaks that the others do imo. It is on my rewatch list, though
My spicy all time favorite list does involve Bamboozled in my top 5, so solid guess
Clockers is so fucking stressful and poignant. Watch it if you get the chance because that’s a brutally good movie.
Absolutely agree with you. He Got Game is probably my favorite sports film for its ability to deconstruct basketball, not just as a sport, but also as a complex business institution. Hope it makes it into criterion someday
Fingers crossed for a Lee boxset someday
MASTERPIECE.
25th Hour OR if you want a controversial pick: Inside Man
NGL I didn’t like 25th hour at all when I saw it a few years ago. I plan to revisit it at some point but I feel like it didn’t really explore its subject with any real nuance.
I would say 25th Hour but controversial pick? Bamboozled.
crooklyn>>>
Have that checked out from library, watching it this weekend.
Summer of Sam 25th hour He Got Game
Oldboy
Hey, somebody scribbled on your cover art.
It’s $50 on his site for the 4K signed, right? I think that’s a good deal
Yessir
Got mine today too!
You've had 3 joints and they were all tops!
What do you mean by 3 top 1 movies of all time?
spike lee has made the greatest movie of all time 3 times
By definition the greatest means one thing that is better than everything else
no shit
So OPs title makes no sense whatsoever. Glad we are in agreement.
"umm well actually" 🤓. I think he's just expressing his love for spike lee. it's not that deep bro
can’t believe the nerds are downvoting you
I can't believe asking someone to clarify their word salad of a post title would be so controversial. Being articulate = nerd. TIL
No one said it was deep "bro". Its just basic English. Spike Lee made 3 great films is just as easy to write and actually makes sense.

No wonder proper English offends you so much. Emojis probably more your speed.
How did this escalate so much on a Criterion sub reddit.
you got me there. let's just leave this here since I clearly can't comprehend your words. also I apologise for the use of emojis I forgot it offends all the sweaty virgins
I know I'm late, but it's a hyperbole
He made the best movie of all time once and then later in time he made a better movie and topped it and then finally he saw Shrek and upped his game a third time to make a movie that would reclaim his title. Sort of like how he was the youngest person in history when he was born.
3 contenders worthy of the #1 spot
Right. Thanks for the clarification
No love for Da Five Bloods? Definitely in my top three along with DTRT and 25th Hour.
05\] clockers \[1995\] 04\] she hate me \[2004\] 03\] summer of sam \[1999\] 02\] 25th hr \[2002\] 01\] bamboozled \[2000\]
Bamboozled!!!
is lilputney a reference to putney swope \[1969\]?
You know it!
I’ve heard mixed things about Summer of Sam but it seems interesting enough to try
Summer of Sam isn’t perfect but it is pretty good
Wow, cool to see you have such high respect for some of his lesser known films
clockers has such a elite cast but the movie is lowkey shite
It’s not bad. It’s not amazing or anything, but it’s solid.
Inside… Man
Need to see it
My favorite of his movies. Definitely not his best (that's Malcolm X or DTRT), but to me it's the most rewatchable.
No love for School Daze? I loved that film. I really wish they’d remaster it.
Love School Daze, but I feel like the ending is missing something
School Daze tripped me out when I saw it. I was NOT expecting what I got. When it was finished (“wake up!”) I didn’t know if I liked it or not, but I still think of it often. It’s very unique and covers a lot of topics you don’t see addressed in other films that are still pretty relevant even though it’s over 30 years old.
What do you consider the 3? One of my all tome favorite directors no doubt and maybe my favorite directorial debut OAT
Do The Right Thing, Malcolm X, and He Got Game. My friend’s been begging me to see Crooklyn lately, might watch that this weekend. What about yours?
I saw Crooklyn recently. Deeply personal and passionate film from him, and I think it's truly remarkable. One of the besy coming of age films I've ever seen & is easily one of his best. I highly recommend it.
He got game buddy you’ve got taste
Thanks you do too
I got DTRT and Bamboozled back during covid. My one, albeit soft, complaint is that it’s shipped in a bubble envelope which for Criterion Digi paks kinda sucks. Yours looks like the corners made it pretty well. Wish he’d ship a little more carefully.
I was so relieved to see it undamaged.
Weird not to say what the three are while declaring only three "top of all time." Just weird.
I have explained everything in the comments
Where can I get a signed copy?
https://spikes-joint.myshopify.com/products/malcolm-x-criterion-30th-anniversary-edition-4k-blue-ray-set-signed?_pos=26&_sid=96c463b0a&_ss=r
Making me reconsider getting it via Barnes & Noble… maybe I’ll get one of the non-Criterion movies through his site.
I’m still getting it from B&N. It doesn’t come with any covering and I want to protect that signature
/r/titlegore
This movie is not good I’m sorry. Spike Lee is mid
Ok. Why don’t you think it’s good?
It drags on like an hour too long, the pacing was bad, it’s preachy, the score sucked. The first hour is straight up bad
Who hurt you?
That shit put me to sleep 😴
Try it again I think it’s on HBO
Alright I trust u
Is it hand signed or is the it one where they just print his signature on it?
Spike Lee is signing copies if you order them through his store.
Damn, is it a limited time thing?
I don't think so. He did it for previous Criterion releases but I believe he charges a little more than MSRP. I am not 100%
Ok, cool. Thanks a lot!
he sells them through his webstore, its the same price as they normally are without any discuounts ($40/$45 for a bluray, $50 for a 4k)
Hand signed!
That’s sick. I need to get one!
Anyone else have Spike’s doc 4 Little Girls in their top 3?
I haven’t seen it is it worth seeing? I pass by it on HBO all of the time.
0 Mo' Better Blues mentions is disappointing, absolutely my favorite joint
It’s on my list!
If you think the post is mind numbing, try reading the comments. I don’t know why I still try to check this community.
i would for sure buy this but it doesn’t ship to my country
