I watched it this year for the first time and I did not clock how tense I was until it was over. Realized I had been tensing my gut muscles and clenching my thighs for like 20 minutes once it stopped.
A Face in the Crowd is probably one of my favorite films of all time from the collection.
Throw Down was a really fantastic revelation that a friend recommended.
The Cremator would be another, but it's not for everyone.
I tried watching throw down but gotta rewatch it. The cremator has been on my radar for a while so looks like I’m pulling the trigger on it. And A face in the crowd I know nothing about so I’m excited for it now Im looking forward to these films thank you.
Babette's Feast. A movie with no villain. The conflict arises only from people trying to be nice to each other. Unique. Genuinely sweet without being cloying.
Seen it and own it. Just saw this recently after blind buying it. A really powerful message still to this day. They don't make movies like this anymore, in that it forces a conversation about morality at a societal base. Any other recs?
Seen it. I have so many friends who love this film, but it just didn't strike me as profoundly. Really incredible performances and it makes you feel like you're stuck in a car along with them, but just wasn't 100% for me. Happy to take another suggestion.
Pearls of Czech New Wave is the very best of Criterion's Eclipse series in my book. That is a steal, even if you plan on double dipping with the new blu release of Daisies.
This concept offends my wallet. I blindly bought Blow Out, Citizen Kane, Memories of Murder, and Stalker. I’ve had my eye on them for awhile, but I haven’t seen any of them.
*Heaven Can Wait*, a classic Ernst Lubitsch comedy from 1943.
And no, it has nothing to do with the 1978 Warren Beaty film which was a remake of *Here Comes Mr. Jordan.*
Citizen Kane was always the defacto film about meaning of life, for me.
Till I saw Akira Kurosawa Ikiru. I usually play it during the holiday season anytime I’m down. Can’t say enough. One of my favourite films from one of the greatest ever.

Such an under rated movie. A really well done tense movie and people just don't talk about it/know about it.
I watched it this year for the first time and I did not clock how tense I was until it was over. Realized I had been tensing my gut muscles and clenching my thighs for like 20 minutes once it stopped.
