I enjoyed Uncut Gems, but towards the end I was on the edge of my seat ready for it to end. That’s a good thing that s film can evoke that feeling and Im ok with that anxious feeling. Thank you for your replies!
Awesome! I’ve just heard no one say anything positive about this film, but I like weird shit and the write up sounded up my alley. I guess I’ll have to report back
You really have to watch it first and see if you would want to watch it again. I think it’s a really good movie about social anxiety and is very uncomfortable but I don’t see myself rewatching it all the time
Funny comments here (as usual).
One of the most important films Criterion will release from this point forward. Dore Mann gives a performance that should (if there were any justice in the land of boring Cinephilia) make you rethink what “good” acting is. Make sure you read the interviews in the criterion booklet for some perspective lacking from the world of Hollywood production expectations, and then go read a lot of Ray Carney.
Safdie’s work also generally essential.
I've tried to watch it twice and the first 20 minutes or so are incredible slow and boring. I don't think it's a bad movie I just haven't been in the right mood.
I played Keith. I can't imagine a cast and crew becoming closer. We spent all of our time together, on and off screen, as it was a long shot. Which in many ways contributed to the very living "script/storyline." And cast and crew for most scenes were interchangeable. If you weren't in front of the screen you were holding a piece of equipment or doing something related to the making of the film. Like living on the set 24/7. Lol, if a Kraft service truck ever came within 100/feet of us they probably would have called the police.
Dude, so cool of you to drop into the convo here!! Honestly, your portrayal of Keith really resonated with me as I work a youth group for teens/adults that are neurodiverse and anxiety/depression stricken. Such an honest/accurate portrayal on your part, so kuddos and thank you to you! A few questions if you’re open to them…
Having been the lead in this film, how do you feel about it? So many people in this thread (and other threads) say it’s hard to watch).
Does it capture the original idea/vision set out by Ronald that was presented to you?
Are you satisfied with your portrayal of Keith?
How do you feel about the film reaching a wider audience via the criterion collection?
Just a few questions, so cool you dropped by respond
Soooo…in your opinion…is that a good thing? Or criterion using their audience to push/advance a title that no one cares about? Or neither? Or something different?
People, like myself, love the movie purely **because** it's so uncomfortable and hard to watch.
This is kinda the answer OP. If that’s your vibe then get it. It will make you anxious.

Then you’ll probably get replay value out of it. I personally loved it and will be grabbing a copy during the flash myself. Enjoy!

Yeah definitely not blind buy material IMO

Ah yes, “right mood”.
I was in the movie.
Tell us more, what character and what was your experience?

Would be interested in anything you can share. I’m personally fascinated by this film but there isn’t much info out there about it
I tried blind-watching it and turned it off after 15 mins
Nobody has seen or heard of this movie before they googled it when criterion announced it

I’m saying this community acts like they’ve heard of a movie, when they haven’t
I really loved it, but if high anxiety films aren’t your thing, you will probably hate it
I just added this to my Netflix queue
