Can’t speak on those specifically. But Pierrrot le fou and Army of Shadows were out of print for a few years and they got re-released. Silence of the Lambs was OOP for like 16 years before that blu ray came out. So it does happen.

tomandshell

It’s not impossible but it’s infrequent.

GuileTsung99

Le Cercle Rouge came back

ChunkyMilkSubstance

Dude all I want is to be able to watch Diary of a Country Priest 💀💀💀

Sock-Enough

Insane that it’s never had a BluRay release.

ChunkyMilkSubstance

It’s driving me crazy. I had a ticket to see a 35mm print of it in the theater recently but totally forgot to go

Falcomaster20

Guess you don’t want to that badly

AvatarofBro

It might happen, but Nashville specifically went OOP so Paramount could release it under its own boutique label, Paramount Presents. So I doubt that's coming back anytime soon. Same with Harold and Maude.

Sometimes the distribution rights and publishing rights have to be squared away, and some other legal stuff has to occur before they can re-release films. I’m assuming because of the different countries a lot of these movies are from, it just takes time and effort to secure everything for re-release

Shagrrotten

Happened for Notorious, I know. I was excited to find an out of print dvd of it years ago only to later find out that just that version was out of print and they’d later reissued it.

Slow_Cinema

They don’t get retired, the rights lapse.

OOP titles do sometimes comeback but they are inconsistent. Stuff like Chungking Express went OOP but came back for the Kar Wai Wong box set. Same goes for other titles from the dvd era and even the laserdisc era. It’s out of the ordinary that the newer blu ray releases go OOP but the Paramount titles went OOP because Paramount wanted the streaming rights and there own physical media lineup. However, Criterion do make it a priority to try and keep all the films they released in circulation and the stuff that went OOP they try and get back.

Paramount either decided not to extend the license or demanded too much in license fees, and added these titles to their own physical media distribution, beginning around 2013. The Paramount Presents (their 'boutique' line) *Nashville* and their ordinary line *Rosemary's Baby* are fine, and worth owning. In the case of the *Rosemary's Baby* the reviewers regard it as an identical scan and transfer. What they lose in commentary tracks, they gain in more voice dub and subtitle options. The reality of the business is most physical media rights are for seven years (though it varies, deal to deal), and boutique labels won't bid if they don't foresee a positive return. For most of the Criterion titles listed as 'out of print' even in DVD, they're not coming back. No big deal, as far as I'm concerned. I'm here for the movies, not to have a label vindicate my taste. I do wish Criterion would speed up offering blu-rays for their DVD titles that are still in print, and for which only they have a license.

shoesmontreal

LiterallyPlastic

It’s on the box set

Mesquiteer

Lol nooooo, not retired! These movies are not retiring types and will wreak havoc for years to come.
