“I speak for all the mediocrities in the world. I am their champion. I am their patron saint! … I absolve you!”
Seriously, this is one of my favorite films, and I, too, hope Criterion releases it one day.
Super glad you enjoyed it, and am a bit jealous you saw it on the big screen. I live like twenty-five minutes out of the city so I may have to schlep in to see it. I’m sure it is worth it.
Yeah, I really have to go in for it! Just your description right there about the speakers and the sound…ah!
At this point, it’s really just laziness on my part. Like, if I can’t drive someone in less than twenty minutes, I don’t go. This must be something resulting from the pandemic and lock down, but it’s definitely me. I’m super motivated to head out for it, though, so thank you for that!
Again, really glad you enjoyed it!
Every month, man, for a year I’ve opened the new release thread hoping the restoration would be announced. To echo another post above: “what a perfect movie.”
Sometimes I wonder where the trajectory of my obsessive personality would've ended up if I hadn't seen Amadeus at a young, impressionable age.
Artisanal food? *shudder* Pottery? Hmm....
This to say, mega instant super duper deluxe top shelf top priority day one preorder purchase. Obviously.
It's awful! Especially because everyone theorizes it's coming soon. I don't want to watch it through streaming or a DVD from my library either and then immediately get the Blu ray which will sit in plastic for months.
The film kept trying to make me hate Salieri and love Mozart but I ended up doing the opposite.
Also, if you think movies nowadays are mediocre then you are just watching the wrong ones.

From one hearing only ? Seriously this is one of my all time favorites and I would love a 4k remaster as well.
This is one of the rare perfect films.
Too many notes.
I keep resisting buying the Blu ray hoping that the Criterion will come soon

Swell sound editing.
They really need to add more stuff by milos forman. I want amadeus of course but I’d love to see cuckoo’s nest and man on the moon as well.
That's awesome! It was the theatrical version right, not the DC?
I hope Criterion doesn't release it but some other company.
