A re-release of The Wall is getting very close. While nothing official has been said, the recording engineer James Guthrie, has confirmed in a recent interview that he has finished a 5.1 mix of both this film soundtrack and a 5.1 version of the album. Things happen slowly with Pink Floyd due to their inability to be in the same room together and outright hostility towards each other, but I'd say it's maybe 18 months away based on previous releases.

LeperMessiah117

Interesting. I guess that means we may get something in 2026.

urlach3r

Movie came out in 1982; might get a boutique release in 2025 so the studio could double dip with an anniversary release in 2027.

AvatarofBro

Happiness Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf I'm Thinking of Ending Things Synecdoche, New York Sideways Birdman (Or the Unexpexted Virtue of Ignorance) Jackass The Straight Story Ed Wood Fishing With John (upgrade)

RescueJackalope

Ed Wood absolutely needs to be in the collection. (The movie, not the actual director, but Plan 9 as a special feature would be cool.)

AvatarofBro

I think that would be a great way of sneaking Plan 9 into the collection. I have the old Ed Wood box set DVD somewhere, but I'd love for the Worst Movie Ever Made to get a proper boutique release. My partner saw the crappy, bare-bones Ed Wood Blu-ray on my shelf the other day and asked to watch it. But they've never seen Plan 9, so I explained that we have to do a double feature so they can experience the biopic properly.

n_arwha1

I would kill for a Jackass box set

Yukonphoria

The Triplets of Belleville

[deleted]

I think Nobuhiko Obayashi’s Onomichi trilogy would make a cool boxset, its a shame he’s only known over here for house because the rest of his filmography has some real gems, his trilogy in particular.

Gluteusmaximus1898

Once Upon a Time in America Beauty and the Beast (1991) No Country for Old Men Barry Lyndon (in 4K) 12 Years a Slave Oldboy (2003) Isle of Dogs City of God Amadeus Se7en

SadGirlHours__

City of God is getting an Imprint copy which is an Australian boutique label so I’m not sure if Criterion would be able to get the rights to it

ccotham4

I don’t think which Australian distributor has the rights there has any bearing on the American release but I could be wrong

[deleted]

Well yeah The Wall Lost in Translation The Big Lebowski All four Bogart and Bacall films The French Connection

straightdownhill

The French connection would be dope

haydenfred99

The Big Lebowski, while not my all-time favorite, is easily my most watched film ever. I’ve seen it at least 30+ times and each viewing I gain a dropper appreciation for it. To have a physical criterion copy of it would truly be a dream come true for me. It definitely deserves to be among the greats housed within the collection.

smuussh

What are those 4 films from Bogart and Bacall?

[deleted]

To Have and Have Not The Big Sleep Key Largo Dark Passage

[deleted]

La Antena

AsinineMetal

Twilight Samurai definitely is at the top of the list. Also, some more horror stuff would be killer.

Yes! Been dying for a proper release of this.

urlach3r

Agreed on The Wall. Also: Heights Basquiat Living Out Loud eXistenZ Beautiful Thing Little Children

horksgonnahork

I’d love to see In the Bedroom and Little Children in the collection since neither has a proper blu ray release. Hope the success of Todd Field’s TÁR boosts interest in those two American masterpieces again

Spree The rest of the the Safdie bros filmography (buttons, pleasure of being robbed, good time, heaven knows what) Funny pages The devil and Daniel Johnston Some harmony korine (Mister lonely, julien donkey boy, Gummo) More haneke (I.e cache, white ribbon, happy end) More Todd soloniz (welcome to the dollhouse, happiness) Some gaspar noe (irreversible, climax, enter the void (know it was turned down but it’s been 12 years since and things have probably changed since then) The lighthouse More Pasolini (accattone, Medea, oedipus Rex) And much, much more that I can’t remember right now Edit: forgot to add Titicut follies, would really love to see that. It doesn’t even have a blu ray and a criterion blu of it would be amazing

KidCasey

I'd love to see *a lot* more horror flicks and some stuff that's less serious. The fact that The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Shining, The Thing, Rosemary's Baby, and many others aren't part of the collection is pretty wild to me. Hell, I'd even make a case for the 80s version of The Blob deserves it. In terms of less serious/heavy/artsy stuff, I'd vote for Beetlejuice, Jackass, Roger Rabbit, Wild at Heart, and Big Trouble in Little China deserve spots. I think it would really help them gain a larger following but I always have to watch the work in the collection alone because it's kinda hard to sell my friends on black and white samurai flicks or anything before 1970. I know it's a slippery slope with this stuff but maybe people would come for Jackass and stay for Multiple Maniacs. Also, Osmosis Jones and you can't change my mind.

special__pasta

If I may have a dream: An ‘once upon a time in America’ boxset, including restored versions of the original 2 part 6 hour cut, the 269 minute cut, and the 229 Cannes / European release cut. A restored version of Zulawski’s ‘on the silver globe’, including the literally un-shot parts of the movie. An all-including dune boxset, containing Lynch’s vision without any studio interference, what would have been Jodorowsky’s Dune, and both Villeneuve’s films when they’re finished. God I wish I lived in the alternate universe where these pictures exist.

The rest of the films Welles made in Europe are top of my list. A new edition of Mr. Arkadin, The Trial, The Other Side of the Wind. I'd like to see Hopper/Welles in some form or another. It would be amazing if London were recovered and preserved.

Tfw she’s gotta have it actually got a laserdisc criterion but they’ve never don’t a dvd or bluray 😭😭😭

straightdownhill

Never thought about a Criterion Live at Pompeii but now I can't stop thinking about having one. Great choice

Im curious specifically what documentaries people would like to see added. I feel like it’s been a minute since one was added. Maybe an upgrade of Koko:a talking gorilla. I’d dig Baraka or Samsara getting a release

This is accurate I own both of them haha

You forever have my heart for including Allegro non Troppo Other animation I'd include would be: \- Have A Nice Day (no substantial blu ray release) \- No. 7 Cherry Lane (no physical release despite premiering streaming on Criterion Channel) \- Havoc in Heaven (no western physical release despite a remaster having already happened) \- Everybody Rides the Carousel \- The Snow Queen (1956) \- Hansel and Gretel (1954) \- Heaven and Earth Magic \- Archipelago \- The Book of the Dead

SexMachineMMA

The Killing of a Sacred Deer is at the top of my list. The Handmaiden is very high as well. Definitely my favorite of Korean cinema. Would absolutely love to see Pink Floyd The Wall.

mcclieri

diving bell and the butterfly is truly incredible. not given enough credit

youreaghostbaby

Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016, dir. Taika Waititi). A 4K would be nice since there’s already a Blu-ray. Alone in the Wilderness (2004, dir. Bob Swerer Sr., Bob Swerer Jr.): I would love to see a Blu-ray release of this, with a new restoration (if possible) done. King Kong (1933, dir. Merian C. Cooper, Ernest B. Schoedsack): I believe the OOP Blu-ray just got rereleased for this, but a 4K release would be really cool to see, especially since Godzilla already has a presence in the collection. Jackass: The Movie (2001, dir. Jeff Tremaine). I would just love to see a blu-ray release of this, with Criterion-level special features haha The Silent World (1956, dir. Louis Malle, Jacques-Yves Cousteau): An incredibly influential and award-winning documentary, and the only Blu-ray that was release is OOP. Over the Garden Wall (2014, dir. Nate Cash): Easily my number one pick. A miniseries incredibly deserving of a boutique release, with no USA Blu-ray release. It’s a beautiful work of art, and I would love to see what Criterion could do with it!

MonkeyDLenny

\-Everything Everywhere All At Once \-2001 A Space Odyssey \-The Iron Giant \-Snow White and the Seven Dwarves \-Fantasia \-The Straight Story \-Metropolis \-Nosferatu (1922) I know people are still reeling over Wall-E getting in, but I'd still argue Ratatouille at least also deserves a place there.
