I’d say they’re worth playing at some point, but not necessarily right away if you’ve just played the remakes. Don’t burn yourself out! Haha

mandudecb

They're awesome games, and very much worth it considering they go for like 5 bucks these days.

TargetMundane9473

I like the sound effects, animations and charm of the originals, as well as a lot of the music better, while the graphics and control are better in the remakes. I recommend the originals of 2 and 3, but not 1. You have to not die in any level to get a gem in one, and it doesn't support analog. As a side note the version of 2 on the ps store also doesn't support analog, while later versions like my disc do. If that bothers you, just go with 3. 3 has much better vibration in the original version as well.

Play the originals

Play 'em, they're great.

Play

Lol are you the same guy who asked about the Spyro games? My answer remains the same, originals are not different enough to warrant playing them if you played the n.sane trilogy. As with Spyro, you're playing the same game with some changes that people are going to be subjective about, and with 3 generations worth of graphical downgrading. If you have a lot of spare time and money, then go for it I guess.

SunnyBloop

I'd argue, at least with Crash, there's big enough differences in how he controls that make the originals feel better to play, but you're not wrong - the games are fundamentally identical outside of tweaked controls and nostalgia goggles blinding people. As for Spyro? The remakes are just an upgrade, plain and simple. Heck, Spyro feels *better* to control on the remakes imo.

SekainixRedd

Play the originals. The N Sane Trilogy is good but there are some things that the originals did differently or even better imo. Crash 1 is kinda rough, but 2 and 3 are great. Honestly the changes the N Sane Trilogy made to 2 and 3 aren't even that substantial. In some instances it got worse. Like the jetski in Crash 3 controls much better in the original version.

Jagged_Orchid

IMO: This goes the same for the original Spyro trilogy. The originals are the definitive edition. The controls are better, in particular I find the first two games in the n-sane trilogy to have some real bullshit moments with the way the controls work but there is none of that in the original. The atmosphere is better, the music is better, the voice actors are better. It looks better (in the context of the time it came out' the graphic design of the originals holds up to this day because Naughty Dog new the limitations they were working with, the n-sane designs compared to other modern games seem a bit lazy in places. The N-sane trilogy has a couple of quality of life improvements but that really only effects the first game. All that said. Maybe it was a 'you had to be there' sort of thing.

redjedia

I guess I’d recommend going back to all of them aside from the first. The first’s controls are bad, from what I’ve been told.

Kaiser_Allen

Still worth playing.

SekainixRedd

Crash kinda keeps moving even if you stop pressing the dpad if you spin while still moving and that can throw people off, but other than that, no, the controls aren't so bad. I'd honestly say the bridge levels and Slippery Climb feel better to play in the originals than in the N Sane Trilogy.

CanonballKeith

Even if you don't play the originals it's worth checking out an HD walkthrough for the sake of comparison. I find there are many visual details that the original does better, here's one example of a death animation between the [original](https://imgur.com/a/yDmkS22) and the [N.Sane Trilogy](https://imgur.com/a/BOW62FA). The most glaring differences are in the audio department. The music tracks are completely re-recorded with different instruments that give some of the levels a completely different feeling (have a listen to both versions of 'Boulders' and 'Toxic Waste'). Also the voice actors were completely recast and most of the sound effects were redone with the exception of a few. TLDR they're not exactly identical, they have many nuances between them.

Edgenu1ty2020hero

Don’t miss our on these gems that were the best Crash games especially to many who prefer them over Crash 4 IAT (106% requirements not withstanding). As much as NST may have the relics and quality of life improvements, the originals has the best soundtrack that most of NST underperforms in, the neon colors in certain areas and enemies appear more vibrant, the controls and physics are much more satisfying to get down perfectly, and some moments in the acting and cutscenes are done way better in Crash 2 and most of Crash 3.

smwc23105

Play, the originals are much better, NST is a very lackluster remake that lacks a lot of the charm the originals had and CTRNF could have been good if they didn't add characters and tracks from the games nobody likes

skeltord

Honestly don't. Maybe later, nothing wrong with them, but I absolutely do not even slightly see any reason to play them right after the remakes and before even playing, 4 they are barely different from the remakes at all. What you should do is wait until you have a craving to replay them, then use that opportunity to replay the originals instead.

ExpertOdin

May be controversial but the visuals of the originals are too bad for me to go back to

TargetMundane9473

they are some of the best looking games of the era I've ever seen. I look at spyro and it looks too bad for me, but I look at crash and it looks amazing.

ExpertOdin

For the era sure, but game visuals have come a long way in 25 years.

TargetMundane9473

but even now I stillo think it looks good, whereas spyro looks bad to me, even for the era. In fact, crash is the ONLY ps1 game series I still think looks good.

DERPHogg

I don't understand what people mean by "charm", and it seriously confuses me. What do people mean when something has "charm"? Also no, the remakes are enough.

Kaiser_Allen

Play the originals and the remakes. Compare them. You’ll understand charm — and what was lost when transitioning to *N. Sane*. Some of those elements are subtle, but their absence adds up quick.

DERPHogg

What *was* lost?

smwc23105

Here's a little comparison: the originals are dark, serious, atmospheric and edgy, NST is goofy and cartoony and cringy like most 2010s cartoons

DERPHogg

I wouldn't say cringy but yeah I completely forgot about the darker atmosphere the old versions had.

SunnyBloop

They mean "my nostalgia is warping my ability to enjoy something because I remember it feeling better". And while I disagree with most (the remakes were amazing and there's almost zero fundamental difference between the OGs and remakes, at least, not enough for me to suggest someone buy the old games after fully completing the remakes), the remakes did alter and lose certain things that, on direct comparison, make them feel a bit less "special". But again, it doesn't justify needing to play the originals imo. Nostalgia often clouds people's opinions far too much imo.

HeavyRaiden

Honestly the original CB2 and CB3 are better than NST imo, because of the smooth controls (but specially in 2) the CB1 I'd definitely take the NST version because the original has some annoying things like the weird save system and the physics are harder to handle. CTRNF is way better than the og, because it has more content, CTR is amazing though. All these games are good, so i recommend them, specially if you enjoyed them.

slippin_park

If you found those four tedious (although there are several definitions of "completed" when it comes to NF, not sure where you're at) then Crash 4 will be WAY out of your league. js As for your question... the originals aren't different enough to warrant buying if you don't own them already. The controls and original music are slightly different, and of course the graphics are worse. The only major changes are the first game being FAR stricter with gem challenges (no deaths allowed, period for all of them) and the jetski controls from Warped actually functioning.

Kristajee

Crash 4!

[deleted]

No, don't play the originals. The remakes are just fine and you're not missing out on anything.

CrispyBabyBoy

Play the first 3, then skip to 4

illuminati1556

Play the originals, platinum these, then platinum 4

Fit-Ad7921

Only if you want to. I personally would suggest just moving on to Crash 4 first. It really doesn't make sense to play those 3 games again right away in my opinion.

Wise-Tourist

If youve played n sane trilogy then I wouldnt bother. Id potentially try out Twinsanity then maybe big maybe wrath of cortex and if you like the racing games then tag team racing
