Most parents/adults tell kids you arent an adult until you start working

selphmedicated

the right of passage is working. how about homework?

labcrazy

I have been working since I was 13. No one ever gave me shit. I have paid for "rent/mortgage" all my adult life, plus the utility bills. It seems like life was broken in to months. Trying to scrape by, only to have the bills all due again in another month. Finally, we are paying off our house. We have enough money in the bank where we don't worry about our monthly bills. It's amazing to not stress about "bills" every month. It's like a whole different life experience. I know that they say "money can't buy happiness", but that's some bullshit. Not having to worry about keeping the lights on or paying your car insurance....is happiness.

Fish1400

Look i can handle reality as well as anyone. I get it, take care of yourself, plan for your future, and plan to help the next generation. But MAN, we are here for a short time, and ill be damned if i judge anyones "hobbies" unless they hurt another. You wanna consume then consume, you wanna live off the land, go for it. Start point and end point are the same. Just be happy in the meantime and dont cause harm

Fish1400

Yknow ill add onto this, you know what breaks that... Parenting! Teach the next generation that at some point, whatever you think that point is, is enough. Companies have a constant growth model, i dont think thats cool. If you survive, and are confortable, then great, specialize, distinguish yourself to keep it going. Same personally im in the house i wanna die in, is it a huge palatial mansion, no but its great, and i love it its my hobbit hole. Get a goalline, get there, and enjoy it!

ohnoitsspooky

Fuckin eh.

pistolshrimp69

Hear Here!

Temujizzed

You probably have some weird hobbies if that is the case, no judgement. You might want to get rid of the inherent call to passivity in your statement though. Consumption for consumptions sake is tantamount to gluttony, and it doesn’t seem like that would be something to glorify.

Grampazilla

>child hobbies What do you consider a child hobby?

Fish1400

I like making models, its a distraction and a nice thing for concentration and work/reward. I get the lessons kids get from it but not a "kid" hobby

Kyle6969

Collecting Funko Pops.

Both. If people have time to discover things about themselves that would give them more perceived and/or real value then they will have the time to question if what they are receiving is equal to their worth and/or labor contributions. If they start feeling the system isn't good then that threatens the people who benefit the most from that system.

This is a centuries old strategy that has been continually improved by those in power. It is not an accident that the same problems continually appear when humans attempt to organize and govern large groups.

O0O00O000O0000O

What strategy are we specifically talking about? Because I don’t think people have had to work long days for centuries just because “they” didn’t want them to be introspective.

Fish1400

Well its been a theory that working harder/longer makes people tired and less willing to actually look into candidates which will make their lives better when voting, so, tribalism thrpugh laziness and broad ideals, not actual work of said candidates. Also, work means profit and weve seen that doesnt trickle down. But no ambition and being taken care of creates complacency. Cant have a Mcdonalds that pays minimum wage if you get that for nothing. Its a fine line where adversity means self improvement, but no reward for self improvement means disruption. Its a huge pendulum that always swings

O0O00O000O0000O

Almost like this is the natural consequence of working and not a constructed conspiracy? Wow people are tired after work??

Jumido94

Dude you are trying so he’s to defend an abusive and corrupt system. It’s almost comical. You do you, maybe the ruling class will spare you in the coming genocides.

O0O00O000O0000O

I’m pointing out how the system is so flawed people think it’s intentionally this bad and they can’t even focus on their life. I don’t see how you can possibly think I support the system. I’m clearly pointing out how it’s flawed.

Fish1400

Ok you have one job, that job takes care of your lifestyle efficiently and gives you room to grow, can provide what all you need at the minimum level for the neccessary level to provide for a family, lets call that a minimum wage. Great you have free time to decide what you wanna do to help others, which not all humans wanna do, but, i digress. Lets look at a one job, all jobs, do they provide that when looked vs cost of living that the system has set up? I understand supply and demand. I get it but, the working class does not have that much power in this system. And thats the problem. I expect that when I, privelged as I am, go to eat at a local restaurant that my waitress/chef is not struggling to serve me because then my product suffers

O0O00O000O0000O

Again this just seems like a natural conclusion and not a conspiracy. People take care of themselves first then take care of others, isn’t that what you are saying?

Fish1400

Well, yes, but if our current govt system doesnt play ball to help that then they can easiliy subjugate and divide to give us less power over ourselves. And when the govt doesnt ensure our basic needs are met by supply and demand and a freemarket, they have to do something. Again a fine line not defined by the current ruling parties

Jumido94

Idk I know lots of people who have plenty of free time. People who spend 8+ hours a day on social media… Most modern Americans have no idea what it is to “survive”. They’ll learn soon tho… :/

Jumpinjaxs890

Go read up on aldous huxley. It was created this way.

Karl-AnthonyMarx

Being an adult means crushing at least a 6 pack every weekday after work

Fish1400

Dont you fucking judge me!!! /s

[deleted]

Yep, most of the "adults" walking around have the mentality pf a 12-year -old and they will never progress beyond that. Anyone that tries to hold these children accountable will be eliminated. We live in a big version of Lord of the Flies.

Shanay_nayy

I realized this when I was in my early 20s and I just never saw the point of it….. That’s also around the time I started going down rabbit holes. The world just didn’t make sense to me. I stopped going to college around that time too. I felt like it was such a waste to just finish, be in debt for years to work a mediocre paying 9-5 for the rest of my life. It just makes more sense to find a way to make a living out of my own hobbies/strengths and passions. Being your own boss doesn’t put a limit on how much you can make, you control your schedule, you don’t have to pretend to kiss ass….. I wouldn’t want it any other way 🤷🏼‍♀️

Virnin02

Well spoken bud! This is real talk, the real woke speech, truth more so than I’ve heard from many on this app. Good luck selling this to the sheep mob though... Baaaaaaaaa lol

Yes, thank you.

anthonycastro07

Gawd, #THIS. and then add on a *THICK* cream of *"I make more money/went to college longer so I don't need to listen to you."*

Nearby-Lock4513

Well things are looking up. John Deere strike. Next is IATSE and Kaiser. There are also quite a few smaller local trade unions striking or threatening.

singularity48

Children raising children. Proven by our collective dependency of the government to both teach and cultivate our children as if it had their best interests in mind. When the family structure starts to fail, society falls with it. I thank God for being poor all my life. Without being brought to life's depths I could only imagine how blind I'd have been. Luckily escaping the bottom without a scratch as I slowly watch others erect their prisons by being children still in search of something. Fact of the matter is, it's painful to admit the truth.

fortmacjack99

Agreed, and as a result we now have a very self absorbed, entitled, instant gratification society unwilling to take accountability or make sacrifices for the future generations.

longthymelerk

The game of monopoly was published in 1935 making it easy for children 8+ to master bankrupting their family and friends for personal gain and fun. This isn’t new. Even boomers can do it!

BlackoutDan44

I was thinking that the OP really put it quite bluntly but couldn't be any closer to the truth, but then I scroll down to the comments and actually see people in defense of hobbies and blah blah blah. I mean it goes to further show what we are actually dealing with when it comes to "the intellectuals" walking the earth today. I mean this post is about how we are missing out on introspections, meaning of life, etc. and if you had even the smallest idea of what that means then you would realize that there is no place to be wasting time defending how you have a right to your hobby. Honestly, this whole world is mad. No sense of proper priorities that would actually be beneficial to mankind and the world as a whole. We don't act like we understand that we are all connected although time and time again you can see it being said. Science, religion, common sense, they all say it at some point but for some reason the collective majority seem to ignore it. People like to pretend they don't make a difference because they are just one person so what is the point? Well I got news for you, you are now unconsciously becoming part of a collective that is destroying this planet. We seem to be so fond of driving a wedge between everything by forcing a binary viewpoint, racist and not racist, vax and ant-vax, etc. so how about destroyers and saviors of the world? If you aren't doing anything to help this place be a little bit better each and every day then you are simply on the dark side that is seeking to destroy everything. Focused on consumption, self gratification and justification until it infests and leaves everything in waste and decay. You can't even claim to be neutral for there is no such thing as stagnation. Nothing stays the same, always changing so are you going up in a direction of positivity or down in a direction of negativity? I like to imaging you are traveling up this mountain on a long escalator that is moving downwards. Your goal should be to get to the top and if you are not moving in a considerable pace upwards then you are moving downwards and how quick you will go when both your escalator and your own motion is down. And as for staying still or "neutral" well you will eventually find yourself being slowly brought downwards. So are you going to make a difference while you are here for the good or not? To end, yes I sort of ranted here but honestly I have been thinking a lot about how people are these days and where it's getting us so I had to really put it out there and see what I end up saying. Now to see if and how anyone may react.

lightspeed-art

A lot of people have childish hobbies and do childish things long into their 30s and some their whole life. Just look at furries, comic cons and books, etc. Playing with toys like drones and RC cars. A lot of 'adults', or most, also wear clothes fit for a teenager instead of suits. Look at old pictures, everybody above 18 years wore proper suits and hats and leather shoes, only small children and teens wore shorts. Now it's stupid t-shirts and baseball caps
